Check Out Stack By Phi: Most men over 40 will never reach 10% body fat. Not because they don’t have the genetics, not because they’re too old, and not because they don’t have enough discipline. Instead, it’s because while our physiology changes, our approach to fat loss does not; but the strategies that got you ripped in your 20s won’t work the same in your 40s and beyond. And that’s exactly what I want to discuss in today’s video: the 3 reasons you’re not reaching 10% body fat after 40, and how to fix it. And make sure you watch til the end, because I’m going to give you the exact framework I use to get absolutely shredded, and maintain it year-round without even trying. I'm more muscular and leaner now in my 60s than in my 20s due to understanding training and diet. Sleep 8 hrs, gallon water daily, I swear by 18hr daily fasting. I train 4 days a week with 2 splits. Mon/Wed Arms, Delts, Abs, Tues/Thurs Back, Chest, Legs. 12-18 total sets per muscle group/week, averaging 8 rep/set, 3 sets per group. Example Chest- Machine bench 3x8, Incline Smith 3x8 and Pec Deck 3x8. Supplements: 1000mg daily of C, 10KIU D3, 20-30 gm whey protein in morning coffee. Had blood tested and my T levels are same as a 25 yr olds. Father Time is undefeated but I'm going the full 18 rounds.

The most effective fat loss according to scientific studies is a diet of VLC diets. About 850 calories. Very Obese persons in particular HAVE NO OTHER STRATEGY. Like an alcoholic, part of the problem is using food for psychological dopamine gratification. So for fat people, and not merely body mrecomp. Enthusiasts wishing to move from 25% to 15% fat while building muscle, they will require a weekly loss of 2 to 3 pounds. Such fat people 50 pounds or more 3xcess fat, require basic resustance trainingm monility, daily 500 calorie cardio- walking- and better vo2 max

Fat is energy stored to enable survival during food scarcity eating in a calorie deficit is called starving you cannot maintain starvation eventually your body will begin using protein for energy by breaking down muscle which requires energy to maintain but isn't necessary to live so if you want to get to a low body fat percentage eat a low carb diet with plenty of good fats and quality protein so you can build muscle while keeping insulin ( which makes you store fat ) low

that part about having a target date in mind to help get thru the ugly phase sounds good from the start, but i can also see it could be a big setback if not reached by then, and people might abandon the healthy protocol, this stuff should be lifelong habits, not momentary towards a specific end date. This is just one other way of looking at a very small portion of the video.

Timely. I’ve hit a plateau in my strength gains, and I’ve determined that I’m just dieting too hard, having been strength training and maintaining a calorie deficit for several months. Although the results have been incredible, I find myself wanting to see the numbers on those dumbbells getting higher and higher again.

People always seem to be focused on 6 packs. 15-18% would be perfect. You can see outline of abs. simply not bodybuilding abs. But your arms, chest and shoulders will look very good. And it looks great on the beach. So, unless you believe that you want to enter competitions, 15-18 % is AWSOME!

Another way to lose fat is simply by gaining more muscle mass. Bigger engines use more fuel at idle. If you eat 2, 500 calories and your body burns 3, 000, that's a built-in in deficit. Plus you don't have to starve yourself.

Good advice on how to get lean but when it comes to bodyfat percentage I just don't get it. To me, you look in the mirror and decide what you want to look like and when you get there that is your desired bodyfat number.
reply

See I probably could do but I definitely wouldn't and for me the reason is I feel absolutely horrible when I'm lean. Headaches, constant hunger and a host of other things it wasn't fun even when I was younger

If I eat past 4 p m, I wake up about 2 a m sweating, do I normally eat before noon. I've eaten carnivore for 7 years and am 73 years old. I weigh around 155 pounds and work out 3-5 days a week.

I got down to 9. 5% at age 60 when I was prepping for my one and only contest. Definitely not something 99% of older guys would want to do and definitely not sustain. 13-15% is a better range IMO.
reply

Not saying it's healthy but as long as you're in a calorie deficit your body has no choice but to lose weight. You may plateau for a bit but you will eventually start losing again.

If you eat 3 meals a day of 30-40 grams of protein that’s a max of 120 grams of protein. At 200 pounds of body weight how do I get to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight
reply

All the fat guys who think they’re in shape in these comments I wouldn’t want to get that lean lol. No, it’s cause you don’t have the discipline to get that lean.

I’ve been 10% in my 40s (well below that in my 20s and 30s had an 8 pack then) 15% is far more enjoyable and healthier long term. You’ll still look great.

Meat has better absorption, got my blood test back from v. a. i am at a normal range. Very little veggies. Im a 41. Use liver supplements from heart & soil.

I always hear protein is the most satiating macro and I’m not saying it’s wrong sometimes I need it. I feel like potatoes are the most satiating food.
reply

Contradiction: you said to eat 30- 40 grams of protein 4 times per day, but then recommend an eating window which will reduce the meal frequency.

Please do a video on losing fat while having hypothyroidism, I've actually gained fat while being in an 800-1000 cal deficit for the last 4 months.

Eat. Stop. Eat again.
After having no luck with the Eat without ever stopping and Never eat strategies, I will give that a try.
