you guys bashing the maxima and suggesting this gen might be the last one must have no experience with automotive journalism or knowledge. this is the 38th year of the maxima, and unlike the American models, Nissan doesnt change the model name for the same car every few years due to shame. the biggest players from the past (ie ford and GM) plan on not even making sedans anymore but focusing on SUVs from tiny ones to full-size. The maxima has had impressive model brand-loyalty numbers ever since they were the 2nd jap sedan( most reliable cars) with a v6 and manual tranny. the acura legend was far more yet a competitor. Nissan biggest mistake with the maxima: discontinuing the 6 speed manual during the oversized and overweight 04-08 model year due to low sales. I dont think Nissan will offer awd on the maxima for at least another few years if at all. but for you guys who dont know, the 1995 maxima and its 3. 0 VQ engine was one of the most reliable, rev-happy. and torquiest-engines-across-rpm-range (90% of peak at 2000rpm) except for BMW inline-6s (louder and not as efficient at highway speeds) and turbo-engines (with severe lag and poor reliability) when introduced, and still has a tried-and-true engine design today. the maxima has been the only Nissan model more upscale than the accord or camry to ever have better reliability ratings than them both (95-03, consumer reports. last gen of the maxima, how much do you wanna bet. I believe this model going to sell pretty well than the current one. The Maxima is an affordable car than its competitors think Impala buyers are going to purchase the Maxima as CT6 and Lacrosse buyers stick with Avalon being it runs in same price as those two Avalon is more a Lexus. I like the mid-cycle refresh model looks more sleek only thing wish the infotainment system got few updates and available in AWD with the new Altima has it why not Maxima this generation has been out for decades now. I think Nissan might work on the next generation Maxima soon they were working on this model since early part of the year can see the spy shots with it being a 2016 model came out in 2015 still looks great but this new one is better. Got a feeling this will be the replacement of Impala buyers looking for something affordable since GM and Ford discontinuing their vehicles even Taurus buyers too most might not care about the CVT. This is my favorite generation thought wouldnt like the mid-cycle refresh model but was I wrong looks more sleek than ever.

I purchased 2017 Maxima. The CVT doesnt allow the car expeditious takeoff. From light to light (city driving, The Impala can out run it. The Malibu can give Maxima a run light to light. Nissan is defeated horrifically considering Maxima price tag. Now, highway driving, Maxima is a beast. With speeds of 90 for 30 minutes, the cabinet remains quiet while holding speed. When I think of my car providing safety, I think of air bags, tires and quality of metal being used for body to list a few. If you need your car to adjust the windows while parking, proximity alert, etc, you shouldnt be driving car. As far as comparison, there is none in its class. However, if you must size up, the BMW 3 series, C 300 or Lexus ES would be your answers. What most people do not like about Maxima is the cost. For all the budget conscious, Altima or Camry is available. I previously owned 2011 and 2014 Maxima. I am considering defecting to a luxury model next time because of cost not dynamics of car.

I have owned 2017 Maxima SR for 2 years and sold it. In search of something new. And I have driven every car that competes with Maxima and above. Either they are over priced or less power or not good driving dynamics. And made a full circle and bought a 2019 Maxima SR yesterday. One thing to understand is Maxima SR and Platinum are totally different car in driving and feeling. So please take your time to drive both before you buy one. My favourite is SR as its a best car I drove since my Saab days. And as for the people who hate CVT and want Automatics I want to say I used to own Saabs and BMWs with Manual gearboxes and the truth is the way the traffic in most cities are I would no longer buy manual until unless I am taking my car to track. And compred to Automatics I can bet CVT in Maxima is way better than all the automatics in this range. Cheers

First of all Alex is A top notch auto reviewer. that said if I was looking for a luxury sedan I would get Audi A6 and as far as the fake exhaust tips they will stay a lot cleaner and yes the new Audi A6 starts at 58, 900 a used one is a lot less the body style has not changed so much. when you have something the people like dont mess with it like Nissan did someone went a little crazy with there pen designing this from the outside to the inside that has to be the ugliest steering wheel I have seen. i wouldnt be surprised if they discontinue the maxima.

Overall I like the Nissan brand because they have vehicles for literally every segment, but their styling is questionable. The Maxima would look much better if it didnt have that floating c-pillar styling. the generation before it looked better. And the fake exhaust vents are embarrassing. I have somebody near me who loves to just go WOT in one of these and it sounds like an extremely loud sewing machine going down the road. The CVT and engine sound combo are so bad. A sporty sedan should have a nice exhaust note with actual exhaust pipes.

CVTs arent bad if they have been built well, and use update to date programming to manage the shift points. Theproblem with CVTs are that they arent heavy-duty, and will become problematicif you drive the car hard very often -- especially during the hot weather. Forexample, using the paddle shifters a lot, hard launches from a standstill, orhard launches from a roll. Will ultimately cause a CVT to fail prematurely. Nissan really needs to replace the Maximas CVT with an 8 or 10 Automatictransmission to attract the driver enthusiasts buyers.

I appreciate all the details in these videos, but hes got to cut these down a bit. A quick drive video thats nearly 20 minutes? Then a full review thats coming later thats going to be around 30 minutes? The full review is going rehash a lot of the same stuff on a model thats doesnt have much new to it. The only thing different between this and the full review is that hell be able to give his official grades for ride, handling etc. which he probably just couldve done anyway in this video.

I like the styling, the comfort, the tech is fine, and the motor. CVT is weird but I think Id get used to it. Just as an example, the platinum at 42k would get you: A Stinger GT with AWD, an Acura TLX with AWD, an Accord with similar performance, 10 gears, and almost ten thousand dollars, a V6 Camry and almost ten thousand dollars. I really like the car and Id be willing to pay a premium for the luxury touches - but yikes, they really want a lot of money for this.

Thanks for the video, Alex. I think the Maxima would be good to compare to the Lincoln MKZ, Acura TLX, and Honda Accord when you eventually do your full comparisons. Sure, the Accord is in a different class and price. But I think if the vehicle is not full luxury pricing like the Lexus ES and is in the midsize sedan dimensions, then it needs to compete with the Accord for quality per dollar and maybe sportiness with how Honda is tuning the Accord nowadays.
