Given that I think most modern day politicians who run for and fulfill the office of the U. S. Presidency do so for self-satisfaction and legacy amplification, I think that by and large they are okay with these drawbacks. A lot of them are elitist career politicians who are accustomed to being treated like royalty anyway. I think these drawbacks are actually seen as perks of the job to them. The presidents from the more antiquated eras may have had less and did not get as many spoils of office that modern day era presidents get but I trust that their drive to hold public office was guided by more altruistic principles as opposed to modern day presidents who just see the presidency as a giant score to bolster or complete their oftentimes lengthy political resumes.

I was in grade school when Jimmy was elected. I went to Baltimore in '79 with my mom and grandmother to visit friends.
While grandma stayed at their house, me and my mom went to D. C. to, I think, the Capitol Building.
Up in a balcony, I watched somebody sign a paper. I thought it was Jimmy, but I can't be sure.
I had the same last name at the time, so that was cool too.

Cool fact the health care theyre talking about after serving the two terms or 5 years is Tri-care. Its the same as what the military gets. More so its what retired military gets. If they need surgery theyll be rushed to Walter reed which is the nice of the nice military hospitals. Its funny though cause Tri-care isnt the best insurance.

I will only comment on Presidents that were in office that I remember, having lived through These Presidents, F. D. R., Harry Truman, Eisenhower, J. F. K. Reagan, Obama, all contributed something positive, that was needed at the time.

One more bit: former presidents are the only private citizens that get embassy resources when overseas: motorpool, security, control officers, site officers, press officers, etc.
