simplelife Lifting the 17' log purlins into place alone proves to be difficult but manageable. I notch the gable ends to fit the purlin logs into place and then nail on full dimension 2'x4'x10' rough cut boards that I'll cut down to about 8' once they're all in place. Rather than cut down 70 saplings for rafters or ripping my stock of logs into lumber, I go into town to the mill to pick up cheap pine boards that I haul back to the cabin with the snowmobile. For dinner, I cook up a large lake trout that I caught earlier in the week, frying it along with vegetables the first night and then making a spicy stew with the leftovers. Breakfast is the usual high calorie winter meal - bacon, avocado, cheese and eggs, quail eggs on the first morning and organic chicken eggs the following morning. Lunch is off camera, venison jerky like usual

Love seeing books I have also read on your bookshelf. Always dreamed of building a traditional cabin but with 7 kids it wasn't in the picture. Spent my entire career though in the construction field. Bought our first house for 28k, lived in it for 5 winters with no central heat except a coal stove on which we heated bath water. Finished that on sold if for a sizeable profit and bought 3. 5 acres and built the home we were in for 30 years raising those kids. That home ended up around 4000 sf and the land and additions and out buildings were a great school for the kids as we cleared land, pulled stone and built dry stack stone walls. Sold that house 10 years ago now. Bought one out in Utah on a small lot, finished the basement, built sheds, greenhouse, workshop and office. Finished basements for our kids out here and built the last full size house for my daughter at 67. At 71 Finally getting around to the Cabin up at 9000', a mix of timber frame and standard stick framing. Using all metal on the exterior. Not large at 1200sf but big enough for kids and grandkids who are all assisting in the build. Love watching you videos and already have ideas for out buildings and ice fishing on the lake below us. Keep up the good work.

The presentation of unknown observation requires the skill of knowing the mentality of what another accepts as inviting. The interest of a hobby or a business most often occurs during periods of doing something one may have never considered as optional. A life changing chapter of high interest to captivate the audience who may be categorized as a low probability circumstance statistic according to standards of a One Way psyche or a fear of secure situations no longer existing. The acclimation of zero dark thirty intersecting with the stone being rolled from the cave type ideology as one rise from the ashes of burial as a true achiever with investment capability salvaged through multi source asset production. Thoughts?

Hi Shawn, I realize this request is about a year past due but I had to try. I was very interested in the leather coffee mug holder. Not because of the item itself but because your videos have helped impact my life in such a positive way. You have identified issues that have caused me significant depression and how to perhaps resolve it. The cup holder is more of a reminder to keep trying to get better. I'd really love to have that daily reminder if you happen to still have one. If you could let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.

My Self Reliance Coffee Mug. I know I am late, but. watching all your building cabin videos, and I always thump up, and share, and since your sauna heater is Finn Made Halko, and sauna is a Finnish invention=, we have more than million saunas in Finland, I think I deserve one of those mugs, here in Florida, where I lived now since 1985! Thanks again for you videos, keep them up, and enjoy your wonderful life. full+) Eero from Lantana, Florida

Lots of baby leaf spinach, and other veg too. Healthy. Is the new cabin bigger than the one you live in, Shawn? I can't wait to see the finished product. I guess, this one will be even more awesome than the other one? Lesson's learned with the first build can be executed on this one, eh?

Unfortunately too far away in Africa for that My self Reliance coffee mug. But you are an inspiration love all that beautiful work you are doing and one day it's my dream to build a similar log cabin home in the jungl here.

Esthetic BIG mistake in the front ( top of the door ): the 2 side logs( roof) running from the back to the front are not on the same front horizontal log: the left is higher than the right log!

Shawn, I know you feed Cali, but I never see her eating other than a bone now-n-then and licking your plate off. So what do you feed her and how many times a day does she eat?

Ah Ravens. My favorite bird. Another great video Shawn. I find work like you are doing there very therapeutic, It's hard, but you get a rhythm going, and it gets done.
