s favorite athlean every man Jesse is back at it, partaking in the revised military combat fitness test to showcase his current level of fitness. Now, nobody every claimed that Jesse was the epitome of fitness. That said, he does have some emerging talents and a well rounded set of physical attributes that make him perform pretty darn well on this test. It-s time to see where you stack up now. Take each of the following fitness tests and perform them within a two hour period to obtain your score. Jesse, to be fair, was asked to do all of this within 30 minutes for the purpose of speeding along the filming! That-s ok, he can take it. You on the other hand can have more time to more accurately represent the test as it was designed. The first test is the hex bar deadlift. If you have never performed this version of the deadlift before then you will likely find out two things about it quickly. First, it is a little harder to get used to the balance of the bar simply because it is placing the weight closer to your center of gravity. Secondly, because the bar is closer to your posterior chain muscles and the moment arm is shortened, you should be able to lift slightly more weight here. The max score on this is one-s ability to perform 345 lbs for 3 reps. Next is the Power Throw. This is performed with a 10 pound medicine ball that must be thrown backwards over the head without coming off the ground. The maximum distance to get a top score on this test is about 15 yards on the throw. Next is the sprint, drag, carry. Here you will be simulating battlefield activities through the use of a weighted sled (90 lbs total weight, some kettlebells that weigh 40 pounds each, and your own body. The goal is to cross the finish line within one minute and forty seconds to obtain elite status. Next is the hand release pushups. Now don-t be fooled by these. This exercise is much much harder than a typical hand release pushup. The lifting of the hands from the floor between every rep ensures that you don-t cheat the exercise. Instead, you have to reset the body and use pure muscle without momentum to get yourself off the floor every time. A maximum score can be achieved by performing 70 of these within 2 minutes. Next is the tuck hang. This is a combination of a hands close pullup with a knee raise. The goal is to touch your knees to your elbows on every rep while pulling our body up towards the bar. If you can perform 20 in two minutes you will have reached elite status on this test. Finally, the two mile run is a classic standard of conditioning. The best score is achieved by being able to run this distance within twelve minutes and forty-two seconds. Jesse happens to excel here since he has an extensive background of playing lacrosse. Ironically, there are some fitness youtubers that are extremely one dimensional and can likely not even run a mile let alone two and certainly not within any strict time period. Just saying. If you want to look like an athlete, you have to train like an athlete. This means being well rounded with your fitness. If you are ready to take your physique and fitness to the next level, head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Build a ripped, strong, athletic body and see fast results within just the next 90 days

The dead hang is only for those who cannot do a leg tuck. The hex dead lift bar is not to standard. Your hex dead lift is easy to lift since the handles are higher. The sprint drag and carry starts in the hand release push up down position. The arms extend to completely to 90 degrees from the body during the hand release push up event. 60 hand release is now the maximum amount. The sled is not official.
One of the best ways to max this test is find and know the standards for the ACFT and actually practice each week. Just like the Olympics, they practice the actual event first and then use other exercises to help. Run at least three times each week with an interval every other week and a tempo run in between.
This is a test strength and endurance. Most people who go to the gym struggle with test and maybe max the dead lift. Also they are too focused on getting big to impress people rather than maximizing the test to get more promotion points to get the next rank faster.
Bodybuilding is fine if you going to a bodybuilding contest, but does not work well for combat. Combat is intense where strength and endurance is needed. When I train people, I tell them they lift all the weight they want and they need to, but also need endurance. Without both the survival rate in combat is low.

Slamming of the hex bar for the first time is a warning. Second time slamming the weights down results in a fail of the event. Must have complete control of the weight on the way up and down. On the hand release push ups. The going to the knees and swinging of the arms is not a authorized resting person. When he hit the 30 push up mark n got up he terminated himself at 30. (Ended his go at the event. Only resting position allowed is in the up position of the push up. On the leg tucks. Dropping off the bar terminates your go at the event. Authorized resting position is in the dead man hang. So dropping at 10 ended his attempt at the event. For the run which wasn-t shown. His time would upon average will go up anywhere from 30-45 seconds. All events must be completed within a minute of each other and doesn-t allow a moment for rest. Other then that, definitely did better then the support elements. Will give you the deadlift. I like the 540 score. Do it again with the no rest time in between.

Mhm Jesse is fitter than me. I can do 150kg / 330p regular deadlifts thats close but pro Jesse i think. I can throw 5kg / 11punds for -12 m/yeards, thats for me cause heavier but same distance. Carry was 1: 50 with 20kg / 44p bells i think that one goes to Jesse too. Push ups i'm at 40 so Jesse won. Lying down kills me. The tuck hang i can't do properly. My 3 mile time is under 15min but i can't hold Jesse's 14, 4km/h for 2 miles. XD and my biceps looks way smaller. I'm 5- 9/6- and 210 pounds. :-/ tho loosing weight and pull more. Not really what i like to train but lets see.

Lol theres so many things wrong with this. You cant make the weights slam for deadlift sprint drag carry you start on your stomach on the ground. Hand release pushups the only authorized rest position is the starting position for a regular pushup. Also your thumb has to be inside your shoulder so in line with your pecs. There is also no authorized rest position for leg tucks besides a dead hang. Also your knees need to touch your elbow to count and you cant swing. Sprint drag carry is also only 15 meters so 45 feet. The power throw is a 8 lb medicine ball not 10.

I-m in the Army and have been certified as a grader and NCOIC for the ACFT and I-ve been dying to get your take on PRT. This video brings a big ass smile to my face! When I was deployed I made the best gains in my life utilizing your you tube videos, before you got that fancy gym. Many of the changes the Army has made to its physical training doctrine seems like it came straight from AthleanX (not all of it though.

I am very impressed with jessies Performance. Imho he is way above average.
My stats are about his size, weight and bodyfat. My Hobby is Rock climbing.
But exept from the hanging test, he outclassed me by far.
Jessie maybe average as an athlete, but as an average guy he is extremely fit.
I get where Jeff is coming from, but imho it gets a little decieving by now.

If you are any kind of runner, 12: 45 is absolute light work. Holy moly I could run a 12: 45 right now and I have a strained hamstring. I could run a 12: 45 with my shoes tied together. Those med ball throws though? absolutely no chance I would pass that test. Guess he was right about that well rounded stuff. I'm only 130 pounds so I'd be at a bit of a disadvantage.

Short answer, yes. Far above it. I want to thank you though Jeff. First 2 years of my fitness journey is accredited to you. The later 2 was when I branched off and focused on powerlifting and bodybuilding. Currently trying to get my cardio good enough to marathon, lol. Thank you for being the best source of making sure I didn't get injured in my exercises.

Unfortunately, high school athletics is all about one dimensional fitness. Some guys can bench 300 lbs while they can't even run a 9 min mile. Others can run a 5 min mile but can't even bench 90 lbs. Some golfers can't do either. I hope there's a sport where you need a good balance of every aspect of fitness.

Good job Jesse.
Just an interesting note. Most combat unit's have a unit standard they need to make over the general standard fitness tests. So usually you will get in trouble for only meeting the general military fitness standard and not the standard above that with your unit.
