Somchai Pochana ) is a restaurant located in the tiny town of Chumpuang (, near Khorat in the province of Isaan. On the same visit as the vlog I made about visiting Chumpuang (, we also ate at this wonderful restaurant. Isan (also known as Isaan) is well known throughout Thailand for its delicious food. Perhaps the most famous dish is som tam, or green papaya salad, but there are so many more dishes than just that. Sticky rice is the staple for Isaan food, and it goes so well, dipping bites of sticky rice into sauces and dressing while youre eating. The first dish I ate at this restaurant is called oo plia, and I know the description of the soup might not sound too good, but basically its uncleaned intestines from the cows, that are boiled and made into a soup. The soup then included a bunch of different beef pieces, mostly trip, and pieces of actual meat, and a lot of chilies and herbs to complement it. It was quite an interesting soup, the flavor was mostly meaty beefy. However, the more I ate it, and getting to the bottom of the soup, it started getting extremely bitter, almost medicine like. It was pretty intense, and while I did like it, it got harder and harder to eat more towards the bottom of the bowl. Next up I had tom pla neen, a boiled tilapia fish in an outstanding soup made from lots and lots of herbs like lemongrass, galangal, shallots, and plenty of dry chilies. The fish was then topped in a huge handful of fresh green onions and cilantro to give the soup an amazing flavor. Probably my favorite Isan food of our meal at Somchai Pochana ) was this dish. We also ordered an Isan dish called koy neua suk, which is similar to the more common lab (or larb, which is a Thai meat salad. You can order it raw, but we got ours cooked. It was mostly a combination of beef, cooked, and seasoned with lime juice, fish sauce, and chilies. It was fantastic. Somchai Pochana ) is just a very local Isan food restaurant in the countryside of Isan, but they serve some delicious food. The

Mark, the Hmong has a soup called quav iab which literally translates to bitter poop. It's very similar to the dish you just consumed and contains beef, beef organs, coagulated blood, tripe, galangal, lemongrass, different herbs, and. yes, bile from a freshly slaughtered cow. Hmong food is hugely influenced by Lao and Thai food so I'm sure it's just a variation of the dish. I just love it Although when we make it, we do cook the bile to kill bacteria before flavoring the soup. And our soup isn't very bitter.

hi mark awesome looking food. I like the little patch of grass description for the tripe lol. I would be skipping the grass, but everything else especialy the smoked catfish salad looked great. and that restaurant talk about off the beaten path, looked so cool. great job once again thx: )

I like Isan food but the type of food you were eating is kind of scary to me especially the beef soup. When it come to tripe I prefer Mexican red menudo instead. I do enjoy your food adventures, please keep them coming. You and your wife are doing excellent job.

I hear a lot about Isaan recently. Everybody says it's one of the nicest regions in Thailand and absolutely worth visiting because it's off the beaten track and people are even friendlier there (and the food is awesome as well of course, is that true?

I just came back to BKK after spending the last week visiting a family friend in Nakhon Rachisima. A lot of the food was good but I ended up getting sick from one of those hole in the wall Isaan restaurants. SIgh.

Can we get a tour of 7-11? I've noticed in a few videos a 7-11 in the background & I'm sure I am not the only one who is curious to see what 7-11's have to offer in other countries.

I think this is the first video where you haven't added chili or lime to the food. I didn't even see condiments on the table. Was the food just that good? It looked it.

Although I like your passion for food and your sincere enthousiasm, I don't think those organs & blood appeal very much to me. Does it really to you?
