As somebody who lives in South Africa, when we go to the local national parks, I see SO MANY tourists dressing inappropriately, this video is 100% accurate and exactly the kind of things that you need to do when you're in the bush(as we call it. I have seen so many youtubers even cough Desi Perkins cough dressing like you're heading to a PR event meanwhile you're actually sweating in the bush and the rest of us are laughing at you! Please take this couple's advice - its functional.

Its good to remember that in Southern Africa it does get very cold in early early morning on winter time.
I was in South Africa in April and it was cold indeed when we left for the game drive at dawn. We were wearing two jackets plus the blanket provided by the ranger.
But by late morning it was already warm. So dressing in layers is essential.
Great videos as always, congratulations

Where haven t you been? We 're heading to Kenya and Tanzania first week of July. We 're wondering, suntan lotion, bug spray, buy it before we go? Or are there better ones available there? We 'll have pools in some of our hotels, okay to swim in, as far as chlorine levels, what do you think? Were you okay with the food, as in tummy issues? Money exchange, at the airport there, or before we go.

Bring glasses, bandanas, spf chapstick and a light scarf. these are essential for open air transportation. Do have a working chin strap on your all-around brim floppy hat (Amazon best buy) No need for a hard safari hat. those are comically a PIA and better left to Hollywood. I brought a small knit cap and light jogging gloves for early morning. You'll be up before the sun.

Great video! We locals always chuckle at tourists who come to South Africa and obviously went all out on Safari gear and only packed that while walking the streets of Cape Town etc. So yes, pack a set or so of your normal clothes when you visit Africa and plan to go to the cities unless you really want to stand out from the crowd.

I once took my prescription sunglasses out on safari and left my regular glasses at the accommodation, which became a pain when the sun inevitably set around 6pm (in Malawi. this meant that I had to choose between no glasses (no vision, or sunglasses in the dark (no vision. this probably won't affect most people, but worth keeping in mind!

Great tips! You made me think about the mosquitoes there. Some of them can be quite aggressive and dangerous right? Transmit diseases, the yellow fever and whatnot. How did you guys protect yourselves from them? Shots before leaving?

good advice. when traveling around towns, you can leave the safari gear back at the hotel or tented camp. Out there wearing earth tones (and those zip on/off shorts/pants) are the best. And support good animal conservation.

What not to wear on safari? Animal print clothes. Dont rock a leopard print dress near a herd of wildebeest and start a stampede or dont wear a zebra striped jump suit near a pride of hungry lions. The obvious things.

Glad you know about the buck naked shorts. True, real comfortable and wash / dry quick! Maybe dry on the fly pants?
Armachillo didnt make a difference to me, but the shirts were easy care.
Enjoy Africa!
