The 2024 Lexus TX Is The BIG 3-Row Luxury SUV We've All Been Asking For

Watch out Acura, Lexus is coming for your MDX with the new Lexus TX 350, TX 500h and TX 550h+. Not only is the Lexus TX likely to deliver a whopping 10 inches more legroom than the MDX, it'll have 30% more cargo room and an actual usable 3rd row for adults. Still not enough? It'll have an optional 366 horsepower hybrid system which should make it faster than an MDX to 60 or a 406 horsepower plug in hybrid with legendary Lexus reliability, 30 MPG combined and 33 miles of EV range. Better still? The hybrids don't change the interior space at all so it'll still be as solid choice for big families riding in style. The only bummer? No 8th seat. huanrong: Oh my goodness: O 203. 5 inches long. I'm actually surprised that Lexus decided to make the TX 2. 1 inches longer than the related Grand Highlander. This is approaching a full-size SUV in terms of size, (the height of the TX makes it a midsize. I am also surprised that they will indeed resurrect the 3. 5 naturally aspirated V6 for their TX 550 h+ plug-in hybrid, but it is not shocking as they did use a v6 hybrid for the previous generations of the RX. The TX 550 h+ will definitely go up against the Volvo XC90 recharge. Let's see how much the interior dimensions and the exterior dimensions either differ or stay the same compared to the GH.

They picked the worst color to debut this car in. Intead of making this car look cool, it gives it npc vibes.
Lexus is starting to fall into Acura/Honda problems. There's not enough differentiation between this and the Grand Highlander outside. The slightly different front grille and headlights, body color lower body and lexus light bar with the black wraparound d pillar are the main differentiators outside. The bumpers are slightly reworked ( smoothed over) but the general styling is too similar.
Interior is not much different. Materials quality looks much the same with a slightly different dashboard layout around the driver and reworked tiering of the dashboard to better integrate with the doors. All hardpoints are the same. The removable cup holders will get lost or broken quickly. There's more differentiation between the Palisade and Telluride.

Just as I suspected, no 8th seat, the interior doesn t look very luxurious vs an MDX or the gv80 or xc90 or aviator; it still has the same useless tech like the door handles, touchpad steering wheel, and the lack of physical controls; it still lacks luxury features like massaging seats, 4 zone climate control, heated 3rd row seats, wood trim.
As a bit surprised as i am of there being a v6 PHEV, Lexus really dropped the ball here just as I suspected
So yeah Im still mostly disappointed although that amount has gone to 80% which is still high. So it means I was still right that this would be a letdown
So go ahead everyone. Dazzle me with your pathetic pro Toyota comments. Because you will fail miserably at it

Yah I agree with the generic comment. The grill looks unfinished and that glass/piano black piece that s supposed to connect the 3rd row window glass to the rear glass looks out of place. The connecting piece looks like it doesn t flow well because the bottom of the 3rd row window curves up slightly. Actually the grill would ve worked better if they went full electric with the Tesla grill-less style. Those black horizontal slats don t have a defined surrounding to them. We are in a strange phase of vehicle design where everything is heading towards electrification, but in these abnormal stages like with that grill.

I don't hate that front but it does not look like it sits above the RX. The new headlights are scaled up from the LBX and the center intake/ACC radar are borrowed from 23 Prius. The lower grille looks very unthoughtful. They could have applied the same design from the RX or LM. It looks unfinished. You can tell a different design team worked on the TX. Did they not have Grasshopper license to work on the grille? I could be wrong but it seems the doors are identical to the ones from Grand Highlander? Some weird design decisions in this new TX.

Great first impressions presentation as usual Alex. I love the RX because of its size and sporty looking exterior so glad that Lexus decided to give us a 3 row separately, with this new TX.
I hear you mention the 2 position lumbar control often in your videos but I can tell ya, unless you are a person constantly gaining and losing weight etc, that is enough for most folks. I have had them for many years and rarely need to fidget with it once set. I have never heard anyone complain about not having enough lumbar motion.

Lexus is trying to foolish people and make easy money by giving you a tag of luxury brand without nothing luxurious from outlooking to the interior. When you hide the Lexus tag, it's nothing related to luxury at all. Not even compared to mdx or qx60, no better than Kia or Hyundai. Even there is someone only love Toyota, there is no reason to put the money on this instead of the grand Highlander, besides the name brand tag. The worst business is to treat your customers like a fool.

If this is a final production fact, lack of an available middle row bench with an 8 (or at least 7, which this example would be with a middle bench) seat configuration a miss. It does seem very odd that such a large(r) vehicle would be limited to six. If a middle bench is made available, it should be on all trims.

This is going to be perfect for my daily drives, I just could not allow myself to buy a Jeep Wagoneer for 80K everything Dodge Chrysler Jeep has made the last 20 years has been below board for longevity and dependability. I'm still driving my grandmother's 1998 ls400 which I got after she transitioned.

I think the luxury offerings being a bit ore smaller than their non luxury cousins is because it targets a different group. If you have wealth- you ain t buying a 3 row 8 passenger suv so your 6 six can destroy the second and tv it s row. You re driving the ugly cousin or the minivan.

I m a huge Lexus/Toyota fanboy, I ll quickly admit. However, I d be remiss to not point out that this car is clearly a rebadged Grand Highlander. Nothing wrong with the GH but if you re gonna charge more for a premium offering, it should at least come with more features.
reply

I d take an MDX over this rebadged Grand Highlander any day. If a cheaper Kia Telluride has a nicer interior and exterior than a Lexus, I ll take the Kia and sacrifice some reliability. As a side note, I find it interesting they re gonna offer a V6 with the TX550.

In automotive history, this has to be the era of bloat!
I will wait for the street legal version of the Stryker. Eight wheel drive, 4 wheel steer, 3ft ground clearance, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, chefs kitchen, open veranda pool skating rink. yada. yada

What I ve been waiting for. After two Suburbans since 1999 I d like something smaller that will still be a great ride for my tall golf foursome, the clubs and luggage for a long weekend golf trip. The empty nester Suburban.

What transmission does the PHEV use, the same planetary gear layout as their regular HSD 4-cylinder models? If so that would be a nice surprise. I never understood why the turbo-4 hybrid uses a 6-speed instead.

This F Sport trim doesn t look that good expensive enough. Here is hoping the luxury trim comes with that cognac leather with some chrome wheels to elevate the look a bit. This is one release I m keeping a close eye on

I put a deposit down for a Volvo EX90, but maybe this will be a good alternative. I'm not fully sold on the full electric, yet, and 30 mile electric only range will be just good enough to get me to my work and back.
reply

Soooooo cheap and ugly looking. Like an uglier Subaru with thin leather and hard plastic. How does anyone cross shop a Genesis and buys the Lexus? Let alone Mercedes and BMW. Ugh try harder Toyota Plus.
reply

Yep definitely getting grand highlander vibes, the styling is also more Toyota than Lexus. If you switched that front logo I d be hard pressed to tell if this was a 5th Gen re-design for a highlander
reply

I wish the Grand Highlander had this 400hp v6 plugin hybrid but i don't want a 6 seater the whole point of a vehicle this size is more seats so it looks like ill be keeping my Grand Highlander order.
