Spicy Lettuce Noodles - Food Wishes

These spicy lettuce noodles are easy to make, very delicious, and feature a very interesting and unique textural combination of crunchy and soft lettuce, which might sound weird, but tastes wonderful. The lettuce contributes a subtle bittersweet flavor, which marries perfectly with the sweet, salty, spicy noodles.

omg I have some salad in the refri that I have to eat by tomorrow, I'll try this recipe tomorrow! ANd btw I tried your olive mashed potatoes. AMAZING. its my new favorite.
Edit: 17 hours later, I made this dish, used garlic, onions and bell peppers (tricolor) only had soy sauce, fish sauce and sweet-chili-sauce, white sugar and grounded cilantro. no salt no nothing, tasted amazing!

I've been making some variation of this dish ever since the pandemic started and I switched to working from home. I can make it in just 15 min and use whatever greens I have in the house so it's my go to lunch. It's interesting to see Chef John's version here. and now I'm reminded that I'm out of Tamarin paste.

Yummy, I have soba noodles I am going to try this week. I am ordering Sarachi sauce now. I was shocked I had run out. I have the rest ingredients. Now I know what to do with any lettuce I need to use up. Thank you, Sir. Have a nice day everyone.

Love hot dressings! Eat half (i. e. make double) and chill the rest of the noodles with a little sesame or olive oil, and pick up one or two bagged lettuces on the way to work tomorrow for lunch. Can't wait to retire

Hello Chef John, I really like your recipes and your sense of humor.
Now, Fish sauce, what it can be replaced with, since my son has shell fish allergy
Thanks again for your videos.

Chef John always delivers. I love this technique of wilting greens with hot noodles. Also what a great way to combine lunch options if you have some leftovers from the night before.

I've seen fried rice using a similar method, only they add the lettuce to the wok and toss it for the wok hei. Either way, this is proof you CAN cook lettuce. Well done, Chef!

oh dang. this looks like you are building your own sweet chili sauce, and using sambal as the backbone. that is a GREAT idea. i need to be doing that on my own i think.

Put out a cookbook already. I know you might need to do them in volumes but hey I’m a huge fan for years. I would buy all of them. Another great delicious recipe

Love your recipes, John, but too many recipe-specific ingredients. Sambal Tamarind paste What will we do with the leftover $15 we just spent on those Keep it simple.

I know there's chili paste and Sriracha in it, but I think that's the first non-desert recipe I've ever seen that didn't have sprinkle of Cayenne in it!

Is there any way to preserve fish sauce It turns bad in the fridge pretty quickly, but I'm a one-person household and I won't use it that often.

Thank you Chef John! What an easy dish. Have to modify that heat level for wimpy me! Love this recipe! Have a feast of a weekend!

Am I the only person on earth who doesn't care for sriracha I love hot sauces but out of all of them it's near the bottom of my list.

Helen Rennie made a great video called Why is Restaurant Lettuce So Much Better, going to use those techniques with this recipe!

This was great, I am going to do this but, on the Tai side. add some ginger, red or green Tai curry and yup, shrimp.
