In this episode of the forest kitchen, I make a primitive earthen oven for pizza and bread baking using mud, a adobe mixture of clay, sand and grass knows as cobb or cob - primitive technology. The outdoor kitchen at the off grid log cabin is just about ready to start using for all of my meals, from grilling on the barbecue and frying on the rocket stove to baking in the oven, I can cook full meals, process wild game and fish and wild edibles that I harvest from the surrounding wilderness. In episode 11 next week, I build the roof over the primitive oven and shingle it with cedar shingles, and start hollowing out the earthen oven, removing the sand form

I'm sorry to hear about your Great Aunt's death. When my Grandad died (he was actually my great-grandfather, the sorrow I had was that I wasn't old enough to get to know him as an adult while I did know him -I was in my 20's or early 30's when he died, and he was up in Alaska, so I didn't get to see him very often. He had lived to be 93 yrs old, and had lived a very full life - I know he used to walk and hunt all over Alaska in the many years that he lived there, and he loved to travel as well. He loved people and to tell a good story. :D He loved people and loved life.
It seems the weather was contriving to fight you, so I'm glad you got to spend time with your family. I bet you told lots of great stories about Gloria, and had many a laugh, as well as a few tears, in the telling.

I can't tell you how much I love that you're hunting partner is a Golden. Mine was and will forever be. Highly underrated in the field these days. Nothing like the disposition at home and the Golden Nose in the field. They are worth every burr and sticker you have to comb and pick out of them. Beautiful!

If you wear a bandana around your forehead it absorbs the sweat and keeps you cool. it's called evaporative cooling which we in Arizona use all summer to cool our homes. Works excellent! and when it's not humid. wet the bandana and wear it on your head. again, evaporative cooling!

One thing's fer sure - you don't have to worry about climbing up on what you build - it's SOLID!
I didn't know you could use green grass for the cob. I thought it had to be dry. Let me keep watching, you may dry it.
EDIT: Oh, OK, I see what you did.

Hi, Mr. Shawn, your videos are so very inspiring, encouraging, as well as enjoyable and educational. The nature is such an amazing work and tremendous treasure from God, and living in it is living a life much richer than any billionair. Thanks a lot.

I thought maybe the reason you were having difficulty with the oven hanging together was not enough clay in the mix. Even when you were patting it it had a wet sand sound. so if you end up down the road doing it again, maybe try for more clay?

I love the depth and complexity of your thought process.
I have to say I laughed out loud when I saw you take your shoes off and jump around in the mud.
Im pretty sure thats the only time Ill ever get to see you dance! Ha ha

Have you ever tried making your own cement? All you need to do is bake some limestone (calcium carbonate) for a few hours. turns into calcium oxide. calcium oxide reacts with water making calcium hydroxide (i. e lime mortar.

Thanks for the videos. At minute 15: 51 you use a cloth with handles. You use that in a lot of your videos. What is the name of this means of transport? Manufacturer?
I would appreciate an answer.
best regards
