Sponsor: Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut on Amazon https://geni.us/e8Oq & Hydronaut (Amazon) https://geni.us/hOQrBAb Phanteks is releasing its new G400A and G400N cases soon, which aim to be (at cheapest) $100 airflow PC cases succeeding the P400A case. The company also has its new Evolv X2 concept case, a prototype, which is intended to compete in the full glass market. We're most interested in the P400A successor, as the P400A with its full fan configuration was one of the most competitive airflow cases for a long time, but has aged out of direct relevance.

G400A comment...Thanks to you and the GN team for all this great coverage! I've been waiting for your take - and subsequent review - of the G400A. Of all the cases I've seen recently, that's the one that might cause me do an upgrade and rebuild that I absolutely don't need. I built in the 4000D a good while back specifically because of the front grill and filter spacing that you mentioned in this Phanteks discussion. Since we're sort of neighbors you know there's plenty of pollen and dust around here and I could put a 360 CLC in the top of this upcoming offering unlike my old Corsair where I had to settle for a 240. That included filter has trapped a lot of dust that didn't get in my PC. The Lancool 216 was a slight temptation but I didn't want nonstandard fan sizes and a optional filter that was hard to find in stock anyway. The Phanteks G400A looks like a great option and if the upgraded M25 fans are as decent as the old version and if you give that case a positive review this fall or winter I might just pull the trigger - this time with AMD. I always look to GN for advice. Thanks you all so much!

If the Evolv X2 will be anywhere close to $150, i'll buy one as soon as it hits the stores. Paid about 225 for my Evolv X. While i didn't regret buying it, it felt a little overpriced. Still got the case and about to do a custom loop in it. Even still got my Phanteks Enthoo Primo, the original from 2013. The Evolv X2 looks awesome!
Had issues with both cases, the mounting clips for the front panel on the Primo and broken power button on the Evolv X. Both of those issues were caused by user error, i should add. Contacted Phanteks customer support, asking them about spare parts, made them aware that it was user error and that i was willing to pay for the parts. Both times, they sent me spare parts, FREE OF CHARGE, and were very friendly and helpful. That is why, 11 years later, i am still a happy Phanteks customer.

PSU in the front and fans in the back. Interesting design and should help with video card and cpu cooling heatsinks/watercooling. Going too keep an eye out for reviews on that one and some of these other ones. I was kind of hoping that they would update the cooling for the Evolv X. As long as the cooling of the cases can reach the hdd/sdd behind the mobo tray. Really paranoid about the airflow not getting to the side of the case to keep everything cool(er). I really liked the Evolv X design and just wished the airflow was updated only. I can only imagine the price for the X2. Wouldn't pay it any way. Even $200 is too much most of the time. My iron willed budget is $150-$180 at most. Money doesn't grow on trees and the world is in a blender at the moment.

Phanteks LOVE the new case options! For the Evolv X2 I'd love to see black, or a dark grey metal color, instead of the gold. I'd also pay a premium for a metal base, and a metal back panel with fan mounts, even if they are sold separately. I would not buy it if the only option for the base is plastic, and only available with a glass back panel with no side ventilation. The silver or brushed aluminum (hard to tell in the video) is very nice looking and, if there's any way to offer other options for this case, I would definitely buy it. I'm really looking forward to this model! It's been my favorite of everything I've seen thus far from the coverage, if you can offer those additional options. Keep innovating!

I just picked up the NZXT H5 Flow in white, it was on sale for $69 (nice) and I already have 4 140mm bequiet! silent wings fans to throw in it. Plan on doing 2 in the front since that's all it can fit with the toilet bowl fan and one on the top back for extra exhaust than just 1 120mm fan. My budget Zalman case just can't fit the gigantic GPUs anymore so I have no choice to to swap cases and since it went on sale for $30 off I went ahead and grabbed it.
Seems like a fantastic case even by your review (once you slap more fans in it, which I am doing anyway since I already have them) and for $69 (nice again) it seems like an amazing deal.

