This old-fashion buttermilk pie is one of my mother's favorites. Today, I am going to share her recipe for an amazing homemade buttermilk pie. The old-school pie crust recipe I will be using yields an amazingly flaky, tender crust. INGREDIENTS 3 large eggs 1 1/2 cups buttermilk 1 cup sugar 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour 2 Tbsp melted unsalted butter 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1/8 tsp nutmeg 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional) 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust The Flakiest PIE CRUST Ever! 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp salt 1 Tbsp sugar (optional) 3/4 cup CRISCO shortening 3 to 4 Tbsp ice cold water Makes a thick 9-inch deep dish pie crust How To Make PIE From Scratch EASY PIE Recipe for beginners

I love this! My grandma made the BEST pies, and her crust was the exact same Crisco recipe. I rarely eat the crust from store bought pies because I can't stand how hard, chewy, and thick are. We just had a bday for 2 family members, and one doesn't do cake, so we bought a pie, and I asked if anyone wanted my crust. They gasped and said, You don't like the crust Well, not this crust because my grandma made the lightest, flakey, and yummiest crust and this one is dense, heavy, and tastes freezer burnt.

Buttermilk pie is my favorite pie! When I make it I add all of the ingredients to a blender - wet stuff first then dry stuff so it won’t stick to my blender. Works very well! Yours looks amazing too!

What an awesome way to make pie dough. I have heard of buttermilk pie, but I never eaten it. Looks delicious.
Have you ever heard of tomato pie or oatmeal pie Old southern pies. Thanks, Mama.

This looks very delicious. I will definitely try making this. Looks very comforting. But I have a couple of questions. Could it be topped with whipped cream Or is it better to leave any topping out

My favorite pie, my wife makes me one every year for my birthday. Hers has some lemon, and she dusts it with powder sugar and blueberries. Don't ever see it where I'm from otherwise.

Your crust looks fabulous! I will have to try the spray bottle trick. I have made buttermilk pie for years. Never too old to learn a trick or two. Thanks for a great video.

I have a very old cook book that suggests using your clean fingers to mix in the shortening and flour--as the warmth of your fingers makes it a lighter fluffier crust.

One of the best pastry crusts i used included shortning, baking powder combined with the flour as well as ice water as needed. Recipe was on a can of HEB shortning

Home ec class is severely underrated. Without it I wouldn't have learned even half of the life skills taught to me. That pie looks so good!
