Protein Before Bed - It DOES Build Muscle Faster (New Study)

It’s no secret that protein is the most important macronutrient for muscle growth. And while eating enough protein daily is critical if the goal is to build muscle, there may be other ways to optimize your gains. Recent research, for example, continues to shed light on the positive effects of consuming protein before bed. The premise behind consuming protein before bed is rooted in the body's natural processes during sleep. Sleep is a critical time for muscle repair and growth, as the body undergoes various physiological changes to recover from the day's activities. During sleep, the body enters a fasting state, where it relies on stored nutrients to fuel essential functions, including protein synthesis. Thus, consuming pre-sleep protein will provide the body with a steady stream of amino acids throughout the night, optimizing the recovery process, and ultimately leading to faster gains in muscle mass.

I started (c. 50g) extra (whey) protein at bedtime about 4 weeks ago and people I hadn't seen for about 5 weeks have been volunteering, What did you do You're bigger than you were the last time I saw you! Even guys at the gym have noticed so, yeah, I don't think this is just manufacturer-financed research results. Being keto seems to be something that really helps, too, since my body is already tuned to accept protein intake.

I've noticed a very strange pattern. When I wake up early that day I make progress at the gym. When I sleep until late I plateau or in most cases even deteriorate. This happen literally every single workout every day I either wake up early or sleep late. It didn't used to be this way. This only seems to have started a few months ago. Didn't notice anything like that for 11 years of working out before.

Your organs shut down during sleep. I suggest eating 2 hrs BEFORE bed. the nutrients are absorbed mostly in the intestines (not the stomach. This is provided you work out at night or before sleep. This would keep me up. Interesting research. but is it accurate or sensible Always enjoy your videos. Also, nice to see you w/o the hat! Stay hard, brother!

How about timing prior to bed. As this seems counter productive in reinforcing good sleep habits if it's just prior to sleep Usually it's recommended to finish eating and exercising 2-3 hrs prior to sleeping but this video does not seem to be clear, do I take my shake right before bed or right after exercise which would occur at least 2 hrs before bed

One way it could be detrimental, is that the liquid may make you wake up to pee during the night and therefore disrupt sleep.
Not sure what the comparison in that sense would be vs a group that just sleeps through and anecdotally has better, natural recovery.

Although longer term casein use can cause leaky gut and inflammation. Before sleep, I sometimes prefer pea protein with some bromelain enzymes powder for absorption and 1 gram of leucine just to make sure there's enough of that to help trigger synthesis.

Hello sir, what about the growth hormone secretion during the deep sleep which happens during the early stage of sleep and requires low insulin in the body for best growth and adaption, was this considered during the studies

How much protein can your body absorb per serving I've been told by an advanced trainer at my gym your body can only absorb 30g every 3-4 hrs & anymore just gets flushed down the toilet. Is this fact or

This is why I have protein immediately after my workout and eat my dinner late in the evening. It keeps me from snacking and ensures my body has the nutrients available for recovery and repair.

The technique is just using a blend that contain a mix of like 60 whey-40 casein and you'll get the best of both worlds. At least that's what I do, and I do build muscle more muscle. Best

What about just consuming a high protein meal or snack before bed why does it have to be a shake any studies where they feed the subjects some bacon and eggs before bed
reply

so as the bros already said since like ever casein before bed, whey right after gettin outta bed and dont forget the after workout whey shake.

Wall mart powder milk. 1 cup milk with warm water 24g protein, 240 cal. Costs alot less. Warm milk at bedtime makes you sleepy.
