New Mercedes CLE revealed: Better than a BMW 4 Series!

Meet the Mercedes CLE! It s an all-new car that rolls up as a replacement for the C-Class Coupe, C-Class Cabriolet, E-Class Coupe & E-Class Cabriolet That s right, four cars rolled into one! The question is, does this approach offer enough to strike fear into BMW and Audi? Well let s take a look over the car. Starting with the design, it s certainly pretty striking! Up top there s a newly-designed, big grille, which is flanked either side by newly-designed, thinner headlights. Around the side you ll find some cool alloy designs, and around the back Mercedes has gone for a simpler design than other new cars in its line-up But that s no bad thing! Sure, the side profile looks relatively similar to the outgoing C-Class, but all-in-all there s no denying this is a good-looking car! Step inside and the interior seems all-too familiar to the current C-Class. But just like the side profile, this is no bad thing, as the interior is absolutely gorgeous! Not only will you find a huge infotainment screen stretching up from the centre console to the dash, you ll also be treated to a number of colour combinations, along with a cabin swamped with soft-touch materials. This is one seriously impressive interior! When it comes to engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel options to choose from. The entry-level is the CLE 200, which is a 2-litre 4 cylinder coupled with an EV motor to deliver around 200hp. The range-topper will be the CLE 450, which should be able to deliver 381hp from a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine! It should also propel you to 60mph in about 4. 4-seconds. What s more, we expect an AMG edition to be unveiled in the future, which is likely to come equipped with the same 6-cylinder engine that s being developed for the forthcoming E63. With that in mind, we expect it to be able to produce at least 700hp! So what do you think, was this a masterstroke by Mercedes to combine these cars? Or should they have kept the C & E-Class coupes separate?

Mercedes has done this before with the CLK in the 90s early 2000s. Considering the outgoing C and E coupes were nearly identical on the outside, this looking like the outgoing C coupe isn't that off-putting. The last CLK looked more C and the one before looked more E. I think like the A5, this will age better than the more polarizing 4, but then I read against the splitting of the 3 line into the 3 and 4 series considering how long the 3 was around, it would be like I'd Mercedes all of a sudden decided to call the S a Z or if Chevrolet decided the Corvette will now be called just a CV.

What's wrong with Mercedes these days, they're just like linking and welding the pieces of aluminium with each other and hell yeah we got a new model called CLE it's the replacer of the C class coupe and E class coupe, I can't see any hence or similarities to the C class or the E class, we're living sad days guys Mercedes cars is getting crap, let's have a bit of hoping that the AMG version will add a bit of drama, I'm about to cry

I was hoping mercedes would keep making the c, e, s coupe. I was really dissappointed when bmw made the 8 series as a replacement of 6 series and now mercedes is doing it again. The only thing mercedes was missing a car like 4 series gran coupe or a5 sportsback. They made it worse with combining coupe and cabrio of c and e series but this is also an opportunity for a hatchback 4 door. If they make one that is really a big move.

A lot of criticism from a lot of people, which is fair enough. But those critics have to understand the manufacturers base their decisions based on actual purchasing customers. So unless all these critics are purchasers, manufacturers will cater to actual buyers, who most likely wont blink an eye on style, technology, chasis setup etc.
But what do i know, just keep criticising as if i would buy the vehicle anyways

My dad works at the production line at Mercedes and saw this car as a prototype, but when he explained to me what it looks like i was confused if he meant cla, c coupe or e coupe. Now I know why
This ist the new c class, not e class replacement. The look, the size, the interior, the bodylines, everything is c class.
Kinda sad that it will be a money printer when they price it like an e class.

It is a nice car (if you choose the good engine. 350e minimum). The interior seems to be perfect. It will be better if they produce AMG V8 twin turbo for this CLE. Anyway, i am still a fan of the AUDI RS5 (2 doors) I am waiting for the upgrade of this wonderful car. The RS5 with a V8 4. 2 liters and 450 hp has never been replaced.

From back it looks like 4 series, mostly because of the rear lights, which are very simillar.
Boring design overall, it seems germans has lost it completely and koreans are making more interesting looking cars these days, just look at Genesis. Gone are the best days for bmw, merc and audi.

I have current c coupe, and I've been waiting for this. This looks like an upgrade I'd get, looks good, and compact. It's certainly not an E class coupe as it seems to compact, guess I'll have to see it in the flesh. I think they'll price it out of the range of a typical C coupe buyer.

Mercedes are experts at making all of their cars look like the Eastern European base spec model. Fake exhausts, fake vents, fake grilles, cheap black plastic absolutely everywhere. Nothing luxurious looking about it at all.

Great Vid, very informative! However can we please get more content on the new C63, it would be great to see it in a drag race vs the BMW M3 Comp. Also can we get a review on the new ford ranger. Please!

Mercedes are just lost, this makes no sense looks like the CLA but a 2 door version. Atleast with Audi and BMW their ranges make sense and to the point. The current E class coupe was gorgeous.

When I saw it i was surprised, i was waiting for that car and I didnt expect it to look this good. I dont know why a lot of people hate on this design, its one of the best MB designs in a while

As a CLA owner who's looking for a replacement. It looks GREAT! However, I'm not sure about the interior, or more specifically about the touch buttons. I prefer real -- physical -- things.
reply

I wish they would bring back the S-class coupe/the old CL (similar to how BMW resurrected the 8 series. miss the days when they used to produce them. gorgeous rocketship of a thing!
reply

looks like a computer mouse. looks as interesting and has just as much character as one too. Just another boring euroblob to be leased on finance by everyone and their nan.
reply

The next trend will be the elimination of the center screen with graphics moved to the driver binnacle, and a return to buttons for climate, radio, heated seats and dampers.
reply

I d honestly buy the CL from over a decade ago over this.
What is happening with BMW and Mercedes recently? Is the design team shooting up on the floor or something?

Having read more comments. There are many Mercedes likers on here and I am one of them. I have a Clk Amg 55 and I love it. The shape of this car is similar to the Clk.

I really thought the E stands for EV. A coupe/convertible EV would be nice to have in Mercedes EV line up, this could be a great alternative to the Tesla Roadster.
reply

Looks way better than BMW 4-Series which front with these huge grill and all the lines around always looks like it comes from the factories crash test center.
