Celeste and Madeline in the car after successfully confronting the mayor to continue with Madeleines controversial muppet play. Celeste came out of retirement (previously a lawyer) to help her friend but that was empowering and much needed for this wounded, traumatised and abused woman. She felt triumphant, liberated and strong. Not like the caged wife she has been to an angry, abusive husband. And I love Alexander, especially in True Blood, but his scenes with Celeste (Nicole Kidman) in this show were really painful and difficult to watch. So that scene in the car with the two women was impactful for me. It shows us what Perry has taken away from Celeste in this relationship.

What an extraordinary show this has been! I ordered HBO just to watch season 2. It is so well written, atmospheric, with the nuances speaking volumes, and kudos to Vallee's direction. There is nary a wasted moment in any episode, as the dialogue and interaction builds on each other with intensity and just pulls you in. I sat there watching Season 2 Episode 2 and was blown away watching these characters deal with the new revelations and relationships they now had with each other, especially the children, it was just so well crafted!

I know the first season was based on the book & ended with a murder. So the beginning started off about a death. Since they went on to season 2 it kinda sucked bc as much as Perry is a monster i wonder how he would have reacted to Ziggy. Like would perry have wanted custody or what? I felt like some of the characters in season 2 wrapped up their story in season 1. Like Jane's story was wrapped up imo. Renata owned season 2. She was great in season 1 as well. I read the book & it made the ending was done much better.

Everyone is so good in this show but those were a few of my favorites moments there is also Ed giving a second chance for Madeline and Ziggy talking to Jane about her boyfriend and how Ziggy liked him and he made her happy and she liked him too, seeing his concern for her happyness was a sweet moment. Also Reneta is the BOSS she is so freaking cool, I wanted to smash stuff too and I thought she was really going to hit him but not doing so was so mugh better.

I found it a bit unbelievable that Celeste would not have learned to be more cautious when speaking to Perry about topics she'd learned had infuriated him in the past, that caused him to beat her. In her shoes, a woman quickly learns to hide those subjects or at least downplay them (her work as a lawyer or anything regarding their children's school functions.

am i the only one who realized Perry was Jane's rapist very quickly after they showed us that he was abusing his wife?
and in that scene when jane went to the architect i was only scared that she would kill the wrong guy and also even though i knew about perry and jane that realization scene was amazingly planned and performed

I actually hated what they did with Renata's marriage. In the first season it's the one strong, supportive and healthy marriage, and then season 2 just wrecked that so none of them were really healthy.
(Yes, I know that's in the book that he's a cheater. But they didn't have to do it! They changed tons of other stuff)

Ed's reaction to finding out about Madeline's affair was heartbreaking. I think the writers, along with Adam Scott's brilliant performance did a great job of showing his struggle to either stay with Madeline or leave. And renewing their vows actually felt realistic and not rushed.

Nicole slapping Meryl, that was monumental, i never thought in my life i would see one Meryl Streep being slapped that way, ovbiously its a fake slap, but somehow, with a great control of force from Nicole and a brilliant editing, it feels totally real and emotionaly intense.

Madeline shouldve been the one to decide to tell the secret, it was the only way for her character to be redeemed and earn Ed to stay with her. Also, most of season two was filler it couldve been accomplished in 3 episodes, trim out all the slowwwww scenes with Bonnie.

I miss this show already. So sad season 3 is no longer happening. I feel so bad for Bonnie. She was abused as a child, thats why she accidentally killed an evil person. She suffered with guilt throughout the season, plus her mom died. I wanna give her a hug.

Just finished watching season 2 yesterday. Awesome show, great acting. Fave moments each top
Madeline perimenopausal yoga class
Celeste slapping Mary Louise
Renata destroying husbands toys
Jane dancing with Corey
Mary Louise scream

reply

Jane smacking Renata is like the biggest mood. Like such a moment. And Renata destroying her husband's toys is such a Goddamn good moment. Honestly both of them deserve EMMYS, they both did such an amazing job portraying their characters.

I know this moment is not remember for many people, but in season 1 episode 5 when Celeste was with the psicologist and she tells Celeste that they should make an appointment because he going to hit her again. Is just cause gouse bumps.

Season One was art as it was based on a great book by a great author. Season Two was Me-Too porn for the shallow we don't need a good plot crowd. my favorite scene was the final credits of Season Two. the sad farce was finally over.
reply

What the second season does well is shine a spotlight on the more secondary characters, in particular Bonnie - Load of rubbish. Bonnie became the worst character and dragged the season down completely. Hated every aspect of it.
reply

literally EVERY scene with reese witherspoon, i adored her in this role and she is such an incredible actress and delivered every line with such spitfire. i feel like shes not as appreciated for how AMAZING she was as madeline
reply

To me one of the most intense moments is when Mary Louise tells Celeste that her kids told her Ziggy is their brother, then Madeline finds out Chloe is the one who told Ziggy, and then Jane asks Ziggy what Chloe said to him.
reply

I think there were more iconic scenes like the Mary Louise's scream on S2E1, when Celeste slapped Mary Louise, when Renata found out Gordon cheated on her with the nanny and put a bunch of kleenex on his mouth, and some others
reply

I would argue that perry finding out about celestes plan to move in the season finale is #2 or maybe even #1. It perfectly encapsulates all of Celeste's fears coming to a point. Im upset it isnt on this list at all.
reply

How can you conclude that Ed is not everyone's favourite character it sure as hell the only having a sense of integrity n dignity other than characters like Madeleine, Abigail, that dumbass Nathan XD
reply

How could Laura Dern as renata not make the list. She won an emmy & golden globe for a reason! Only nicole kidman & alexander skarsgard won those as well. They are on the list but not renata!
reply

Perry's death could be manslaughter at worst. I would argue it was clearly a case of defending someone from a violent attack and necessary force was used to stop it.
reply

For me it was when Celeste played the video her sons took of her husband beating the shit out of her at the trial. That was brutal, especially for his mom.
reply

Renata bashing stuff with a bat was so iconic and easily became one of my favorite moments in the whole show. There is a reason Renata is my favorite.
reply

I would add: Perry finding out that Celeste was planning to leave him because the real state agent called. OMG I swore she was going to get killed
reply

Ive never seen big little lies but i wanna know more about it. Is it like an adult version of pretty little liars as far as plot line goes?
reply

Renata is just under as much stress as Celeste through out the 2 seasons. But her way of expressing it is on the complete opposite spectrum lol

Watching little fires everywhere, Reese is repetitive in her performances. Guess when she does films or t. v she does similar characters.