2:30 as budget as it gets these days
Steve has to take a look at what the case market actually looks like. There's many good cases under $70 that have mesh intakes and decent included fans
Dismissing the pricing of these new cases by trying to make it seem like the market is just like that now is just being disingenuous and making excuses for the manufacturer. Not calling them out for it and not making comparisons to what's already available is why they keep increasing prices
I'd like to see a short segment in these videos where they compare to case prices show on Pcpartpicker

4:03 The air gap between the fans, the nylon filter and the case mesh will mean it will not restrict airflow. A gap makes a huge difference in places like that. What Phanteks did here is THE perfect solution imo. Case mesh will never filter as well as nylon dust filters, so I personally always prefer nylon. And if you do have it with a gap like that, it doesn't matter that you are stacking dust filter and case mesh, because airflow will still be great

$30 for 3 120mm RGB fans that can daisy chain like that Freaking nice. It seems like the common price for that would be $30 for a single fan. Crazy the prices fans have gotten to these days.
The new Evolv case... Looks like an amazing showcase but not great for actual builds. I could see running extra RGB cables and sata cables could be a pain. Really have been hoping they'd do an update of the old Enthoo Evolv. That was such a sick case.

I've always liked the performance of Phanteks' cases, but I've never bought one because I just find them all so _unattractive._ My taste must just be the exact opposite of what their designers aim for. I can ignore an uninteresting box sitting on my desk, but I can't ignore something I just find _ugly._ That prototype is moving in the right direction though, which you'll note looks _nothing_ like anything they've done before.

I absolutely HATE that Evolv X2. Not because it's necessarily a bad case but because I've been waiting years for an Evolv X refresh and this looks nothing like the previous Evolv series, it looks like a coffee machine inside a fish tank. Give us a genuine refresh to the Evolv X (very similar styling and form factor with updated storage and fan mounting options) and call your fish tank case something else.

On the Evolv X2:
- Glass on the front left edge should be curved and without the gap
- Would love to see a wood option for the shroud (the silver/brass one)
- 140mm width for top fans withe the new AIOs where you can hide the tubes
woudlnt mind if this would hike up the price a bit like 200
anyway thats my wishlist for the case but if it stays as is then im gonna pass on this one

Not really a fan of rotating a PSU that was never meant to be positioned in a different orientation - Yes, the style point might be cool, but having the PSU switch easily accessible in case of an emergency IE: Dodgy wiring catching fire, a 12v high power connector catching fire, an NZXT riser catching fire etc is something you definitely don't want to overlook. Safety 1st!

I would really like to see a manufacturer offer a proper ultra-high-end machined aluminum supertower case. I only buy a case once every 15-20 years, so spending the big bucks to get a bespoke artesian build is fine.
I don't want yet another case with flimsy looking panels and plastic accents. Surely a manufacturer is willing to take my money Phanteks, are you listening

For the interconnecting fans. Just make an endcap/cover. So the lip does not stand out too much (max height of the lip) and gives it a cleaner look and may double as cable storage to get some unwanted small cables out of sight.
Package it in the 3er set. Should be cheap and gives the user an option.
If they want to be fancy with it, put RGB in it.

If you are going to put fans on the bottom, then just put the power supply on the top. There is no reason why they are still trying to put in the bottom anymore. The heaviest item is going to be the GPU. It is also the one item that needs cold air more than most in modern gaming. The Torrent is simply killing the competition in noise during gaming.

This is getting boring. Steve moves to the right side of the case, and says if you move to the back. So what is it Is it the right, or is it the back. Functionality Steve is also not showing us the back, sorry, the left of the case. Why It is The most functional part of this case, for the most of us. So why is everybody hiding it
reply

i'm surpised it's taken this long to get interlocking fans that... just use the cables and have a simple locking mech. the other options with pads and bridges always seeed way too over kill, and therefore expensive. this is clean and elegant enough for most use cases. and the little overhang seems mostly likely to not be a factor.

Bought a Phantek once for someone. But all the proprietary connectors and whatever annoyed the crap out of me! Unified standards are what once made the PC a Personal Computer and what made us love building PCs! Don't support those trying to capitalize on abusing us and destroying our passion! I won't buy Phanteks again!

I'm so tired of all these enormous cases. I'd love to see some true mATX form factors but there's just no one operating in that space. For some reason, these companies seem to believe that fitting a large GPU along one axis also means you need to be able to park an aircraft carrier in the same compartment. It's so silly.
reply

The plastic molding around the fans may be to prevent air recirculation but I think it is better for the looks, many cases you can see the frame and screws around the fans from the front and it's not the most aesthetically pleasing unless you want an industrial look. Regardless of the function it is a welcome addition.
