Are you dealing with a narcissist right now? Narcissists are masters of sabotage, deceit, and emotional manipulation. While Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is only present in a very rare few, a lot more people actually have narcissistic tendencies that can make them just as dangerous to be around as someone with NPD. This is why so many of us, unfortunately, find ourselves falling for them and letting them into our lives without really knowing just how much trouble were getting into. Oftentimes, we dont realize how horrible they really are until its too late. So, we have made this video to help you learn how to spot a narcissist and save yourself the emotional trauma. If this video sounds like someone you know but you're not too sure if they are a narcissist, we've got you covered as well! Here's our previous video on the signs someone is a narcissist

Some of these things take me back to my past (childhood and most of my adulthood) and I can't help but make a disgusted facial expression/annoyed Sideshow Bob grumble whenever I hear them. My troubled mother would say things like I did things for you because I care about you, now you have to do things for me in return, I'm your mom and I gave birth to you. Her kids were left with two choices, do whatever she says or face her wrath. Her go-to methods of punishing us for defying her included hitting, screaming, making accusations, berating, and bringing up her past ( she was mistreated by her own mother and bullied by her future inlaws. Currently, she still relies on the whole I'm your mom. and If you defy me again, I'll hit you thing. Perhaps she'll never mature as a person/learn that playing the victim while victimizing others doesn't really benefit her. It's not up to her kids to make her see the light. Setting boundaries with her seems to lessen the impact of her words on us.

I made the mistake of befriending a narcissist. But I was too young too realise it because we went to preschool together and ever since we we like brothers as thats what we called each other. And then he got diagnosed with ASD and moved into another school. We didnt see each other for FIVE YEARS until I met him in high school and it was like no time had passed whatsoever. But I realised that he never really cared about me but used me to get to other people. So the next day after I had figured that out, I told him that I was done. I was heartbroken, but done. Five years later Ive moved on to different people, been battling depression and found out recently that I also have ASD. Wow. What a world.

Over half of these phrases are said to me from my partner. And if I ever point out that its not okay, then Im just berated over it. Or they turn it around and dont say these things or act kind for a week, then it goes right back to these tendencies No idea if this is narcissistic tendencies, personality disorder and/or bipolar disorder at this point Theyre therapist strongly suggested getting a potential evaluation and diagnosis for bipolar, but they wont get it because apparently their ADHD diagnosis and being medicated for it was the the solution. Ever since they started this medication, everything has been worse, in my opinion

These statements all tend to be a bit too obvious. Most narcissists are much more subtle and manipulative than that.
For example, rather than saying 'Not everything is about you', they'll just talk endlessly about themselves and their problems, goals, relationships, work etc, but if you ever venture to talk about yourself, they suddenly have other things to do.
Likewise, instead of 'No wonder nobody else likes you', they're more likely to report to you all the negative things other people say about you and pretend that they're telling you this for your own good.

But sometimes people ARE overreacting and ARE too sensitive. I'm not bashing the video, but what do you do when someone DOES overreact to everything and IS hypersensitive to everything, to the point where you can't even talk to them without getting accused of gaslighting or wanting to bring them down? I'm asking because there's someone in my life who is so hypersensitive that he takes everything as a personal attack and if one thing rubs him the wrong way then his day is ruined and I don't know what to do. It's getting draining.

I've been learning a lot about my mental health and have realized that there is someone in my life who has narcissist tendency. I won't say who because I'm worried they may see this, but it hurts. I can't leave them, just in general, but I realize how much this is weighing on me and will leave as soon as I can. Videos like these open my eyes a little more, as well as articles and textbooks. I'm glad to at least have this knowledge. Anyone else who's dealing with a similar situation, stay strong. We will get through this together.

