Why people underestimate both this and the 200GE APU's (honorable mention A8-9600? Don't think new games, think about old games and emulators. People who remember the 2007-2012 era: This APU is basically the power of a QX9770 and HD5750/5770 GPU(but with 2GB VRAM) combined, and at the time it could handle any game at 720p (Including Crysis 3, but low settings, still beautiful though. So for 50 you can already game on your PC pretty fine. Mostly old games, but there is a lot of old gems out there that deserve a look. And for those who play PS2 era games, even better, they will run mostly with max settings 1080p 60fps. As a reference of what these APUs can do, my old Q9300 + 5770 + 4GB build did: NFS Pro Street - 1440x900, max settings, avg 60+ fps. Crysis - 1440x900, medium settings, avg 45-50fps(Drop from 30 in super intense scenes(Crysis games are just too heavy(unoptimized, except Crysis 2 can hit 60fps most of the time, Crysis Warhead is the worst) Race Driver: GRID - 1440x900, max settings, avg 60+ fps Dirt 2 - 1440x900, max settings, 4xMSAA, avg 55fps NFS Most Wanted 2012 - 1440x900, medium settings, avg 55fps(few places in the map drop from 30fps, but not a problem with the i3-8145U with iGPU, although running with low settings in 720p) Crysis 3 - 1440x900, medium settings, avg 45fps(drops from 30s in the hardest scenes, again because of weak CPU) Grid Autosport - 1440x900, medium settings. 4xMSAA, avg 55fps(i3-8145U also handles this one but at 1366x766, low settings, CMAA, avg 55fps) Path of Exile - 1440x900, max settings, avg 55fps(drops from 30 in very populated areas such as bases with loads of NPC's) League of legends - 1440x900, max settings, avg 60+ fps(drops from 60 because CPU) Tomd Raider 2013 - 1440x900, medium settings, avg 50fps about emulators: PS1(Gran Turismo) - mostly good apart from slight slowdown in car showroom menus PS1(Road Rash) - flawless PS2(Gran Turismo 4) - Races with AI are very slow, mostly good when doing hotlaps alone, AI sucks anyway. Car showroom is pretty slow. Sega Genesis(Road Rash, Sonic) - no problems great for genesis and DOS, ok for PS1, awful for PS2 emulation(2200G/3200G are recomended.

sooo. talking about a cheap base cpu + ram + mainboard. 3 months ago i wanted to resurrect my old i5-3570k pc with my old 980ti for my old VR oculus rift setup. For mobile VR-party. and not willing to carry around my main rig. But the old mainboard/cpu i5-3570k (lga1155) was somehow dead. worked fine, standing around 1 year. completely dead. and my old budget tv-pc had a pentium g320-something in it, So cpu sockets did not fit for cross checking. So i went and bought a refurb HP complete pc with win10 pro for 160bucks only to rip out the i5-4590 cpu (because that was recommended for the oculus rift) and put it in the mainboard of my tv-pc BECAUSE the cpu alone would have cost more than the complete PC! (almost bought a refurb tower with the same socket i7) Luckily at least both had ddr3, so i kept the 16gb ram. now i wonder how an i7-4790 (lga1150) lenovo refurb tower PC for 270 bucks with a new GPU (2060ti ) would compare to this 3000G + new mainboard + ddr4. that was a complete tower with ram, hdd, cpu, win10 licence, power supply.

This is pretty great for ultra-budget PC's. AVX and that iGpu are a great addition for the money. I think this kind of CPU's are great for beginners. Let's say you don't know pretty much anything about debugging and etc (so you are scared to go the used parts route) and you conclude that you'll buy new parts but you are on a tight budget. What makes it so good is that you will probably be able to swap it for a Ryzen 5 2600 on the cheap side once you build enough confidence/knowledge. Pair it with a RX570/GTX1050Ti or something like that and you just got a cheap gaming rig that will play a lot of games on FullHD. Of course, no amazing FPS or any Ultra settings but hey! You will be able to play decent games, for a very low investment. Great review!

Feel like it also has a place if you are moving from DDR3 to DDR4, like, get B450, 2x4GB of used RAM, keep your old GPU which should be like any random 2GB DDR5 and start saving money for a CPU and GPU upgrade. After that it seems like a reasonable upgrade path to flip the CPU for 30 on ebay or such, in a year or so 3600 will be where 2600 is now and 2600 will be close enough that it looks like a fair offer for a proposed budget. Leaving GPU upgrade last and hoping NAVI will catch up with NVIDIA and bring down it's prices, also, GPU will very likely force you to upgrade PSU. But still it all sounds like a reasonable path of upgrade if you are managing a tight budget.

Not sure why people are talking this CPU up so much. It's 2 cores, 4 threads, and an IGPU. If you are going to get a discrete GPU it is worthless since you should just pay 30 more and get a Ryzen 1600. If you aren't getting a GPU, then a i5 2400, 2500, 3470, 3570, 4600, etc is probably plenty of graphics power as well and then you get 4 cores. Plus, you can probably just find an old office pc or something that someone was gonna throw out for super cheap with these types of parts in it. In short you just go buy old Intel chips or the Ryzen 1600 and you will instantly outperform this cheap in price to performance no matter what you want to do with it.

I'm looking into buy this for a friend for an all new parts build. I'm happy I looked into this because I was going to try to see if he can spend more for a 3200G or 3400G. but he doesn't game! They ryzen apu's don't even look that much faster, I feel better about building out the 3000g now. This guy does not game, does not want to game, he don't care! Would it kill AMD to just TELL US specifically what motherboards work out of the box with this? I had to pick a MSI MAX board so I'm sure, it was a little more expensive than I wanted: ( had to downgrade the case to get into price target

I'm working on an ultra budget HTPC and was going to go with the old 2200G, but tbh this seems more than enough. I'm still using an AMD Turion 64 (from 2008) with a Radeon 5450 (think it's ATI branded) for H. 264 decoding and 4GB of mixed sticks DDR3 on Windows 10. It's for Kodi (not the dodgy version of Kodi, but the proper one for my home library. Not sure what mobo to go with, though perhaps the A320 might work? PS: pls LN2 Steve

In 1997 I was making 40- 60 a week while in high school, I would have totally purchased this to do SOME gaming until I could buy a dedicated GPU. This APU makes the difference between gaming in a couple of months versus a year or so. I wouldn't even think about buying this these days though it is awesome for the people in that kind of financial scenario. Thanks for posting.

Love the data you provide and it helps to make purchase decisions. However, is there any way you can make it readable on mobile? These charts are so tiny that no detail can be seen on my iPhone XS when watching the video. Do we really need the top of the data on this chart to get the point or can you just enlarge and show the bottom half?
