I like what I'm seeing from AMD lately. I know, the 9000 series was a bit of a flop because it focused on ridiculous efficiency rather than impressive performance - but with rising energy cost, for many people that's not too bad.
These new X3D CPUs are pretty impressive though. Although I have to say, I dislike that the x600X3D CPUs are Microcenter exclusives, because it means outside of Microcenter areas, we don't get those - in Europe, for example. There are propably ways to get them shipped here, but with import taxes and shipping fees it'll be easier and more efficient to just buy a stronger, non-exclusive CPU.
I've also seen that (especially with some discounts) the 5000 series X3D CPUs are now REALLY affordable. I've seen them as low as 150 Euro, which means I can upgrade my AM4 system to get another few months before I start building a new system - no, the current one will not just be used for a few months, it will become by partner's new gaming rig for when they're at my place, as soon as I have a new system.
The new one will then likely feature the 9800X3D because I cannot get past the performance. No idea what GPU I'll use though, I'm hoping for a decent upper-midend or lower highend card from AMD by the time it becomes relevant.

I just realized that about 6 years ago, AMD was a worthless company when compared to intel. They had a 5 year old bulldozer architecture as their best gaming cpu which was pure junk when compared to intel. They were clearly just barely hanging on and then came Ryzen now I have a laptop with a 16 core 32 thread Ryzen 9 in it that directly trades blows with intel’s best desktop cpus and never throttles 6 years ago, a 4 core cpu was the norm with an 8 core cpu being astronomically priced. Now you get an 8 core as a baseline processor. Thank you AMD for pushing the competition and power forward for better processors and pricing. I’m not sure processors have ever advanced so fast since the first Ryzen processors came out

It's very hard to support a company that ignores Canada completely, except for their expensive chips... Typical AMD, if you don't have enough of something then don't release it, and if you're going to then make it available. I'll be sticking with Intel, as a lot of other people I know.
It seems to be the trend that AMD is killing it is left to this platform only, haven't met one person that actually prefers to buy AMD or waits for their launches, they buy AMD kus they can't afford Intel...

So just let me get this straight I can go and get 5700x3ddecent Mobo for the same price than the cheapest AM5 x3d CPU and can reuse my old RAM for the price of just the cheapest x3d CPU and I'd lose maybe 15% performance
If AMD keeps the prices so high on AM5 they will never get me to buy into it. And dont start with futureproofing. Actually futureproofing is taking the roughly 300 I save by the before mentioned 5700x3d and putting this into a better GPU right now.

Very niche budget CPU. If anything, these benchmarks show that any gamer should really just save up a little more and get the new 9800X3D which will be way more future proof.
But then again, I think in that segment people will be wondering when AMD will launch a 9850X3D or even a 9950X3D as most people will also want the higher corecount for either videoediting or getting just a bit more out of it by turning off SMT and dedicating cores manually to a degree.

is r6 siege tested on every cpu on the latest build or are some benchmarks old data
because the game runs really bad and you can feel that, i guess that is why all the new chips have very bad 0.1% lows, on this chart the only imo playable on high refresh rate would be intel 13 and 14 gen.
i have a ryzen 7600 now and went from 99th percentile around 200 to 150ish after update, bought a 9800x3d in hopes it would help but I don't think it will.

If you have the time for another deep-dive I'd love to see one into what workloads are sensitive to what specs. For example, it's generally known that Blender likes cores or that FFXIV is sensitive to clocks and cache, but how big are those dependencies and is it possible to fit a simple model to them I feel there could be some surprises in there, and it would be useful for choosing what workloads to test too.

I wish there was a website or app that had all computer parts in it and it would let you mix and match parts in a build to see what will work together and won't work together as well as benefits and maybe negative features of each part. It would be really helpful for those of us capable enough to build a PC but not smart enough to know all the technical side of things like what motherboard is good etc.

I got a 7600x for $150 open box, so I feel pretty ok having bought into the lowest end of am5. It's hard to watch these excellent CPUs come out, but even the 7600x3d is double the price I paid new and doesn't provide double the performance. Hopefully we continue to get decent parts near the end of am5 as well, and maybe even the 9800x3d will become affordable and available a year or more from now

This chip is far more interesting to me than 9800X3D. I care less about peak performance and far more about low wattage, low heat and silent fan curves.
And please, please do mention THIS BABY HAS EMBEDDED GRAPHICS (which is a MEGA-win because you get redundancy, so when your gpu bricks, you can still use your PC)
Shame I'm running AM4 and this is AM5.

King of high-efficiency... But how about low-efficiency, I mean idle power draw Chiplet ryzens have increased power draw in comparison to monolith intels (not sure about their tile-based design) due to data transfers between chiplet and IO die requiring more power.
Someone might be misled into thinking 7600x3d excels in low power home server use case

i think the charts are structured wrong. when u have 450 fps in warhammer 3 1 fps here and there doesnt matter.
you should structure it after 1% lows as thats going to be the most noticable stutter.
1% and 0.1% are far more relevant in performance when its cpu bottlenecked. top fps is more gpu dependent regardless what u pair it with

Really a shame this literally can't be bought anywhere. My only chance of getting an AM5 3D CPU is literally the 9800X3D, which isn't even available in Canada yet (it's on backorder at best buy to ship middle of next month), or paying 200$ MORE for a 7800X3D.
Like... Come on AMD just make your products available I want to gib you my moneyz.

Hi Steve. I’m colorblind and the frequency test where the color of the line for non x3d and x3d looks almost identical. Idk if that a deliberate choice, but if it’s not can you make the color difference from green and yellow cause the line are really small and the only thing that help me I in differentiate between them is your narration

OMG, what an amazing chip efficient and most likely easy to keep cold.
If I was able to get one where I live, Argentina, I would no doubt, saldy this will most like not happend.
Anyways, the 9800X3D was impressive, but this little cpu is amazng. Altough a small price drop would be awesome, considering the price of the mobo and RAM.

This is probably THE chip for 90% of people. Now we just need a graphics card that matches price/efficiency/performance like this does. Can you imagine if it would be possible to build a gamer centric computer for under $1000 that is 80-90% of the performance of top tier and doesn't make my monthly electricity bill crap itself

we dont really sell these naked. most people who buy them are new system builders and almost always get it with a motherboard and ram combo which brings the price up to $450 for a 7600x3d a b650 Tuf plus and 32gb of ddr5 6000 cl 32 which i think makes it an infinitely better value. given its only $50 more than our 7700x bundle

I also bought one of these from the MicroCenter in Charlotte for a gaming centric PC build for my wife. Their bundle deals there with this CPU were to good to justify buying the 7800X3D by itself given the mild performance difference in gaming and then factoring in the mobo and associated parts cost. Great review as always!

As someone not in the US, these micro center exclusives are getting pretty old now. I would have been all over a CPU like this given my budget. When I built my new PC a couple months ago, I wound up having to go with the 7600 because prices in Canada are ridiculous. This one here could have fit the bill perfectly.

In Germany, the 7600X3D has been available on Mindfactory for quite some time now. I was pretty surprised to see it even existed, but did not hesitate to put the X3D into my cart instead of the regular 7600 for my mostly-gaming ITX build. This review gives me further assurance I made the right decision.
