What is a deal breaker? Deal breakers are the red flags in relationships or red flags in dating, that will cause you or your partner to call it quits. According to a 2014 study by Joel and others, dating deal breakers have a larger impact than deal makers. In other words, the bad usually outweighs the good. Are you or someone you know guilty of some of these deal breakers signs? If you find this video helpful and would like to learn more about dating and how it works, we previously made a video on the stages of dating. If you want to check that out, here's the link

A deal breaker for me is when they lie. I give the The Strikes You're Out rule letting them know that I know and to stop; how much damage its doing; and trying to get to the root of the lying together so that we both can tackle it togrther. I drop them like it's hot on that third strike. Well, that's how i planned it anyway. With my ex, by the time he was at his third strike, i was fully invested and it was hard to let him go. Bit I swear to drop the next one immediately the moment he lies. Lying is so damaging for real. once it starts I usually dont trust them anymore. That's why i recognize it as my deal breaker.

I've never understood the reasoning behind too much TV/video games. If you have something in life that brings you joy, whatever it is, why does it matter to others? If you spend the same amount of free time reading or going to theme parks or running or whatever, it doesn't have the same negative connotation. Netflix parties and video games are a way to connect with friends (and romantic partners) who share your interests. Binge watching a series together and talking about it are a joy in a relationship. It's time to move past judging others for their chosen interests.

I agree with them, but it should be updated. Deal breakers for women: 1. Be under six foot tall. 2. Make less than $500, 000 a year. 3. Give her less than 1/4th of your earnings every year (this includes gifts, outings, dinners, and cash. 4. Don't go on monthly trips around the world (This is not part of the 1/4 rule. 5. Don't own a yacht or your yacht under 150 feet. 6. Don't treat her like a Goddess. 7. Don't die within 5 years, and if you do, didn't leave her a dime.

I've had several guys who wanted to drive me out of town for a first date. I wanted to stay in town and go for tea/coffee then a walk through the bookstore. They were adamant to the point of hostility. Most hung up in anger, but one tried to stalk me. This went on until telling him that the concierge in my building was already instructed to call the police if he stepped on property. The. End.

My deal breaker: being too similar or too unlike
It's great to have someone to talk to about what you like and if you can't have someone with same qualities or interests as you it's hard to understand each other
And even if you do have someone like that but doesn't have anything different to say it gets kinda boring, nothing new to discover

reply

Hygiene! Wow. Thats a good one bc if youre conservative you dont actually know if or when or how well they shower and stuff since you dont sleep over but ewwww I get it. You totally should know. I know a few women who have yell at their husbands to shower and even brush three teeth
Yellonly bc they reminded them twice nicely

reply

about the last one: how tf can i tell someone that I don't want to be with them bc they're too self conscious. because every way i can think of would make them even more self conscious bc they'd blame themselves but i just want different things/have other expectations. I'd love to hear anyones opinion on this!

Deal breaker for me is an individual who hasn't done the heart work on himself so that he can be prepared for healthy relationship. And poor communication skills, along with a desire to not just be self-aware of your shortcomings, but actually put some effort into doing something about them.
reply

Hmmm. So in every example the women were more picky than the men.
It's funny how us guys have historically been criticised for being shallow in dating/relationships. Where as in reality women are much more selective both in terms of looks and personality traits.

Other deal breakers:
(and in my opinion waaay more impactful)
1. Being overly jealous
2. Being verbally or physically abusive
3. Being a jerk
4. Disrespecting the other person
5. Ignoring your partner and not caring about them

What about those who deal with unresolved PTSD or Trauma and these traits are coping mechanisms/ symptoms of that trauma? Ive found a partner who accepts me for those issues. Life w/ a loving partner despite these issues is possible. Keep looking.
reply

About 6 yrs ago I got threatened and verbally abused because I turned down someone who was not only not on my level but wanted to bludge thier life away, never cleaned, hardly showered and mentally immature. what's with some people?
reply

Who comes up with this nonsense & what kinda women are they talking about, why don't the people who come up with this Crap come out to where I live & I guarantee they'll see the kind of women that exist trust me I know.
reply

You know what? I think I am better off being single then going through the hassle of trying to find a girlfriend. After all just what is the difference between a girlfriend and a hooker? A hooker is probably cheaper.

My boyfriend of three years meets two out of the seven listed points. He has so many other good qualities it's hard to break up with him over minor things I just wonder if I'm settling for less than I should.
reply

This list is too Americanised'. The whole jocks vs. Nerds' argument again. Give me a funny. Kind lady everytime. Also personal hygiene certainly should not be down at five. Moew like in the top three

My deal breaker:
1. Smoking and drinking alcohol
I do consume wine and vodka but only during rainy season to heat up my body. More like medicine. It is not my lifestyle.

reply

I vibed well with my man until I went down to the basement! Like a bomb went off! Flys, clothes, boxes, miscellaneous junk, with a dead rodent on the stairs to top it off!
reply

Lmao this is why my ex is an ex for a reason. All of these were him except he never called and rarely texted. He claimed that talking on messenger was sufficient. Nah. bye

I find it facinating that women struggle with men they find either lazy. or spending too much time on entertainment
What does this suggest about men and women in general?

reply

Of course - this video is really aimed by women at men: it's a way of completely painting us into a corner so that there's no room for manoeuvre. Typical.
reply

Being too athletic means that the other person is insecure about their own fitness. That's their problem. Don't dim your light to please someone else.
reply

Only reason being athletic being a deal beaker is for a woman thats needy and lazy and they dont want their man to look better than them smh
reply

Ad 1) Where are you? and things like that don't signal neediness.
Ad 3) is not written on the front.
Ad 4) can change?

reply

Self Confidence was never a deal breaker. If people like what they see on the outside, you should be fine and that's all.
