Ive been fascinated with such of the era after reading the likes of Sherlock Holmes, but been very keen to find out more on lesser-known Victorian investigative subjects that involved what is today known as whistleblowers, but also mainly a type of military-based CSI as an independent agency outside of the military itself, especially involved in battlefield analysis where accounts of the action differed greatly from the events, taking the investigation into the hands of an impartial unit that had no personal interest in the case, nor military lawyers who werent necessarily able to visit the area itself. I guess the maiden term would be sort of battlefield detectives, who werent themselves historians/archaeologists long after the fact. I recall that it was W. T. Stead who is considered to be the original investigative reporter, though more to do with civilian issues, but were there such who actually investigated the military when answers to questions were not forthcoming, kept within the military establishment as self-preservation

You do know. that the most poverty couses are frome murdering. killing without takeing the write back from. whow mannige his problem of fainanchal esues by killing as a solvation.
life is more important than this slovation. and the esue that you are in a bad fainanchal problem had not been solved. the soscity is beeing holding it as a hard hard labour. and here we cant speak about money. about moral we are talking. as alike tow beutifull ladeys. mabe if here shame sounds made her beutey bad memory for her. but the first elements of soscity sayes that beutifull women are the most wanted in soscity. so the morals are in narrow sercomstances again. i find that people whow are gaiding to a haigh morals and had been manniged socsess and hard complete whall victorey is hard to been seen as details most of the time. so plese. read about profit mohammed as i beleave he surely is. good man after all. and we are all as good men and women, we like to speak about ourselfse.

Oh gosh please no its not blood splatter its spatter-sincerely a forensic scientist.
In recent history, most comparison science were ripped to shreds in the 2009 NAS report. Things such as fingerprints, footwear comparison, and such. Chemical analysis and biological analysis werent shredded as much but the need for standardization and protocols were discussed. Thats where we get our groups such as ASTM, and scientific working groups. Also Daubert and Frye have added to the ability for certain forensic evidence to be admitted into court. I could go on a huge rant about how forensic chemistry has been around but you could just go watch the poisoners handbook instead for more toxicology and chemistry stuff. Forensics is very cool in TV but the reality isnt as fabulous as you think. It requires a lot of science, math, and time

The description of Jack the Rippers personality falls chillingly in line with how many serial killers like Bundy were described. I mean if serial killers actually LOOKED like homicidal maniacs, they would be less successful in accumulating victims. And I cannot even begin to comprehend what it was like for the man who photographed Mary Kelly, especially if he had to try and get a photo of her eyes. Tbh, it doesnt seem like her eyes would have necessarily been in any condition to be recognized as eyes.

Among the many screwups of the Ripper investigation, the English were adamant that the killer had to be a foreigner, since no Englishman would ever perpetrate such a horrific crime. And they invariably depicted fanciful illustrations of what they thought the killer might look like as brutal, almost primitive looking men. God forbid that a nice looking gentleman could ever do such terrible things!

Even today you can still identify a gun to a bullet by looking at the bunter marks from the machines that stamp the back of bullets or even looking at the firing pins mark on the primer, similar to comparing forensic tool marks based on small details of wear with advanced microscopes. Same way one can compare a pair of pliers that bend wires in a detonated bomb

Some people realized as early as 1788 that fingerprints could be used to identify individual people, yet they were hardly ever used in criminal investigations until almost the end of the 19th century. This is an example of cultural lag the gap in time between a discovery or invention and its being widely adopted in society.

Toxicologist would examine the contents of the victims stomach when trying to ascertain if the victim was poisoned and which poison it may be. This could be very dangerous work as it would involve realising any toxic gases which had built up in the stomach. More than one toxicologist died from inhaling the gas.

Economic prosperity for some. Obviously no one wants to be homeless. But the Victorian era in England was one of the worst times and places to be out on the streets. Either due to poor health or simply having gotten a bit old. Still capable of working. Just not as fast a younger man.

They know who Jack the Ripper is. The suspect they found was arrested and the murders stopped. But the media likes to play loose with the facts. The chief of police said at the time there was no mystery. They investigated, found the guy and arrested him.

I've always found the field of forensics fascinating, case in point, I watch Forensic Files. However, I had no idea that some of the most common methods used in forensics originated in the Victorian Era. In conclusion, Weird History is awesome.

India was the first country to adopt Fingerprints in 1858.
And Weird History fact is that actual people who were behind the work didn't get recognition because British Officer took All Credit.
Will you make a video about Who these people were?

Ok, this is kind of a catch for me: I think it would have been so cool to be so cool to be a doctor in the Victorian era, but I also think it would have been cool to be able to (more or less) literally get away with murder lol. Great video!

you may have covered this aspect of crime investigation on another video but here in Knoxville TN we have the Body Farm that was started by Dr Bass at the University of Tennessee and has since been replicated in many other places.

Although the idea of using fingerprints as evidence was not actually used until much later, Mark Twain used it in his novel Puddin'head Wilson, in which an eccentric lawyer clears his client of murder.

Something I'm surprised we don't use yet is some sort of character creation mechanic, like in video games. Instead of sketches, have the witness try to recreate the persons face with a computer program.

Bro Mary Kellys eyes werent. they were hardly there. Her face was torn apart. Do not look up pictures of her face I thought it would be the rest of her that was brutalized and I was wrong.

It's interesting to see how perspectives changed as science discovered more. I'd like to know how the polygraph came to be considered a lie detector when it's mostly useless as such.
