New Wilderness Off Grid Cabin, Milling Lumber, Building an Outhouse and a Ladder

Spring has arrived at my wilderness homestead! I start building an outhouse with lumber milled from trees on my property, I make a wooden ladder out of saplings and I explore the creek as the last of the ice melts off the beaver ponds. MARLENE: I've seen someone who used a galvanized garbage can with the bottom cut out, set under the seat of the outhouse. He somehow connected under the bench in case he had to move the outhouse to a new location. It helped to keep the hole from caving in. Once finished it looked better than many indoor bathrooms I've seen. Lol. All the comforts of home in any community. Nice work.

We had such warm beautiful weather yesterday that I got my small garden worked up & planted. didn't water the seeds but woke up this morning to light showers of rain. I love it when I can plant seeds at the right time to not have to water. watching you working & getting things started around your new homestead inspires me & I'm sure many others to do something useful whether big or small so thank you. the way I see it - if the black flies & mosquitoes & deer flies come out early, my work is done (at least for now). lol. Have a great weekend Shawn & enjoy the sunshine if you get any - they're predicting rain for the week, they've been wrong many times before. lol. Looks like Cali has found her new location most enjoyable - wherever you go, whatever you do, she right by your side.

I recognize the sound of the Estwing hammer. 'PING. my crew give me a hard time. they use Steletto hammers. LOL
Do you filter the water you drink or purification tablets? One would think there my be beaver up stream. Beaver Fever/Giardiasis is no joke?
Whats the maximum length your saw mill can cut. Looks to be about 10 to 12'? you can get extensions for your mill. but then you would need some type of loader to get the longs on the track.
Its nice to see progress, you seem to be enjoying yourself.

Will you be building this cabin a bit larger? Seems the first was a nice size but perhaps your wife has some design requests. I know for certain it will be soundly built and absolutely lovely upon completion. Looking forward to seeing the creation. Oh and the place you are building at is absolutely beautiful, the trees and the water running near it is just so peaceful.

That site gives you a interesting opening, Under every wheather it will offer a nice perpective.
When sky will be clear, and you will have the full moon, you will get that nice light reflecting
on this the bottom ot the small valley. It will be quite cool, you will have all kinds of animal
sightings going for a little creek taste.

As much as I like watching the bush skills, I am super excited to see power tools being employed. You do so much work and for your health, I think this will enable you to get so much more done with the similar physical effort exerted. Far more sustainable for you with modern tools in your hands. Congrats.

Good morning.
I got all happy when I saw your video come up.
That sawdust is going to come in handy.
Nice building. The scenery shots are really beautiful and the animals are beautiful. Thank you. It's good to see Cali. Be well. Be blessed.

Hello Shawn,
Nice work there with the outhouse Being a bit of a city slicker myself I was wondering if it is customary to plant some highly aromatic plants near the outhouse to help with odour control in the summer months.
Take care.
Paul,

You would be so far ahead with cordless power tools. why not! you charge your go-pros and your drone why not power tools. And yes i have seen your vids on self reliance but when your trying to put a new roof over your head in only a few months.
