DAUNTLESS Iron Hammer Gameplay: Hunting the Pangar

DAUNTLESS Iron Hammer Gameplay: Hunting the Pangar

Check out over 10 minutes of gameplay from upcoming Monster Hunter-like action RPG Dauntless, where we hunt the Pangar using the Iron Hammer The music is just terrible. The characters dont have any voices, we need to hear when they get hurt, or when they are attacking, or dodging. and the noise that the weapons make isnt helping either. Basically, the biggest problem here. is the music and sound. Another thing. it makes the game less challenging if you can revive like an idiot everytime someone dies. Whats the point if you have like infinite lives until you kill the thing and you respawn in the same place? Healing when you have your weapon out is not a challenge either. The speed of using items is too fast, and it doesnt give a chance to the monster to hit you, so. not a challenge again. This game is not going to success if you try to help the player in every aspect. if they dont make this changes. too many people is going to get bored with this game, and it will be another fail MH like game.\r\n

Okay, am I missing something? This video looked slow, clumsy and boring as hell. The only thing I like about is is the 3D engine looks good and runs well. But the game is too slow. Enemy A. I. doesn't seem to be too smart or aggressive. Look, why are we even screwing around with suspect derivatives? Capcom needs to stop being assholes and just release Monster Hunter XX for Switch and call it a day. Sony could also act like they have a pair and make a new Soul Sacrifice or commission a new Freedom Wars. Even God Eater has some cool things with it even if the art direction is on the weaker side. -Hannibal is awesome though. I love fighting that bastard.
If worse comes to worse, Capcom can suck it and I'll just buy Toukiden 2 in March and be happy. I won't be supporting Dauntless unless they can come better than this.

Everyone who is saying this game lacks potential, this game is in early testing and is still being worked on. It looks choppy because it's not in a clean spot. Everyone's so used to playing games that are at full gaming playability. This game, currently, is not. Also, this game already looks pretty good, even when it's: 1. in early testing, and 2. Free to Play. People keep forgetting that this game is free to play, and that most games don't even come close to looking this fantastic as a free to play. It already some what resembles Monster Hunter, and the gameplay is smooth like Monster Hunter. No, it's not a Monster Hunter copy, not at all. What I'm getting at is, don't judge the damn game, if you haven't played it yet, or if you haven't seen it's full potential.

You would think after using so many potions and revives they would try to implement rewarding players for continuing to fight with low health as a way to save resources and supplies. Maybe something like an enmity stat (less health, more damage dealt) for certain equipment/characters.
Also is it that hard to dodge? Knowing the generic hammer users for their slow action animations, I thought that what I saw was pretty reasonable save for the fact that a few times the incoming attack was clearly telegraphed. Maybe action canceling via dodging hasn't been implemented yet.
Speaking of dodge, is it considered okay for people to not get hit despite dodging INTO an attack?

Looks bad, monster moves seem limited, artstyle is generic like most -smaller- pc games, but, good effort on something people wanted for a while now. Just don't think it will take off to the masses or become remotely popular. There have been MH clones before, most failed, even ones pushed by Sony like God eater or toukiden (by fail i mean, failed to sell millions like mh and become a wide known hit. Least this is pc where the possibilities are opened a bit, but again, artstyle needs to be unique and not cookie cutter, from this footage anyway.

Maybe the starter equipment is too crappy, but the monster should stagger more. the feeling of an opportunity opening up in a action game like monster hunter or dark souls is like an injection of adrenaline. unlike the shrike, there aren't any major openings unless you learn to read the monster well (which the demo players don't have time for. It's good that the devs are trying to make the game distinct from its inspiration, but don't skimp on inspiration when it comes to what makes the game fun.

the game looks great, there are some things to polish but its pre alpha so probably they just made that map and this monster to show something, its far from finished not sure why people compare this to actual monster hunter games when those took like 5 or 6 games to implement new gameplay systems btw this monster have the same amount of attacks than a monster hunter one or more

I was hoping this would be like a PC monster hunter-but-better with American servers (the lack of which and the lack of a usable english translation being my main issues with MHO) but it honestly looks like just another shitty MH knockoff with a lot of questionable design choices (ie things that can't be written off as just being in beta) so far. Oh well.

