1, 100hp Lucid Air v Tuned BMW M3: DRAG RACE

It s time for the drag race you didn t realise you needed Until today! We ve got our hands on an all-new, 1, 111hp Lucid Air Dream Performance, and it s about to go head-to-head against a BMW M3! So normally you would say this will be a slam dunk for the Lucid, after all, a stock BMW M3 comes equipped with a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six which is good for 510hp and 650Nm. However, while this M3 comes with the same engine, it s been tuned and can now deliver an impressive 750hp and 900Nm! All this power is sent through the same 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 1, 780kg. So then we have the Lucid. It s equipped with two electric motors, and they combine to produce an eye-watering 1, 111hp and 1, 390Nm of torque. But of course, being an EV, it s pretty damn heavy, tipping the scales at 2, 383kg. It s also SO much more expensive than the BMW, rolling up with a price tag of over 193, 000!

I have reviewed a Lucid Air Performance (I also have a tuned G82 M4. There is a launch procedure for it to rip off the line, which I'm not sure was performed correctly here, and the car also has to be in Sprint. But yes, its initial acceleration is less vicious than a Plaid or even Taycan Turbo S. The power builds more gradually and more like an ICE, which I also found strange. But this is a luxury car and it's built to perform as such. The 1250HP Lucid Sapphire is the opposite, it's faster than a Plaid and is frightening in Sapphire Mode thanks to a third motor.

Before I watch it, I'm gonna call it here: the M3 has _no_ chance, no matter the tune. Electric cars are too quick on the accelerator, what with their instant torque and all. Depending on the tune it might have a chance in the roll race, but that's a big if.
Edit: just heard the figures, it's the same Tom Wriggley tuned M3 from last time, it's gonna get smoked. Has to.
Edit 2: completely flipped my prediction on it's head, I'll be damned!

The way electric cars are built still its still doing more damage to the planet than a conventional car, with the battery materials being transported on ships etc.
People know. Some of us see the point with electric cars, some who are ecomentalists disagree, but they only see what they want to see.

I guess it goes to show that you can tune any car to beat another car. In the end, stock BMWs can t beat a Lucid or a Tesla Plaid but if you tune a M3 - in this case - it barely can beat a Lucid. But it definitely doesn t mean BMWs are faster cars.

There is literally nothing more visually pleasing than when the wheel speed on the car matches with the frame rate of the camera and it appears the wheel is sitting still and sometimes the wheel appears to start going backwards.

This has been mentioned by others a million times, a stock turbo S with 650ps is pitched against cars with at least 200ps more and still wins! We need to see a turbo S with +200ps, only THEN will there be a fair comparison
reply

Uhmm, I don't get it. You want the fastest electric saloon vs a tuned BMW and you choose. that! Over a Tesla Plaid? Why! I mean electric cars have one name in tha past 10 yeard and it is Tesla.
reply

I would love to see drag races between something like a stock M3 and the tuned M3. Same with the mustangs and Audi's. We all know the tuned car will win, but by how much? And is the tune worth it?
reply

The difference in power and price between those two cars doesn't logically allow them to have the same performance. It's a win for the M3 basing on value for money let alone the beautiful sound.
reply

350hp difference from those 2 cars? I wouldnt have bet on this. This S58 AWD is a weapon like nuclear weapon how can it handle 1100hp elec? Well we haven t seen yet this S58 with 1000hp

The Bmw has Pilotspot 4S! And the Lucid some standard low resistance crap for economy, but them both on 4S or even better, CUP2 and the breaking test should be interesting
reply

Put that 3 serie against a 911 Turbo S. Then you know if it's fast. And of the they it's a BMW no more no less.
Driving in that Lucid is awesome. Nice car that is.

The Lucid did really well since it does not market itself as a performance car, more of a luxury cruiser. Can t wait to see how the Saphire(the proper sporty one) does.
reply

With that kind of power, reliability goes right out of the window. People do not realise, the car makes that kind of power as stock for a reason. Keep it stock!
reply

The sales people when I did my test drive with my dad said the lucid motors were designed more for top end power somehow instead of launching.
reply

Bmw have the fastest 6cyl engines overall HP per HP it even beats gtr and Porsche on 1/4 but not at 0-60 and I just laugh at the hellcat
reply

I am assuming the tune is for regular pump gas on the M3? I wonder what that M3 would do on an E85 tune? Probably in the 9s in the 1/4.
reply

So if we're comparing this to the Camissa Lucid/Plaid/Bugatti race - does that mean this BMW would beat a Bugatti off the line?
reply

I was astonished when the Lucid lost the drag race. I think there is a tier above that model that is faster (and more expensive.
reply

Haha it s like lucid was listening to yanni and Matt comment LoL lucid secretly gave it a secret juice over the air update LoL
