Thinking about visiting the Mayan ruins of San Andres or Tazumal? Wanting to surf some of the best waves in Central America? El Salvador is a country with a lot of undiscovered wonders, but with the ranking as the murder capital of the world many tourists shy away from. Here we go through safety issues and safety concerns that travelers should look out for when they visit El Salvador

Sure in the countryside and away from the cities is more chill but damn El Salvador in the city is not safe. Even if you are in the city and dont see any trouble doesnt mean it does not happen. Cancun for example is a massive tourist destination but the cartels are running game there now and the local police have been known to quickly clean a crime scene to not disturb tourism. Like I said just because you dont see anything during your travels does not mean it does not exist. Always exercise caution and if you know someone who is from El Salvador then please try to get recommendations and lists of warnings from a local who knows whats up 24/7.

I was in El Salvador a month ago and it was great, salvadoreans are the most humble and nicest people you can meet. I dressed attractively with my best clothes, and I went to unsafe places like apopa, and downtown San Salvador at 9: 00pm with my new cellphone recording and nothing happened to me. I went to a lot of the most well-known touristic places and I felt safe everywhere, I ate pupusas with a fork and people knew I was from the US and they treated me nicely. El Salvador gets such a bad rap and it's so unfair. Some places in mexico are more dangerous, I even find some US areas more unsafe.

I lived in El Salvador for a couple years and loved it. Amazing people and beautiful country. One tip that was missed and was the only time I ran into a major issue, was taking the short-haul buses. If you take a bus, always take a DIRECTO. Make sure the bus says DIRECTO on the front, often the drivers or their helpers will lie to get you on their bus. The reason is the short-haul buses are far more frequented by gang members, mostly because they make many stops within different gang territories. Long-haul buses or DIRECTOS don't have this issue as much. For in-town or city travel, take taxis.

Wow I don't know if I should thank you or hate you for saying so many bad things about my country when it comes to safety, considering the fact that this is your first time visiting El Salvador, I could say the same thing about any major city in the US, most people that visit the US they are fasinated by everything your country has to offer not by the crime rate or the drug activity in Chicago, New York or LA, so when you make videos about other countries just enjoy the visit and talk about the good things you experienced during your stay.

Just buy a AR15 at the airport and you'll be okay. Just kidding man just get someone local and go to touristy places get a local Sim with data plan $30 (For Uber ) and don't be flexing shit don't carry jewelry, gold chains and a lot of stuff just your phone Airpods and some 150 bucks most places take Credit Cards. It's like the US I wouldn't go to certain neighborhoods Compton for example. Drink water often even if you don't need it gringos and eat pupusas and go to the beaches

I live in El Salvador and if you want some safety tips here you go. Don't you ever Walk where there is a Gang zone, catch a cab or UBER instead if you have to go through a zone like that. Keep your valuables at home. Mind your own business and always ask the places to avoid going to. You just have to be street smart and use common sense. learn Spanish as well, it is useful.

Thank you, I want to travel there because my wife is from the capital San Salvador. She keeps telling me come on its safe but I chicken out because I dont want to take the risk because of the crime. But after watching your video I think I will take the chance and go. I really want to meet her family there. Planning on going at the end of the year 2020.

The touristy areas are safe because they are 'controlled'. It's the gang's bread and butter too - they have an interest in protecting their investments. But make no mistake, they aren't free of gang activity - it's just the order is to keep those places safe for business.

I haven't visited El Salvador in 20 years, unfortunately, for the same reason that I thought it would be too dangerous. I can't wait to visit this coming year & see some of my family: ) I enjoy all of your travel videos as I aspire to do travel vlogs as well. Thank you!
