Fallout 76: The best and worst things from 3 hours of gameplay

Discussing Fallout 76's leveling, multiplayer gameplay, and robot NPCs with senior reporter Owen Good, who was able to spend three hours with the game I love making character builds and exploring, and Fallout 4 got very stale for me, to the point every time I itched to make a new character or build I got bored 30 minutes in. I'm patient enough to wait for Fallout 5 for some innovated graphics and storytelling, but for now I'll happily sink a couple of dozen or even hundred+ hours into a game with a huge map and what sounds to be quite extensive loot farming. I can tell for sure I'm going to enjoy this game, and whilst I understand people concerns, I think a lot of the negativity surrounding this game is by whiners who can't handle the fact this is a spin-off and an experiment, not a sequel.

This game looks sweet. I loved grinding the Preston Garvey quests in FO4 so I-m glad every quest in this game is similar to that. I also never liked NPC's in NV or FO4, I'm so glad they completely removed them from the game. Plus, everyone raved about how fun settlement building/ base building was in FO4 so I-m glad they added even more of it in this game. Always felt that the RPG elements were too complicated in other Bethesda games which is why I'm glad they toned it way down. Also, I'm ecstatic they are using the same game engine as before, I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it. Keeping VATS was definitely a great idea in that it appears to work flawlessly which pleases me greatly. In addition they also made the game entirely online which definitely adds to the experience, I always felt while playing other Bethesda games, wouldn't it be cool to have a bunch of people doing emotes and talking down the mic while I'm listening to holotapes, it will really add to the gritty and dark atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world.

My problem is that it just doesn't feel like roleplaying my character if she's not making an impact on towns and factions and groups of people, or at least making NPC friends as companions, you know? This is more like one of those exploratory Hunger Games fan spinoffs--some of those were very well made, but they weren't the same as the kind of roleplaying I like to do with Fallout games. This will be more of a Minecraft kind of thing for me. Something to do when I'm up for a mindless craft project, or something to mess around with some friends in for a while, but I just love characters too much to get super into it, I think.

This is something I think Bethesda has messed up even worse than fallout 4. In fallout 3, the d-pad was your weapon wheel, you had 8 choices of weapons. Fallout 4 took a less expedient way of choosing weapons with multiple d-pad presses which was frustrating when first playing but I got used to it, but still an inferior system. Now we have a weapon wheel which is even slower, so we can use the d-pad for emotes! Emotes are useless in a game where you can talk to each other. Seems like a waste if better options just to include emotes that most people hardly use anyway.

Im worried about the content being torn through too quickly. People who think they-re being lazy need to understand though. they said in interviews months ago that it would basically be a fallout 4 multiplayer component but with a new map so they-re not trying to fool anyone. They-re experimenting with this and its a good thing to have. Now whether it-ll hold we-ll see.

It-s not a traditional fallout don-t expect it to be honestly I can-t wait to play the game bugs and all ima enjoy it with my friends that said the only true problem I have is the pvp pussy tip toeing like Bethesda please just make true pvp servers you can keep what you have now but go and make true pvp servers all loot drop on death any one can kill any one etc

It doesn't know what it wants to be, a MMORPG without all the MMORPG elements, or a single player RPG without allt he elements of a single player RPG. So it will be worse than both. -Fallout with freinds. - Who cares? This is basically their attempt at making fallout 4 multiplayer and packed at a $60 price tag for a watered down game.

I find anybody claiming to have any gameplay as sketchy, tbh. -Q: WHEN DOES THE B. E. T. A. START? A: The B. E. T. A. begins first on XBox One one Tuesday, October 23, and on PlayStation 4 and PC on October 20. The B. E. T. A. can only be accessed by players who pre-ordered Fallout 76 from participating retailers. - - Bethesda. net

Looks painfully boring, with no player choice, and even less rpg elements than fallout 4. Not to mention the main quest is literally following audio logs from one to the next firing at ghouls and robots. Seriously don-t know why anyone at Bethesda thought this would be a good idea. Smh

I'm okay with how they handle VATS. I' m gonna play on PC I'm pretty confident I won't need the assist, but they could tailor specific cards that could give a damage multiplier or add some extra effect like increased chance for limb damage, etc. to make me consider using it from time to time.