I had this one friend who always talk about himself, and I meant in a not healthy way. At first I even self criticized myself for thinking so, thinking it's just her expressing herself, but as it goes on it got uncomfortable. Like when Im also sharing my experience on some topic after waiting for a turn, she interrupts and proceeds to focus again in what she 'also' experienced that is the same as mine. THIS HAPPENS EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. That's not even the worst of it

I don't know if it's a narcissistic thing I did, but I helped my friend to get a job by giving them a tip on a graphic design assignment and I wanted to know if it helped them and they said yes after posting their final result on his work. They didn't thank me so I was kind of frustrated. I wanted some praise like they did for my other friends after they helped them. But I was proud of me that I can help my friends. Is this narcissistic tendamcies coming out of me?

The kafka trap: No matter what you say or do, it will be incorrect, and you will be judged for it
This has been one of the most nefarious entaglements I've seen a narcissist use. You have to train yourself to make decisions based on your own autonomy, and escape the trap of caring what perpetually critical people will make of your actions. It's so difficult, but if you manage it, you will gain a new sense of freedom and agency, even within your own mind

(only just started seeing this, so 'scuse me if this is already covered)
One thing I can say, that a Narcissist would say. or at least behave, is that when they are being accused of something, then by (their) law, it is required for there to be at least ONE other reason.
. I mean, forcing the it could just as likely be. or somethin' like that. So that they'll never be guilty of anythin'.

This was my mother for 19 years and recently just left she moved me away from family kept me locked up watched 24/7 with cameras threatened to take school that i love. It wasnt till she got mad for me having to sneak and talk to my close friend that she tried to lay a finger so called my fam and to pick me ip and move with them and doing school it sucks this is normalized its not.

I think there must have been something bad going on in those people's heads to turn out this way. Maybe it's family issues, lack of attention, touch starvation even, lack of self-confidence. not trying to excuse them, what they're doing is bad, and you shouldn't hurt others just because you're hurt. But I just feel like there's a reason, a sort of trauma behind it all.

Please tell me that I am Him is one of these phrases. My brother is a gigantic narcissist and says it all the time. I also watched your suicide video and would like to thank you for somewhat keeping me alive, more or less. But I still wish to run away from home and think about it all the time. If you have a video for those thoughts please recommend it.

My mom actually accused me of always making everything about me - I felt like shit afterwards cause I didn't realize that me trying to initiate in a conversation would end up being about me. Idk, I started getting in my head about it and I don't like to talk anymore because of it
reply

What's going to happen when the narcissists attempted to manipulate each other or their victims manipulate them back and successfully made fools out of them? Or even better, the victims became successful with something that the narcissists have no knowledge whatsoever?
reply

I think either my psychiatrist or my parents might lying to me. My parents say my psychiatrist says Im narcissistic but none of these seem to check out, so if these are the most common ones
On the other hand my dad checks like half of these boxes, which is not so great.

So I came into this video with someone in particular in mind, then realized that someone else, my best friend when I was a teen, fits all of these. No wonder Ive come to resent that person now that I have some actual self esteem. No one deserves to be treated that way.
reply

I am absolutely the opposite of this to the point sometimes a friend says they need time for themselves and I think maybe I seem _too_ willing to let them go, when I just don't want to make them stay just because of me. I explained myself terribly but. eh whatever
reply

Ive been slowly realizing that one of my best friends has toxic traits this video definitely hit on a few things Ive been creating some space between us and feeling much better, but they sure dont like it and make comments that theyve been replaced

I just want to give you a thank you as an 11 year old kid I have been bullied for not having a girlfriend which is dumb for my young age but you have helped me with my crushes and I just wanted to thank all of psych2GO
reply

Sadly, this mostly sounds like my brother up to now into adulthood. It really hurts seeing some of these examples and I feel like there's something I withheld because there is nobody I can talk to about this anymore.
reply

I heard the comment of without me you are nothing. You will never get anyone like me that's going to put up with you. I was the perfect wife. Fortunately I will be getting a divorce going forward.
reply

An easy way to spot narcissism is to just resist it and then say 1 thing that might scare the Npd into that you might leave, and wait for them to pullout the I am not responsible or this is YOUR fault
reply

my dad is narcissistic. he was an alcoholic who always argued with my mom. he also gets mad whenever my mom listened to love songs. most of the things listed in this video were pretty true.
