Russ Spends $20 in LoL vs. $20 at the Dollar Store - PAY TO WIN

Russ purchased $20 worth of in-game content in League of Legends. Could I recreate something of equal (or greater) value with regular household items and cheap party favors? That-s what I set out to discover

I like Russ' creation better than the original Teemo because - and this is an assumption so I might be way off-base re: the artist's intent - I would not be yelled at viciously by strangers if I decided to pick it up and start playing with it without doing extensive research on its optimal use beforehand

I like the concept of the show, maybe like do a comparison of utility gained from each purchase. If the teemo skin made you happy, but buying a submarine sandwich for the same price made you even happier, maybe you should compare that. After that is where value comes from.
reply

Teemo has a passive ability where he turns invisible; Russ should've just pocketed the $20, then pointed at the empty space on the table. -I made a Teemo, you just can't see him. -
You blew it Russ. That's $20 you'll never get back.

oh man, i really have enjoyed polygon's video output recently. i'm about to say something so typical, but yeah. i wish they were getting the millions of views that others are getting. but seems like they're on the up and up?

You could spend 20 bucks on in-game skins and characters, or you could spend 20 bucks recreating that character with stuff from the dollar store.
Or you could spend like 30 and get a plush made on Etsy or whatever.

reply

Why-s it called -pay to win- if this online purchase doesn-t really help you win? I guess you technically can buy champions, but you also unlock them without needing money. Teemo is easy to get.
reply

Why does this dollar store have things at literally any price point? The whole deal with a dollar store is that everything is supposed to be (at the very least CLOSE to) a dollar.
reply

hey not to be That Guy but this is super wasteful and it'd be Super Super cool if polygon tried to be more environmentally conscientious in a more pronounced way
reply

russ you could have bought felt, needles, thread and a little book of simple patterns and you could have sewn yourself a little doll of teemo
reply

I expected this video to be more like. -can I buy things that I find to be more valuable than the digital items at the dollar store-.
reply

Ha! This should be a regular series!
What should you spend your money on: arts and crafts supplies or a skin on a video game?

reply

So, I take umbrage with your use of the phrase -dollar store-. Every dollar store I've been to, things only cost a dollar.
reply

Please make this a regular series. It is giving me life in all the right ways. It is the light we need in these trying times.
reply

i love this and i think i really need some more of it in my life. take your time of course, but this idea is gold.
reply

Coulda just bought a minion figure cause both them and teemo are just different representations of Satan, imo.
reply

What do League of Legends players and DotA players have in common?
They both hate League of Legends.

How is it the Dollar Store if nothing is a buck? a few things cost more. but not that many items!
reply

I had to do something very similar to this in an upper level college class. we only got 10 dollars tho
reply
