So, I just upgraded my laptop with a refurbished model, and it came with LibreOffice. I had been using Apache OpenOffice and really had no issues with it. Like many people I have a problem paying for Microsoft Office even though I love it. It turns out the old and no longer supported Apache OpenOffice is the framework for LibreOffice. Now, after watching this video I feel confident my old files from OpenOffice as well as my wife's Microsoft Office (provided by the company she works for) files will navigate between our systems seamlessly. Thanks for making a great video explaining so many options for free but robust alternatives to paid subscription office software!

No, I will not use the free MS Office. Office 365 is way too expensive; such a rich company can make it more affordable. We are not all from 1st world countries where you are paid big bucks. We are in a 3rd world country and students, retired and homebound private individuals just cannot come up with that money. So, even though MS Office is really good, I will look for cheaper alternatives or even and older MS Office. It does not matter if it is still supported and we do not use everything in the package either. Right now, I am looking for an offline version of Outlook that I can use through my ISP.

Hello, Kevin. Thanks for this wonderfully helpful video. Here's my question: If I use one of these great MS Word alternatives for proofreading (I'm about to start my freelancing business), will my clients be able to tell that I didn't use MS Word? I know most clients send Word documents and expect them to be corrected in Word. I really don't want to pay for MS. Thanks again!

My mom has been using Google's Office Suite because she was tired of having to pay for Microsoft's crap. She ended up giving the finger to Microsoft, but she still uses Windows because she's a lifelong windows user (so am I, but I switched my main OS over to Linux, but still use it.) I'll show her this video and she might consider one of these.

I-m just hoping to find a good, no account needed, no subscription, no up selling, no internet reliant, office alternative for me to use. I-m tired of how encumbered I-ve become with websites and accounts and privacy breeches, I just want it all downloaded on my computer and never deal with another sites misuse of my information

As always Kevin, you bring it! Thanks for explaining these. I have a friend who-s trying to find an alternative to MS Office to avoid the high costs. I-m stuck on MS Office myself because I do a lot of techie things and I just need and love the full functionality it offers in its apps. Knowledge is power!

I am a WPS office user for 1 year believe me it is amazing. Most of Microsoft Office users don't even use those features or know them for which they are paying huge subscription fee. Freeware's can do most of things that an average user need.

Office has become way too bloated. Remember how fast Office 97/2000 were? As processors got quicker, things should have got quicker but things slowed down. It's way too slow even with all the extra features.

Thank you for these alternatives.
Microsoft on line does not offer Spell Check, nor can I print an addressed envelopes.
This is a big inconvenience if you write professional letters.
