Okay. So I want a watch for two reasons; 1) fitness tracker/gps and 2) to easily change music on my phone when I am on the move.
And do you know what? Damned if Wear OS has ever adequately managed to do this. I am currently using a Polar M600 and it was a dog. Christ. And the battery just went (it no longer charges above 70%.
For me the Android watch and it's eco-system has never worked. I do not know if I will roll the dice on another one.
So, I do not agree with all the points in the video, because my use case for the product is different, but the reason it is a great idea is because it is an idea, it is a unified vision and a direction to move into and explore. Currently Wear OS is a product designed by committee, trying to be all things and mastering none.

I'd personally like my watch to be less dependent on my phone. To be a phone itself rather. I try hard to get used to wear os but constantly find Chinese full Android watches way more useful than Wear OS, Apple watches etc. I don't want my watch to be my phone's second screen, just don't need it, I need it to be a backup phone with all possible apps installed and working. If I had to only use a watch as a companion tool, I'd rather wear my beautiful mechanical watch and forget about smart watches at all.

always love a good rant.
sad that you can only use these devices if you are ready to give up your privacy, like, completely. including health data.
also sad, all the problems from 5 years ago are still there: crappy battery, bad interface, big and clunky.
at this point, i guess watch makers will find the solution to this, adding digital features to their normal watches.

I think the apps are fine. sure some of them are pretty garbage but I found some good ones too (messenger, spotify, shazam. As for the watch mode, it already exists e. g. on ticwatch pro (I have one and it does it's job, not the prettiest solution but the option is there at least. A week long battery life would be dope however, currently I charge my watch every 2-3 days.

I bought a cheaper smartwatch to see if I liked wearing one, and after a few months I'm totally on board. I'm looking to upgrade to a better one. I'm thinking a Samsung watch to go with my S9. I really love what Samsung is doing with the s9 and Dex, so I thought I might like their watch. I need to go watch some reviews though.

I want all that you mentioned from a smart watch, such as long battery life, great looks, simple to use with basic smart functions, and inexpensive. Such a watch does exist! I have chosen Withings Steel HR exactly for these reasons, and I am extremely happy with it. Check it out.

I agree with you this time Michael: O. They shouldn't try to turn the watch into a miniature phone, that's not convenient in such a small screen and will of course drain the battery way too fast. I hope they listen.