I find it hilarious that this game is for people who liked all the worst parts of Fallout 4. Which, y'now, that's fine, at least Bethesda isn't pretending like they're making -RPGs- anymore. Enjoy the terrible shooting in their frankestein engine and doing the same shit over and over.

Please bring back your previous funny videos. I could get this content anywhere. Yes, I am speaking to the Suits higher up. I will be unsubscribing because these video essays do not interest me. I know this sounds hoity-toity and whiny but I want to make my intent CRYSTAL clear.

This might end up being a fun game but it is not going to have the replay value of fo3 or new vegas even. The thing that still has me coming back to these games is the npcs. A decade later and im still finding lines of dialoge that are new to me and legitimately interesting or funny.
reply

If there was an actual story it might have been interesting but from what I've seen its just going to be tedious grinding with some lore pasted around the map. Why bother emphasizing teamplay if the only thing to do is going around shooting shit and building your character for PVP.
reply

This was a pathetic battle royal cash grab by Bethesda. Yeah let's all run to the goodies before everyone else, no this game was not thought out, never trust big business, have you gamers got the shit figured out or are you just as intelligent as NASA monkey's pushing buttons.
reply

There were so many robots in Fallout 4 that had actual names and personalities to them, that I really don't want to see anymore of em. This game seems interesting and I wanna give it a try, but at the same time I just can't see myself enjoying it in the long run.

Here's a different opinion than most other in this comment section: I am willing to look past the things Fallout 76 doesn't have compared to the other Fallout games, it's not a main Fallout game, it's a spinoff. So I won't treat it like a main Fallout game.

Looks like some experiment with lazy copy paste of assests, abolished npc, primitive generic story and other -joys- of modern gaming. Profit will be greater if you almost do not spend on development. And dont forget our new shiny currency in ingame store!

Honestly I want Red Dead Redemption 2 more but I can only offend to get one of them and all my friends want to play this one simply because of the bethesda brand. So I guess I'm gonna have to play this for a while. Hopefully its more fun with buds.

Seems like a more boring borderlands with some PvP thrown in. I didnt enjoy borderlands and Im normally not self motivated enough to progress in games without story. All of this combined with the lack of Steam support lesds to a hard pass.

This game looks like it needs a lot of work in the way of balancing. The level 50 scorchbeast should be able to take out a level of 5's no problem. This game is gonna be, interesting. I am a little scared and a little excited at the same time.
reply

People keep saying there are non-human NPCs, but are they real npcs? Do they have branching dialogue like NPCs in every other RPG, or are they just givers of MMO-style-quests? I suspect the later, but I would like confirmation.
reply

Here we have the last dlc from fallout 4 --- but one thing, they baned dismemberment from the game? In the showoff there was, like in fallout 4 but i dont see it anywhere, the enemy just die and no gore or anything -
reply

What I'll never understand about this spin off game is why the hell did they incorporate -perk cards-? Such a confusing system that is just not needed. They could have easily taken the destiny route with find better gear.
reply

I was actually nervous about trying 76 and wasn't very interested in it initially but after watching this I really think I want to give it a try! Thank you so much for this honest, to-the-point review.
reply

No NPC interaction, graphics that look like a 2011 XBox 360 game, and what looks like a complete inability to stay at 30FPS for longer than thirty seconds- this game is gonna be a complete flop.
reply

What's the point of even having perks if you can just constantly change everything with no losses? Oh, probably so they can sell perk cards as DLC. Have fun having your wallets emptied Fallout76 players.
reply

Wait, why is this the first green Fallout game! This should be the dead-est fallout game, 20 years there may still be significant fallout. The 200 year ones should be back to green.
reply

Wow. So this is going to completely suck for anyone who liked to roam around solo and do their thing without being bothered by anyone. Why would they make such a huge departure.
