Exhaling through the nose short before inhaling is not good, because there is no time. The time for breathing is limited, because while breathing the whole body has to hold itself in line. Also, no one uses up enough oxygen while swimming to inhale without prior hard exhaling. The best thing to learn is to exhale through the mouth under water short before inhaling. The nose is too small to exhale enough. Also exhale while swimming through the nose. Stopping exhaling while swimming disrupts the rhythm of swimming and sends false warning signals to the brain.

These videos are excellent. swimming is a highly technical discipline with lots of elements. its taken me several years to reduce my 100m CSS from 2: 00 to 1: 40. I can punch out a 1500m pool swim in 25. 45. At 50 yrs young I don't think that's too bad a time tbh. I swim twice a week and I am largely self taught but for videos like these. when your 'self' teaching in the water its very difficult observe yourself and correct mistakes. Consistency is the name of the game.

I just finished my swim today. I've learned how to breathe just a week ago and getting better every time. I still have a huge problem with getting out of breath at the end of 25m and my heart rate is throught the roof. Maybe this exercise will help me somehow to be calm. I'm not panicking, but this breathing thing is so unnatural. I don't know If I'm breathing too much or exhaling at the wrong time, it does not feel right yet for some reason.

Makes me want to try this. I would combine it with my deep breathing technique which greatly improves oxygen efficiency. The first time I held my breath for 4 minutes it felt good afterwards - there is something about body chemistry that sort of self-renews when practicing this technique. What kind of results could be achieved after deep breathing before swimming I wonder.

HI i have 30 year of agonistic swimming in italy. you say correct but. but every person have a different feeling with watar and every coach must adapt this felling in a different way of a single guys.
every body are different, every muscle are different every sensation are different and you have to understand all this thinks and adapt to the person you have in front of you.

This breathing sequence is incorrect. NEVER EVER ever swing your arms above the water line. That will sink the body! That will sink the swimmers face at the moment of the breath.
There is a correct breathing sequence on Total Immersion Swimming H2O and Perpetual Motion. 3 steps toll up 3 steps to roll down. TI simple and easy. Sorry, your advice is inaccurate.

Phew! Im a swim teacher and I was slightly worried that my teaching would be entirely wrong but wahooo its not. Ive been telling my students for years they need to already be breathing by the time their arm is flush with their leg. Until they get the idea they dont have time to exhale and inhale they cant really progress.

This video is gold. Just starting out, and was getting tired after 250m (and needed to stop. Heart racing. Watched this video, applied today, and did 1km non-stop. It's not much, but feels like an incredible achievement to me! My shoulders felt fresh, so I'm not there yet, but I'll keep practicing. Thanks a lot!

swimming is too competitive. For children and elderly, enjoying the pool should be first. And breathing is the first step.
I learned to breathe early by letting go of the edge and sinking to the bottom.
If you can swim underwater with your mouth open, you know how to breathe

This is actually an important concept in learning how to play a woodwind instrument. Regulating the feeling of needing to take a breath, but needing to continue to exhale until all of your last inhalation is out is some thing that students work on well into college. Interesting video!

I just change it up from every 4 arm strokes to every 2 when I start to get tired, but then again I've always tried to reduce arm strokes per length so I'd be screwed waiting every 10. I think people lose form on their breathing stroke, but if you do it right it makes no impact.

Is his body rotation equal while swimming? I ask because he is breathing to one side instead of both. When breathing unilateral, swimmers tend to favor one side and I have noticed that body position is no longer in a straight line compared to those who breathe bilateral.

Hi! Lifetime weightlifter here. I began swimming a couple of years ago and it's now a main activity in my lifestyle. I love it! It's such a great compliment to my weight training, and vice versa. Train smart and have fun: )

Always breath with you head and mouth underwater like depicted the thumbnail. You don't need air to breathe. just suck in the water. Come on man, suck it up! You know you can do it. Who needs oxygen to breathe? Just swim face down.

I just can't seem to breathe at all. Water gets into both my nose and mouth despite my head being above water. People watched me from the side and were like all seems normal bro, dunno how water is getting in. Any ideas?
