The Strange Science of the Impossible Burger

video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
It's called the Impossible Burger and it looks, feels, tastes and smells like ground beef, even though it's made entirely of plants. It's all thanks to science and genetically engineered yeast. WIRED explores how close it comes to the real thing and if it's 100% safe. The story of the fake meat on a mission to change the world with one part soy plant, one part genetically engineered yeast-and one part activism. Ingredients include wheat protein, to give the burger that firmness and chew. And potato protein, which allows the burger to hold water and transition from a softer state to a more solid state during cooking

Are any biological/physiological problems anticipated or being studied regarding -tricking the brain- that the body is consuming meat? It was considered a success to trick the brain into thinking it is consuming sugar when a person eats artificial sweeteners but now we know that tricking the brain then confuses the body to release what the brain perceives and communicates, In the case of artificial sweeteners, for the pancreas to release insulin. The body waits for the sugar to come - but then it never comes. Now people who consume artificial sweeteners experience metabolic problems and gastrointestinal problems. If a person eats imitation meat, the brain identifies it as real meat, brain tells body to prepare for digesting meat ( hydrochloric acid, release enzymes, mucous ) - then the meat never arrives, does this confuse the body the same way artificial sugar confuses the body? When it comes to food, when we succeed in tricking our brain do we - succeed - in tricking the body and negatively impact our health?

Highly processed, full of vegetable oil / soy and just plain bad for your health!
Soy contains estrogen-like compounds called isoflavones. And some
findings suggested that these compounds could promote the growth of some
cancer cells, impair female fertility, and mess with thyroid function.

The impossible burger is a GMO nightmare if you have any brain in your head and you care about the environment he wouldn-t promote GMO-s in your food or an actual agriculture once GMO start growing in massive scale a cross pollinate it-s non-GMO crops and creates hybrid plants that contain those disgusting GMO qualities like corn that carry natural pesticide I don-t know about you but I don-t really want my food to contain inside of the food pesticides

starting buying these a few days ago now that they're in trader joe's. listen: if you use a bun, regular condiments and lettuce, you literally cannot tell it's not meat. in fact it tastes flavorful. why should I get beef for burgers again? was the only high cholesterol food I ate besides eggs

I don't eat meat but my BF does. Every time we make burgers, we usually have both, and the next day reheating I have to TRIPLE check to make sure i'm eating the impossible. The only difference is impossible isnt super juicy but its amazing how impossible is all plant

I wish for a meatless planet, more fruit, veggies and grains for all as Source intended. After all, we've been there and done that and beside the unbelievable amount of cruelty to animals, meat consumption is one of the highest health hazard in nutrition.

The tradition ground beef meat of today is tasteless unless you find a local (non-supermarket) butcher or pay for expensive mail order. I just bought a 2 pack of these and looking forward to the results.

They taste really good.
But they are not vegan, because they used meat in the progress to replicate the flavour notes/compounds of real beef, which means an animal had to die/used at one point.

Was eating one while watching this, they're delicious and y'all should try one. Waayyyy less mess too if you're a poor college student without a grill like myself and have to pan fry everything.

Fake meats are not about your health or the environment-s; they-re a tool to phase out farmers and ranchers and replace them with an ultraprocessed food product that can be controlled by patents.
