When you look at a rhythm how good are you at identifying the time signature that most appropriately fits it? How do you know if a rhythm should be in 6/8 or in 3/4, especially when the notes in any given bar add up to the same mathematical total? Test your knowledge with this short time signature quiz! 0:39 - First exercise 4:05 - Second exercise 7:15 - Third exercise 8:21 - Fourth exercise 12:36 - Fifth exercise

First rhythm looks like 4/4 on the outset but I'm thinking it is 3/4 because the quarter at the end of it would likely be accented.
Assuming the first one is 3/4, then rhythms 2 and 5 perfectly fit into 3/4.
Rhythm 4 actually looks like 3/2 or 1.5 bars of 4/4
Rhythm 3 looks very foreign to 3 beats or even 4 beats. It looks like 5/4
Only relation between 3/4 and 5/4 is quarter note beats, nothing else about it is related. So it can't be a single time signature that has all those rhythms can it?

Hi sir I have a question that no one talk about and hope you answer me and that is :what are the factors or reasons that makes a beat accented(for example first beat of common time)?does dynamic or length or pitch or stabity or sth else make that note accented?
I can feel the accent in melody but dont know exactly the reason of that accent and I need the answer to this question to change the time signature anywhere I want in a piece of music.thanks in advance

Other helpful information:

minim half note
breve whole note
dotted crochet dotted quarter note
dotted minim dotted half note
hope this table is helpful to those trying to learn music theory in the US because there are slight differences in the terminologies that are used

Really struggling with time signatures in ABRSM Grade 2 theory. Working it out seems to be difficult. Inserting the correct rests for the time signature, adding missing bar lines. Even though i understand the basic concept of what the top number means and the bottom.
