As a moderate custom keyboard enthusiast (joined a handful of group buys) I would say the new cherry switches are interesting in terms of a technical standpoint but not interesting from a hobbyist or enthusiast standpoint. Reason being that due to their SMD mounting it's unlikely thar we will see much support for the switches in the custom scene aside from people that handwire or print their own PCBs for full DIY without a kit. The community has barely even adopted the kailh low profile and previous cherry low profile switches so we probably won't be seeing any real use outside of OEMs using it for the described keyboards within the video. It will be interesting to see because cherry basically has stopped trying to reinvent the wheel with the cherry mx standard size and pinout style of switch so I would assume a majority of their R&D being in developing a new standard of profile.
This is just my personal opinion and speculation.

i tried Cherry and random cheap switches and currently on Razer's green switches i still think cherry is the standard to beat like noctua is for fans and coolers .. i think the feel and sound of those i tried vs. cherry is very good .. but see how long they last hehe , so far the only thing ive been sad about was logitech switches .. maybe it was the type .. but they was the only switch i felt wrong about .. and they was mounted bad .. i had to pull out a key to clean it .. ripped the entire switch out , and its not like i was prying it out with a crowbar just normal pull it out , only keyboard i tried it with and also why i never gotten a logitech keyboard since ,, love logitech mouse i use one now ,, so only keyboard for me is a no go .. but other switches i would say are very nice

Not the biggest keyboard enthusiast, but I'm waiting for the low-profile mechanical keyboard trend to settle down a bit before jumping in and picking one out to buy. The current ones available are just way too expensive and I have no idea if it's any good. Logitech in recent years have been unjustifiably experimental with the hardware they put in their keyboards lately and it makes me really hesitant. And for the market in general, I feel like they're just expensive because there aren't alternatives. While Cherry's may also come out as expensive too, I hope it reviews well and it'll at least push the other players to not ridiculously overprice from the lack of competition.
So yeah, that was interesting news.

Cherry switches are very common and widely available due to their low cost. That being said, cherry switches are NOTORIOUS for being some of the lowest quality switches you can get. Cherry MX switches are very scratchy and have very unstable/wobbly stems. Cherry clones like gateron are SIGNIFICANTLY smoother and stable and this is without lubing. Lubing cherry switches is imperative if you want to get the most out of them. Gateron switches don't need lubing unless you absolutely want to. Gateron black ink switches with lube are some of the silkiest switches I've ever used.

imo cherry has a problem, analog switches have around 16ms to 30+ms latency.
razer unironically have the best gaming mouse/keyboard right now with their optical switches/8k polling rate, they have an avg of 0.5 ms latency - source rtings
The sensor in their mouse is also the best with 8k polling rate again - source sensor. fyi
16+ ms is almost noticeable, especially in ping diff situations.
like if you have avg 53ms ping - you also have 16+ ms input lag with analog switches
That's not nothing, that could change outcomes in some high movement based fps games

I'm not even THAT much of a keyboard enthusiast: I'm not building my own keyboard or swapping out switches regularly, but I'm excited about the low pro switches. I'm old enough (and have a toddler) to where I don't want an ultra loud clickity clack when I type and I don't know what happened, but over the years keyboards (and mice) have gotten too damn big. I use a Logitech G915 despite not wanting a wireless keyboard because it's the only modern keyboard that doesn't put my wrist at a right angle while trying to type on it.

Just get a seasonic prime series 1300 watt Gold or Platinum PSU and be done with it. Its 100-150 dollars cheaper than any Corsair, Asus or MSI version of its own product . The concept has been the same for the past decade and a half and Seasonic has mastered transient response and power delivery for years now. Don't fall for the fancy marketing just because power usage is in the light again.
