PUSHUPS - Perfect Form Every Single Time!

m going to show you how to do a perfect pushup every single you do them. In fact, I-m going to show you how to instantly correct how you do them and be able to tell the next time you do one improperly so you can prevent that. There is nothing that screams amateur more than not being able to perform a perfect pushup rep. Again however, this is actually quite common to see someone not do a push up properly. It starts with the innate cheats that the exercise promotes. Let-s break it down. We know that the goal of a push up is to lower our body to the floor and then push ourselves back up. As the chest and arms fatigue however, there is a tendency to try and take some of the stress out of them and shift it somewhere else. The first thing you see is a shortened range of motion by the arms during the descent. Instead of bending the elbows to 90 degrees, the amount of elbow bend is greatly minimized to reduce the impacts of the exercise on the mounting fatigue. The pelvis and hips are still allowed to drop however. This creates the feel and illusion that the body is still being lowered when it is just the lower body that is. This also makes it easier on the arms since the knees may ultimately touch the floor which will offset the amount of load being borne by the arms during the movement. Next, we see people do the opposite and instead of sagging the lower back and dropping the hips they actually raise them up to the sky. What this does is shift the focus of the work away from the chest and onto the shoulders. With the shoulders having to do more of the work, there is a temporary reprieve for the chest and arms and the pushup becomes possible to perform a few additional reps. In both cases however, these cheats are incorrect and are going to take away from the benefits of the exercise. What you need to do is focus not on the arms but on the chest and the pelvis. If you can connect the two in your head and make sure that the pelvis never moves an inch without the chest moving with it (or vice versa) then you will ensure that you do every rep properly. You can actually reinforce that you are doing this right with your phone. Simply place the phone between your shoulder blades on your upper back and start doing your pushups. If you lift your butt up too high you will find that the phone slides towards your neck and head. If you drop the hips and sag the lower back, you will find that the phone slides towards your butt. Again, either one of these is incorrect and will take away the results you should be seeing from your pushups in your chest workouts. This is just one example of how doing an exercise incorrectly can impact the gains you see from your workouts. If you are looking to get every exercise right and see much faster muscle growth because of it, head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Start training like an athlete and realize the benefits that doing so can have on your physique

Although there are different variations for a pushup, the best way and right way is to keep the back flat while keeping ht hips level with the shoulders, keeping the knees bent as well, and when you move to do a pushup, move slightly forward and down in an arcing motion and then return to the original position. always press from the palm and the tips of the fingers and imagine you are trying to press through the floor when performing the pushups. make sure to keep the knees slightly bent and also the hips/glute area higher. you will get a great pump out of this.

I've noticed that my hands are uneven when doing pushups, the left is usually higher than the right. Simply dropping to the ground with my hands in proper push up position is a difficult task, No matter how hard I try to straighten and make them even I can't. I've been doing high reps of 500 a day for years and I'm not sure when this started. I was told it appears that I appear to be leaning towards one side when I do them as well. Do you know how I can correct this, or what may be causing it?

First time I ever watch one your videos and it actually works for me. The older I got the more I started to notice that I-ve been cheating myself when it I would do push-ups, so I started to do research on the correct form. Your video gave me a way to help me check my form without anyone being around and I-m thankful for it -

I got a question with my pushup when I go down I tilt my head a bit more down then my back and then when I go back up my head goes a bit more up then my back so my head isn-t exactly perfect alignment with my back. Is it ok or should it be in perfect alignment

Why do my elbows click when I do push ups? I'm 14 years old and I feel no pain but with every push up there is a click and this goes for my knees too - my knees click when doing squats. Why is this and how can I fix it?

Im now able to do 20 push ups in a row, but is it okay that my elbows go out at like an 80 degree angle. I see his elbows going at more of a 45. Maybe im making my triceps do none of the work by doing that. Please let me know

Can any of you guys help a beginer out? I started with push ups, but when i do them, my elbows span sideways rather than thrust back.
Even if i course correct, it goes back as before.
Any hack for that?

Jeff this is off the topic of push ups but have you ever heard of or used a Bulgarian bag to train. If so what are the benefits of training with one from a scientific perspective as well as some of the risks?

Thank you for this video, extremely helpful. Once I implemented the proper movement I noticed the difference right away. A nice burn all through my chest within the first few reps. ATHLEAN X 4 LIFE!

How low should we go. Should the chest touch the ground or should it almost touch it. Why do some people say that looking front is correct and looking down is wrong?
