The 2024 Lexus GX Is Bigger, Bolder And 100% Turbocharged!

Lexus isn't abandoning traditional SUV shoppers like come luxury brands! In addition to the new super-sized TX which was launched today, Lexus has an all-new GX 550 for shoppers looking for up to 8, 000 pounds of towing capability, 33-inch off-road rubber, locking differentials and twin-turbo power! Think: I think the GX did not the engine options the TX did because they will have some problems moving the TX, with how it looks, so they have to compensate with the engine power and efficiency of the hybrids
The TX will be easy to sell, so they can dole out the better engine options, over time, and milk the redesign fro ever dollar its worth, and blow their load, at launch.

This will sell like crazy in the Gulf, Australia and other target markets. Hope it will give the Defender a run for its money in the US and Europe. I rarely get excited about new cars (I usually prefer classics or modern classics, but I would definitely buy this vehicle. It s like a Defender without the problems. If I had my druthers, I would have pushed out the wheels even further into the corners for a better stance and approach angles (see Bronco) and could have done without the kink in the rear window line. Simpler is always better. But this is quite good!

yes the front fascia is so much better, the old one gave me an eyesore. the overall design is spot-on, since they took the design language from the Land Rover Defender. I still do not understand how this is better or different from the Sequoia. since the Sequoia has a hybrid addition. I do not see how Lexus can justify adding 30K on to the Sequoia and rebrand it as the 550 Lexus. It should be the 340 Lexus with the smaller engine, signified the model number per usual. Plus the new Tacoma steals the show with its superior upgrade- TRD and Trailhunter.

The interior of the new GX does not look luxurious or well designed. It's like they could not decide between proceeding with a chunky off road look or going with a luxury look. Their merge of the two is not great. Looks cheap.
The exterior looks good. Although I prefer the look in the rear of the previous generation. The front end is better than the previous generation, but it does have a look that reminds me a lot of what is going on with mid-size trucks from a design perspective.

Former owner of LC prado. basically GX but overseas. same body, but toyota. I guess this is how new Land cruiser prado will also look. I tell you this is impressive. All the previous errors and drawbacks are fixed. Especially cargo space, in previous GX cargo space is just hilarious for the dimensions of the vehicle, also that side door drove me nuts. If the wind goes to side direction, the door will be hard to close.

Man I was waiting for this car to come out. Man this thing is weird looking OMO, too many odd dimensions, don t know if I m looking at a Bronco or a Range Rover Discovery. The front grill is butt ugly, and the hitch cover in the middle of the back fender is way too big, looks like at butt implant. Interior is not luxurious for a Lexus, looks like a Highlander. I think I ll go for the sequoia, way better looking

I like it I sort of. The front overhang seems excessive for a rear drive off roady setup. The interior and dash speaks more Toyota than Lexus but maybe the luxury oriented trims will take it up a notch or two. I'm trying to imagine where the wood trim would go, however. All in all, if they'd covered up the badging, I'd have assumed this was the new 4Runner.

Don't like the looks at all. It's not a surprise because all these cars are looking like nerdy outer space mobiles with smaller engines. It looks like a toyota as well with that cheap looking flat black fender moulding as well. Imagine if a nice Range Rover had those on it. I will keep my GX460 and Tahoe.
Please don't comment that it is a Toyota either.

A little sad to see the swinging rear door go away. Turns out, if you strap long things to the top (like my paddle board) a door the swings is amazing because you can access the rear with the board hanging over the back a little. A specific case know but something I love about my GX 470. That said, this looks awesome.

Less power than the LX means more reliable than the heavier LX! I wish they would stop with the trims. I want as luxury version with 2 diff locks! Well, I guess it is all about interior color options! Give me some nice brighter interior color options and i'm good!

I love it. I ve seen some complaints for the interior, but it s perfect for me. Digital gauge, large and well integrated infotainment, a real transmission lever, comfy looking seats. It s tall and boxy and looks better than a lot of swoopy and too stylish SUVS.

This looks really good. But those from corners are gonna have a bad time if you plan to take this out on the trails stock. Gotta raise it, beefy tires, and gotta eliminate some of that approach angle. Can t wait to see the new 2024 4Runner though!

Fantastic evolution! I could cross shop it with LR Defender, but GX looks more rugged and stylish in and out. Waiting to see how other trims turn out. Pricing will be a key factor. Thanks Alex for bringing this exclusive and detailed first look.

I know this may sound ridiculous but I wouldn't buy the car because they skimped on the 4-way lumbar. I mean seriously? Where is the panoramic roof? Why are they demoing a 2-row model? Yawn! Looks like a Hummer H2 that got a refresh.

I wonder how this compares with the GMC Yukon. I would assume this is smaller, but that is one of the only other SUVs that I can think of that would be body-on-frame, fairly luxurious, and off-road capable within 20, 000 of the new GX
reply

Looks like Lexus might finally be phasing out its God awful front grill. This new GX still has a bit of spindle grill, but at least it doesn't completely ruin the vehicle, as was the case for all other vehicles for last dozen years.

From the botched Sequoia designed cargo / tiny 3rd row to this big nosed / massive front over hang monstrosity. The Toyota / Lexus designers are failing. Let me guess, the Prius rear door handle person designed this!
reply

They did an outstanding job with this vehicle I'm absolutely looking forward to it.
Cross shopping? definitely a more affordable and sensible alternative to a G-wagon a Grand Cherokee or a Land Rover defender

reply

Toyota not giving this a power tailgate window like in the 4runner and last-gen Sequoia is a huge missed opportunity because the boxy upright rear profile looks like it could have easily accommodated that!
