Why am I the only one who's sees how GREAT this thing is going to be! I put a deposit on one. It's all the good things about an EV, and it's going to tow, overland, and long distance like NOTHING else. For me, the biggest thing is the 3. 6 - I work on that engine for a living and I KNOW how bulletproof it's going to be. I'm less interested in something like a Jeep 4xE because it's so parallel, so you are dependent on the gas engine for overall reliability. The price for the Tungsten will be eyewatering, but Ram said they will make this available in every trim including Tradesman. Winner! I think this truck is going to a blockbuster success, because it allows hillbillies to buy EVs and that's a big deal. Can you imagine a truck buyer test driving this against all but the top trim gas version and saying I just don't like 600 horsepower or silent effortless operation or fuel that costs 1/7th of gasoline or no maintenance.

The ramcharger sounds awesome on paper. I almost wonder if it has too much EV range Personally if I had one I'd be using the engine once a month or less. I'm not worried about reliability, but it seems like a bunch of extra stuff (engine, gas tank, exhaust) to carry around just to use occasionally. Around 50 miles EV seems like a sweet spot, enough for commuting and day to day errands, but not more than you need. Full EVs have the same problem. People are paralyzed by range anxiety and want 300 miles range. But they will only use the full range a couple times a year, so the rest of the time that battery capacity is largely wasted and makes the EV bigger and heavier than it otherwise needs to be.

Amazing features for buyers like me who will honestly be only using these 99% of the as a commute vehicle. Quarter ton trucks were already an incredible ride as a two row vehicle in suburbs. We’ve cross shopped luxury suvs against trucks before the pandemic and felt trucks were a better ride/value. Almost wish for a smaller EV range to cut down on the price and weight. Hard part to justify is the surely high price tag. I am guessing around 100k which at that price point there are very few justifications for two wfh parents. Though we are in the market for a 2nd car, some times actually writing down your long term retirement goals makes large luxury purchases like this seem wasteful.

This concept will replace the diesel heavy-duty. I'm in Canada. Diesel is too expensive gas isn't far behind. I hate the idea of always worrying about buying DEF. I had an F250 and an f450, the particulate filters would always clog. Not to mention that studies show that the diesel fumes knock off a couple of iq points, and we put our kids in diesel school busses. BESIDES DO YOU THINK STALANTIS IS GOING TO TRUST CUMMINS ANYMORE CUMMINS PROBABLY WON'T BE THE LAST WITH DEFEAT PROGRAMMING. THEY ARE ALREADY THE THIRD ONES TO BE CAUGHT.

Alex, if RAM/Stellantis gives you any beef for calling it a plug-in hybrid, let them know that PHEV owners have high satisfaction with their drivetrains and we're thirsting for more PHEV options. I've been driving a Volt for 10 years because I haven't found anything better below $50K. I want to drive electric for my daily commute and I don't want to make the tradeoffs of an EV on a road trip. I'm not a pickup guy, but I'm putting the Ramcharger on my shortlist. Unfortunately, it will probably exceed my $50K personal cap.

I own a PHEV car and I like it for a pickup truck.
I am a little dubious about the Ramcharger because the engine doesn't turn the wheels directly. It refills the battery which drives the electric motors.
So, you really don't have two means of propulsion. You have two ways of supplying power to the single means of propulsion.
Thus, a fault in the electric drive cripples you whereas in my PHEV car, i could still get around using gasoline with a dead high voltage battery or if the electric motor ceased to operate.

One mistake here is such a large battery pack. A 50-100 mile range is perfect balance if efficiency is targeted.
I suppose the larger battery here is for power and towing on pure electric.
But i wonder what fraction of the customers will buy this thing at the expected price point for daily towing
If u have a generator, isn't the battery more or less always kept with some juice. yet another argument to reduce battery capacity

What fool is gonna spend between a 100 and 120k on a 1/2 ton pick up or any pick up for that matter They are extending loans out to 10 years to lure young ignorant buyers in to this horrible investment and what you will see is 100s of upside down buyers who default in a few years. Those trucks lose 20 to 30 grand as soon as they drive it off the lot. This is so insane. Worst investment in America currently eclipsing RV investment.

As a current Chevrolet Volt oner, the plug-in hybrid Ramcharger makes a lot of sense. I wish I had 150 miles of electric-only!
They, again, knocked the interior out of the park. That color pallet especially, in the Tungsten, was so 'aesthetically pleasing'!
Alas, I won't be affording any of those trucks anytime soon. :D I need to find a better job.

Always great reviews Alex. These will the best trucks in the segment. I currently drive a new Ram 1500 and I love it, and while I may be biased, the fact is that ram is stepping up in the game. I do wonder the bottom line cost of carrying and maintaining that built in generator compared to fully electric; what are your thoughts about this Alex

I used to drive a Volt and it’s really cool to see the concept come back in a pickup truck. I really don’t like the screen though, it’s like the industry is going to standards like automatic braking because they are planning to distract drivers as much as possible. We’re only a couple years away from having to wrestle a 32 tv out of our face.

I really want to know what the capabilities of this are going to be for vehicle to home or vehicle to grid. Especially with the onboard engine, could this serve as battery back up in the same way that the lightning can I read somewhere that it’s going to only be able to provide 7. 2 kW of onboard power as opposed to the 9. 6 of the lightning.

The independent rear suspension is there for one reason: you want the inverter to be right next to the motor, and more than that you want the inverter isolated from shock & vibe. I hear Magna has an inverter that rides on a solid axle pumpkin, but that’s a pricey bit of electronics banging around down there.

The Ram REV is going to have a hard time since it has to fight against the F150 Lightning, Silverado EV & Rivian R1T, but the Ramcharger lives in a class of one. The fact you can treat it like an EV for a daily commute and not be constrained to a short range while towing or going on a road trip is a huge benefit.

The Ramcharger is the most interesting option out of the REV and Gas only Ram. It combines both powertrains, into one package and will have better towing and payload than the Gas only version. Looks like Ram will have a lot of options available for consumers to chose what truck will fit their lifestyle.

I have no idea what GM was thinking making their electric pickup. 1st of all that's not even a Silverado it's a Avalanche we all know it and it's insulting to truck buyer's especially fans of the Silverado pickup for them to put that name on that truck. When it's clearly a Chevy Avalanche

I wonder if the charger actually will cost much more to make than the Rev. the Rev has a much larger battery. The engine they are putting in the charger is probably really cheap for Dodge right now. Since it’s a series hybrid it doesn’t require a transmission or other ICE drivetrain components.

Its a nice concept, but a totally new frame, with a new EV drive train and a horribly unreliable V6 engine sounds like a recipe for a vehicle that will spend more time in the shop than on the road. Maybe in 5 years once they've worked out the kinks this will be a great buy.

I think the plugin hybrid has the most potential. I personally have considered a lightening, but our most frequent trip is from the Seattle area to rural NW Montana. The lack of chargers once you leave the Spokane WA area makes it way too risky. The Ramcharger eliminates that risk.
