This Will Make Your Cars Engine Fail 69CamaroSS407: Dealerships make THE MAJORITY of the money necessary to stay in business off PARTS AND SERVICE DEPARTMENTS (and the used car lot. NOT on the sale of a new car where anyone can lookup the actual (kind of) invoice that they paid the manufacturer for the car and barter or shop around. Insight: When you take your car to dealership for service, they look up the job (that THEY deem necessary) in a book. This book lists the job-hours to complete said job. They charge you labor (upwards of 100/hr) based on the total time the book indicates. REGARDLESS OF HOW QUICKLY THEY ACTUALLY COMPLETE THE WORK You are still paying them (at +100/hr) AFTER theyve already finished and are then on to working on SOMEBODY ELSES CAR Two obvious problems. overcharging and rushed work Ive worked at several dealerships over the years I know this to be absolute fact. Dont believe me. look at the labor charge on your next service invoice and see if there is fractional (not whole-number) labor charges. which would indicate they didnt charge the entire allotted amount due to actually finishing in less time

Great video as usual. Autostart is just the tip of the iceberg of what car makers want to do to deliberately make your care wear out after 4. 5 years. A HUGE part of that strategy has to do with destroying the independent, honest and price-competitive car mechanic, by withholding software / programming tools, or, where there is a right to repair law, only making them available at dishonest, inflated prices to force said mechanic to charge in line with dealer service rates -- its a kind of end run attempt at price fixing to ensure that your car, when it starts needing service regularly 4+ years costs you so much money that you trade it in, allowing them to capture even more of your hard earned. If that sounds un-American to you, write your Congresspeople, and tell them we need a ROBUST right to repair law that forces auto makers to provide copies of their source code. That should be the price for having their IP protected by mega-robust copyright, trade secret, and patent law.

The Auto Start/Stop thing is a joke. I literally watched some lady in a brand new Mercedes (not sure the exact model. Looked like a nice 50k car) basically there was a fatality on one of our major freeways in PHX AZ. Backed up on the 101 for miles. So we were inching down the road. She was next to me. And her car kept shutting off and restarting. I would say at lesst 50 times within 2 miles. Eventually, it didnt start again. So now we had a traffic Jam inside of a traffic Jam. nowhere to push or move her car. Poor lady lol. You would think in a 50k dollar car or ANY vehicle with auto start stop, would have a sort of saftey feature that would realise Hey, your battery is dying, Auto start stop has been disabled until battery has a good charge again

Manual transmissions may get slightly better mileage, but spending time in stop-and-go traffic makes sloths of us all. I prefer automatics as they free me from frequent shifting, and that permits me to concentrate more fully ontraffic around me. That, and I dont have to take the car in periodically to have the clutch replaced. For the most part, an auto trans requires less maintenance and upkeep. I keep my cars for many years, and that frees me from having to keep up with such issues as they age. Very few cars even offer a manual trans anymore, including Ferrari and Lamborghini; an auto trans can shift itself faster and more efficiently than a driver can shift a manual.

Scotty I still drive a standard transmission, they are hard to find on new cars. I currently have a 2017 4 cylinder Honda Accord Ex with a 6 speed manual, the other option was a garbage CVT. I live in Tampa, FL the dealership had to order the car from a dealership in Louisiana, thats how hard it is to find a standard transmission these days. I have had zero problems with the car, yeah the 4 cylinder only puts out 185hp (thats enough power for me) compared to the V6 thats much more powerful but is much more expensive to fix. First new car Ive ever owned got a gem with it being a 4 cylinder standard transmission Honda Accord, will drive it for 20 years.

Hey Scotty, I heard about those start stop features being common place even in manual cars in Europe, is it really worse of a system to have than just stay on idle? My brother has a start stop car, and he told me the car keeps a record of start stops and the system actually disables itself once it has a certain milage or better known as starting count. That system being aside though, I wonder how much money you actually save on gas compared to how much youre spending money to replace the starter and costs from wear and tear on other parts like you said about the cams.

Check for a seizing steering shaft u-joint if your steering is stiff. I lubricated the u-joint on my 2009 Camry with light oil and the steering effort immediately reduced. A couple of days later the steering effort started to increase, so, instead of replacing the shaft, I worked a handful of bearing grease into the joint and it seems to have cured it. The joint near the firewall in the engine compartment is usually the one that seizes, since it is exposed to heat and dust, while the one in the passenger area usually is fine.

Scotty- I use one of those car toppers for pizza delivery, I closed my back left car door on the end of the topper cord (palm sized rubber ball) right where the door would seal shut. Now I cant keep my door closed. I can get it to shut by pressing up as I shut it- but when I go over bumps it disengages and the ajar light goes on. Door doesnt swing open, but something isnt staying shut. I dont want to run the risk of the ajar light coming on when Im away from the vehicle. (Its a 2000 Camry. How should I fix this?

I rented a Durango once. I never heard of the engine turning off. I freaked out, initially. WTH? Yea, I figured what was up pretty quickly but, I too thought what a scam. They will run through starters like crazy. I didnt even think about the engine wear. That is such a bad idea. I hear that feature can be disabled. I plan on keeping myself F-100s. I have a 53 flathead and a 62 302. Both are doing well. Funny, I actually rented the Durango to go view the 62 in California last year.

On the subject of engine wear at startup, its worth bearing in mind that all engine components - even those at the top - always have a film of oil on them that protects them for the few seconds it takes for the oil to be pumped up to the top after you turn the key. Indeed, there are numerous YT videos that confirm you can drain the oil pan and run an engine for a long time before the oil film on the components wears off and damage starts occurring.
