Why did Italy Join The Axis Powers? And thats why some countries joined the axis like my country (Bulgaria) coz of unfairly treated of taken territory, we joined the axis in hopes of taking back thats which rightfully is ours! In WWI we were on Germanys side for macedonia which was taken from us, from the balkan war! And we were on the winning side before we were stabbed in the back from our former allies (Greece, Serbia) not only that even romania take action against us even thought she wasnt in the balkan war at the first place and then Turkey our archenemy with both Greece, Serbia and Romania butchered us! Bot only we gave many casualties in the balkan war, WWI and WWII, and ofc the best part of it was the treaty of Neuilly-sur-Seine which was Unfairly treated ill say about all of the treaties!\r\n

Whoever, mainly, views Italy as a turncoat in WW2 is an enigma to me. The nation birthed Facismo. Nazi Germany was quite racist towards them but they held, somewhat, similar goals and disgruntlement. The switch is explained by a simple explanation- the people. Poor performance and failure lead to upheaval. More successful and influential nations knocking on your door hold sway. Italy in WW2 is far more famous for its- lack of success.

You want to assign blame, then blame the King. Mussolini was the King's puppet. And don't forget this branch of the house of Savoy has a history of treason and mismanagement (re unification of Italy, colonial adventures and ww1. In addition this video completely misses the mark; both the king and dux where incredibly afraid of the Nazi's, they feared (perhaps without reason) that the Nazi's would turn Italy in another Poland or France.

Italy, and Germany, would have been better off if the Italians had stayed neutral in June 1940. Italy could have been a conduit for supplies to Germany and the British would have to keep significant forces in the Mediterranean to counter the Italian threat. But with France near defeat and Britain sure to follow, Mussolini found the temptation for territorial expansion too much. The rest is as they say, history.

Just to make it clear, we not switched side or betrayed.
We capitulated.
After 8 September, there was no Kingdom of Italy or fascist regime.
There was only the people of Italy and what remained of their army.
What these people have done was enjoy the side that was in charge of the country at the time.

inappropriate thumbnail and harmful content. this film deserves to be reported for total flattening what fascism and nazism was. you present them as ordinary political options - and these were totalitarian systems which caused millions of deaths and global war. you have no respect for the victims.

You know what the problem is, Italy does not invade anyone, if anything it takes back what is hers. And the same goes for Greece. It is amazing how the 2 countries, which are the backbones of Western civilization, are reduced like this, from countries that should only be silent, and show respect.

Quite simple; opportunism and delusions of grandeur. Feeling wronged both in the aftermath of the great war and by the opposition they faced due to their invasion of Abyssinia. Adding to that the wish to resurrect Italian greatness of prior centuries and millennia.

the author of this video either doesnt have the slightest of clues of what fascism means, or he conflates socialism as a whole with just one of its branches aka internationalist marxism, or he knows all of this and he is outright lying its audience.
reply

Its not -nationalist fascist party-. If anything its -national facist party-. And even that is technically a wrong translation. Actually it should be -national unity party-.
Fascism comes from the word -Fasces- which means something like -unit-.

I m Italian and I would like to remember that the creator of all Fascisms in the world was Mussolini. We were culpable but Norimberga in Italy never happened. Sorry guys for crazy politicians that spread the ideas of war and imperialism.

Initially, Italy and Germany disliked each other as ltaly wanted influence in Austria. The nazis were so angered that they even sent weapons to Ethiopia, which was being invaded by Italy. But. common interests became obvious and.

It's ironic A member of a socialist party creates an ideology
Worse or just as bad as socialism
Keeping the same economic system
-Inside the state everything, outside the state nothing-
Il Duce said so

reply

Lol ya I see u took socialism out of the nazi party name ignoring the fact that these parties were both a rethinking of primarily socialist doctrines just for the most part rebranded with different motivation

They tried the allies in WWI, didnt work, they tried the axis in WW2 didnt work. They tried switching sides last minute, didnt work. I don't know of any nation anyone would les like to have on its side.
reply

What if after switching sides king Victor Emmanuel instead of fleeing stayed in Rome and used the army to hold the city against the germans? Could this act convince the italians to vote for the monarchy in 1946?
reply

Let's be honest, France and Britain caused ww2. If Italy would've been given what it was promised and Germany didn't get such hefty reparations and humilation there wouldn't have been so much discontent.
reply

i heard it was social security. Italians were returning home, from working in america half their life, and america didn't want to take care of them, monetarily, in their old age, once they left america.
reply

The whole thing about Italy changing sides is nothing but a meme; the alliance Italy stroke with Germany was defensive, meaning we were supposed to back the Germans if they were attacked FIRST.
reply

After all, after centuries of continuous invasions from France and Austria, why not invade them for once? Damn Germans! You anticipated us! ---
