m going to explain whether trying to get your sweat on is actually increasing the amount of body fat you are burning in your workouts or just burning you out and hurting your overall workout quality. To start, it is important to differentiate between losing weight and losing body fat. When you lose weight, it is very possible that none of the loss came from a true loss in adipose tissue. In fact, it is not uncommon for someone to lose even ten pounds in a single workout. That said, this is all water loss through sweating. If you rehydrate properly, you should put back on this weight within hours of finishing your workout. In fact, your body is built for survival. If it senses a dramatic loss in water through a monitoring of blood volume then it can trigger your thirst mechanism. The need to drink is our body-s way of helping us to replace lost fluids and get back to an environment in which we can thrive. For those of us trying to not just burn body fat but also build muscle, it stands to reason that you will never want to be dehydrated. Now, when people are looking to burn fat faster in their workouts they may wear heavy workout gear like a sweat suit or a rubber suit. The thought is, this will make them sweat much more and will accelerate the fat burning process. This is not correct at all. In fact, it could actually be defeating the purpose by accelerating your path to dehydration and therefore impacting the quality of your workout leading to fewer calories burned. When your core body temperature is elevated, your body releases water through the pores of your skin that eventually evaporate and help to cool you off and bring your body temp back down closer to your normal. Physical activity is not a prerequisite for this to occur. I could be standing in the middle of the Sahara desert and start sweating profusely. No physical activity is being done and therefore my caloric expenditure is greatly minimized. On the other hand, I could be doing a gut busting conditioning workout that includes burpees, box jumps, jump rope, etc in the middle of the frozen tundra in negative degree temperatures and not break a sweat. The reason is simply that the outside temps are so cold that even with all the physical activity I am not able to increase my core body temperature at all to necessitate a sweat. That doesn-t negate the fact that I-m working really hard and burning calories. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters when it comes to fat loss is that your body is being placed in a hypocaloric state quite often and consistently. This means that you are burning more calories than you are taking in. This is why fat burning workouts are not actually necessary to be lean and ripped. If you managed to decrease your calories through diet alone you could wind up getting very lean without every having to do specific conditioning workouts. That said, we tend to opt for the fat burning workouts and in doing so need to throw out the sweat factor and focus most on the intensity of the training. Now one last point that should be made. Likely if you are doing harder exercises with more effort for a longer period of time you will sweat more than if you did easy exercises at an easy pace for shorter. The first scenario is likely going to be able to raise your core temp more and increase your sweating. That could lead to the confusion of sweating equating to fat loss. Don-t be confused. It is just a byproduct of the high intensity and caloric burn. If you are looking for a program that helps you to burn fat fast by mixing in the right type of conditioning with a fat loss meal plan and strength training workouts, head to and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. If you want to be ripped like an athlete you need to start training and eating like one

As a pharmacist I have this to say:
Increasing your body temperature stimulates a part of your nervous systeme called the sympatique nervous system, the stimulqtion of this pqrt happens when the body is exposed to physical and or emotional stress, including as mentionned high temperature, this is the part of your nervous system that activate the release of adrenaline and neuradrenaline, wich are direct stimulus to the process of lipolisis aka the decompoaition of triglycerides in the adipose tissue and release of fatty acids, as well as stimulating the neuromuscular junction of some internal organs that are necessary to the functionning of the body, more notably the constriction of blood vessels that connect to non essential organs in that situation like the stomach and bile and intestines, as well as dilate the blood vessels of essential ones like the heart lungs and liver.
From all this I modestly disagree with this video and hope you do more research on the subject and correct me if I'm wrong.
So in general: high heat=>more adrenaline and neradrenaline, more lipolisis, more activation of essential organs that help the activity of the muscles, more burning calories in general.
Sweating is just a byeffwct of the process, as well as the increase of thirst.
Hope it helped.

I love how well you explained every single videos that you make that includes this one. I do have a question for you that I want you to answer for me to see if the person that told me this is correct. I have a friend, shes a college soccer player. I asked her how come she burns a lot of calories in like an hour session. In one hour session she can easily burn one thousand calories. And I do a lot of hiit trainings which includes my goalkeeper high intensity workouts. And I only burn up to 700 calories in a training session. I am using an app called map my run to calculate. She is using her apple watch. She told me that calories are calculated depending on the persons heart rate. and the map my run cannot calculate my heart rate exactly to calculate the calories loss. She also told me that I should not focus to much about how much calories I am loosing during a workout, but focus on having an excellent workout and feel that I put in the work rather than the calories burned. What do you think about what she told me?

I actually started my last workout with dry lips and when I was done working out I had gained 1, 2kgs, just by getting hydrated throughout working out. I worked out for two hours though, first strenght, then cardio, then a little strenght again. interestingly I found the cardio (boxing bag) got me energized enough to pump some extra volume on some exercises although ive previously had completely exhausted my arms, which had felt like made of wood really, stiff af.

i guess people believe they are sweating fat but in fact the overheating will make the body spend more calories to control its temperature i wouldn't bother despairing that much just for a few extra calories i dont believe that people have to make fat loss more disgusting than it already is. consistency in the nutrition will always outshine any desperate measure and for anyone in that path consistency will always be a lot harder than melt while exercising

i walk ten min on the treadmill. I look like somsone threw water on me. I'm not winded or tired. IS that Normal? After a 45 min workout. I have to change my shirt and shorts. I'm soaked! Like someone who just swam in a pool. My calories Burned is normally 1000 to 1200 cals an hour. I dont remember sweating like that when i was a kid.

You on; y dispelled ONE myth. Sauna Suits and doing nothing burns less calories and expels more water - TRUE, but what about Sauna Suit during exercise, while hydrating? Studies have shown that this burns more calories AND makes you lose more weight AND increases your cardiovascular VO2 AND decreases your mortality rate!

I spent the first half of this video, doing an intense workout, at the end I could barely breath, yet I barely broke a sweat. meanwhile when I do my much simpler ab exercise. I'm sweating like crazy by the end. yet I'm sure over the same amount of time, they'd burn similar amounts of calories. sweat means nothing

I confess that I already thought that the fat goes out trough the sweat. But I read in another place that the fat actually evaporate and goes out trough the breathing.
Is that correct? Because it's make sense. For some place it's have to go out, no?

My friends still are dead set that sweating means fat burn and that behind the neck presses are optimal exercises. Asking a doctor about that is irrelevant, they trust a trainer more (such idiotic trainers sadly exist in masses)

There was a Mexican guy on the island I used to live on that would go for a run every day in sweats, a hoody, and a toboggan, all black. 95 degrees with 90% humidity that man is still out there in the full gear
