Mushroom HUNTING in the FOREST at the Off Grid LOG CABIN

I visit the original cabin site from winter 2017 and dig out the logs from the undergrowth. We forage for more wild mushrooms and hike around the forest for small game - simple cabin life. Our dog, Cali the golden retriever, steps on one mushroom for every one we actually collect

From what little I know about edible mushrooms, they are mother natures most abundant source of Vit-D, which is very good news for northlanders as they don't get as much Sun-derived Vit-D as do southerners. Vit-D is very important for skeletal & immune health. On a bad side-note, unfortunately wild mushrooms can also contain high amounts of harmful radioactive isotopes like strontium 90, cesium 137, and Iodide. Wild boars in Germany's black forest were found to contain very high amounts of radiation from eating mushrooms contaminated by the Chernobyl fallout which winded south & westward across Europe.

Hi Shawn, I've been watching your videos for some time now, and I have to say that I have enjoyed watching you put your cabin together, and many times I wished I could have been there to help. I also wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you bringing up and to the forefront the issue of mens health. If I can ever find my way to your neck of the woods I would like to drop in some time maybe cook a steak dinner and a cup of joe (coffee. You're doing a great job, please keeping making the videos.

I never get tired of watching your videos. Mushrooms? When I was a kid I used to forage these in my village back in the Philippines. The wild mushrooms grow once a year so its like rare find every time I can find a bunch of it growing on a hill or under the bushes.

Beautiful scenery. I live in Michigan and always loved going camping in St. Ignace. My kids loved swimming in the lake at the state park. Such sweet memories. Thank you for the calming views Shawn.

Enjoyed this video in particular because plan to take mushroom identification class. Also interested in learning about foraging for food in the wild. Think western NC is great area to do this.

I wonder if we have something that here in manitoba. The varity of edible mushrooms, plants, berries that can be eaten if we only know the safe ones from the non edible plants

The black trumpet mushrooms are really good for drying out and persevering, do it every year and use in my cooking through out the year, great for pasta and sauces.

Hey Shawn, don't stress. So glad you took a spell. Would love to visit Lake Superior. My favourite author Scott Sigler based a novel in the area. Sounds awesome!