I'm all for works inspired by other games, but they've just lifted Monster Hunter, straight down to even character and monster animations. Any other medium and they would have been sued already. Dispicable.
Seriously, a 2017 where this is allowed to live, but Scalebound gets canned is lame A. F.

A big creature rolled into a tree and the tree didn't even shake, immersion please. But really, looks fun, but also looks a little too slow and repetitive, hopefully this is one of the more basic enemies and there's much more exciting stuff to fight.
reply

This game could learn a lot from Dragon's Dogma. Fighting big monsters like this loses a lot of its fun when you just whack away at its feet.
You should be able to climb it and have a lot of abilities that affect the monster and how it behaves, etc.

physics is horrible and you barely feel any weight. Animations are way too stiff, no fluidity whatsoever. Looking at this and all other mh clones you really have to appreciate how well capcom has done with their monster hunter engine.
reply

For a pre alpha build the game looks rather good.
however it is still lacking a bit of weight to the animations (some better sound will help too)
hopefully those make it into the beta build. but only time will tell

seems a bit to slow and repetitive for my taste, but im sure someone will find it fun, looks good atleast, not enough variety in player classes though, but its a work in progress, got room to grow i guess haha, lets hope so

I like the art design for this game generally, but the extreme contrast on light/dark, and the almost black shadows make the game kinda difficult to read. Hope they tone that down a bit, or maybe offer a lower contrast option.

If this had been Monster Hunter they would have failed the quest 10 times with that many KO's. I like the direction of this game but I'm never going to get it because I don't like paying $10-15 a month to play a game.

this is like if Monster Hunter and Phantasy Star had a baby. but a really boring baby. The combat is slow and boring and the graphics over all just look bad calling this a Monster Hunter clone is sort of insulting to MH
reply

Just so everyone knows, this mmorpg is made by only 40 people and it's the first game of the studio, yet you dare comapre it with AAA games. Please make researches before comparing / unnecessarily criticizing.
reply

At this point, some things are looking pretty good, yet some others need improvements and tweaking. Anyway it's an early build, so I have hopes on it becoming the PC monster hunter alternative we want

That nice lizard wasn't bothering nobody and you went and mashed him up with a meat tenderizer! this is a game about terrorizing fancy wildlife with your friends. i do like that hammer tho.
reply

I hope they add more ability to prep for hunts I mean what I see right now is a good game but going in with only so little items what heal, revive, flare and boost leaves little to actually do
reply

I honestly can't believe how bad this looks, even when compared to something like God Eater or Toukiden, let alone MH itself. Here's hoping we get MHXX on Switch or something at least.
reply

I wonder how soloable this is? Or is this online only?
I love how the monsters glow when in the shadows. And OMG, actual scarring! The audio could use some work though IMHO.

reply

Monster Hunter does a great job to add 'weight' to their weapons and combat. How does Dauntless compare? Was it fun, or did it feel like it may become tiresome or boring?
reply

The monster must've been heavily inspired by the crystal lizards in Dark Souls 3. Would be super interesting to have a game that's a cross between MH and Dark Souls combat
reply

The athmosphere and audio on this game is incredible good. like in the beginning you can hear the smashes far away. (had to lower the bass XD) i also dig the style.
reply

This is a better monster than the owlbear shrek. But the ice uragaan can freeze the environment but cannot freeze the hunter? This game won't have stats ailments?
reply

Hmm i see the creatures in this world are based on real animals, very interesting; this particular one seems to be based on a Pangolin in both name and visual
reply

I really like ir. There is a lot of potential in this. Good work so far. I would like too see sprint, impactful sounds when hitting stuff and harder monsters
reply

Im tire of hiting the leg of the enemies to kill them (and obviously the limitation on the design of them) learn something from dragon dogma please!
