Change your car with Carwow: This might just be one of the most unusual drag races we’ve ever lined up on Carwow! Mat’s brought together 11 completely different cars, ranging from a small, affordable electric hatchback to one of the most powerful performance estates ever built. Some of the cars in this race are fully electric, several are plug-in hybrids, and others rely on traditional turbocharged petrol engines. With such a varied mix of drivetrains, power outputs and weights, the results might not be as predictable as you think. Let’s take a closer look at the cars taking part. The least powerful car in the race is the 2026 Citroen e-C3, a small electric hatchback designed to offer affordable EV driving. It produces 113hp and 125Nm of torque from a single electric motor, and it weighs around 1, 440kg. Like most electric cars, it uses a single-speed automatic gearbox. Next up is the 2026 Peugeot 208 1. 2 Hybrid 136, which combines a small turbocharged petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance. This setup produces 136hp and 230Nm of torque from a 1. 2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, and the car weighs about 1, 228kg. Power is delivered through a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Representing plug-in hybrid technology is the BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring, which combines electric and petrol power to deliver around 184hp and approximately 300Nm of torque. Its 1. 5-litre plug-in hybrid engine works with an E-CVT hybrid transmission, and the car weighs 1, 710kg. Moving further up the power ladder we have the Skoda Octavia vRS. This practical performance hatchback produces 265hp and 370Nm of torque from a 2. 0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It weighs approximately 1, 570kg and uses a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Producing the same horsepower figure is the Volkswagen Tiguan 265hp. Despite being an SUV, it shares a similar turbocharged engine layout. It produces 265hp and 400Nm of torque from a 2. 0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, weighs 1, 750kg, and uses a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Next in the line-up is the Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor, a large electric SUV. It produces 299hp and 490Nm of torque from a single electric motor, but it’s also one of the heaviest cars here at 2, 500kg. Like most EVs, it uses a single-speed automatic transmission. After that comes the sporty Cupra Formentor VZ3. This performance SUV produces 333hp and 420Nm of torque from a 2. 0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It weighs 1, 640kg and uses a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Next up is the 2026 Audi S5 Avant, which brings a more traditional performance setup. It produces 362hp and 550Nm of torque from a 3. 0-litre turbocharged V6 engine. The car weighs 1, 995kg and sends power through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 2026 Omoda 9 Noble PHEV AWD Auto comes next with a powerful plug-in hybrid system producing around 449hp and 700Nm of torque. It uses a 1. 5-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid engine, weighs 2, 200kg, and is paired with a hybrid automatic transmission. Another powerful plug-in hybrid estate in the race is the 2026 Volvo V60 Ultra T8 PHEV AWD. This car produces 455hp and 709Nm of torque thanks to a 2. 0-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder plug-in hybrid system. It weighs 2, 100kg and uses an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Finally, at the top of the power rankings is the 2026 BMW M5 Touring, which is by far the most powerful car in the line-up. This performance estate combines a 4. 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with plug-in hybrid technology to produce an incredible 727hp and 1, 000Nm of torque. It weighs 2, 550kg and sends power through an 8-speed automatic gearbox. So with everything from small hatchbacks to massive hybrid performance estates taking part, the stage is set for a seriously unpredictable race. Will the lightweight cars get the best launch Will the electric and hybrid cars use their instant torque advantage Or will the sheer power of the BMW M5 Touring make it impossible to beat There’s only one way to find out watch the drag race! If you enjoyed the video, don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe to Carwow, and make sure you turn on notifications so you never miss one of our drag races. Long termer garage & Mat's M5:

i drove a xc90 T8 polestar(455hp) and i was really impressed a suv with that kinda weight and only a 2l turbocharged engine moved like it did, around 5sec to 60mph and 700nm torque that i feelt even with the weight it has, was superfun to feel the acceleration it had, what was more impressive i averaged arund 0. 3 to 0. 4 pr 10km during a mountain pass on a 400km trip, thats crazy for a hybrid suv of that size and not driving for pure economy in mind.

12: 09 I get the reference, everyone old enough gets the reference but Miss Daisy never drove her car.
That was the point of the film, she was _driven, _ she did not drive.
Morgan Freeman was her driver and she expected him to drive at a leisurely pace.
You drive this car, like you are _driving_ Miss Daisy, would be an accurate put down.

Not to be too much of a tin foil hatter but I really do not like the fact you can’t open the fuel cap without pressing a button on the touch screen!
What if say a dystopian government didn’t want you to be able to drive your car, the cars computer can literally be programmed to stop you opening the fuel cap

When you say how many miles per hour the car goes, please say it in kilometers per hour also for those of us who don't live in countries that don't have miles per hour! I live in Sweden and here we have kilometers per hour! Your new BMW M5 does 190 miles per hour, that's 305 kilometers per hour for me!

People had small 3 door hatchbacks with kids back in the 90's and 2000's and nobdy moaned about kids in the back. I would rather it be harder to get the kids in and have a fun car. It's like who has the biggest boot! don't care if it's smaller just buy less shopping. People are getting soft and lazy.
reply

Why oh why do people like two of your staff but pure petrol, petrol head cars like Tiguan R's or Octavia bars, then drive like Miss Daisy! If you're gonna buy one, use it and enjoy it. If you're not going to use it, buy a PHEV and your driving Miss Daisy will bring far more economy and cost savings.

I'm close to unsubscribing due to the braggadocio of Matt's expensive cars and the narcissistic self promotion. Sure he gets tons of money from Carwow but I'm not interested in following and supporting his extravagant life style while the rest of us struggle to pay rent. Maybe just stick to car reviews.

I did my mechanic apprenticeship with volvo back in the early 90s.
The cool car then was the 480 turbo or the 740i.
Or the 440 lol. Since then i now live in Aus and a auto mech on the mines.
Never see the old volvos here would never buy a car after 2015. all crap and a trap.

What's the point of buying a plug-in hybrid if you don't plan to charge it from the outside from the start, i. e. with cables! Either someone wanted to release this video on April Fool's Day, or they wanted to make themselves out to be a not smart man.
reply

Now please tell me what the actual buck should one care about fuel efficiency with a 700hp car that costs 140 grands.
Like what, someone robbed your bank just AFTER you bough the car and you are waiting to see if the ensurance covers it

In a real world setting that Audi and the Formentor are monsters. I really like the looks and performance of the Cupra. Would love to get them in the States but I'm sure they have their own set of problems like everything.
reply

Miguel. so you are the one who ruins EVERY drag race by cutting EXACTLY when one car begings to walk or catch up the other one Stop editing like a 90's MTV music video with 5000 cuts every second!
reply

All this same as the Golf R talk.
But Matt and the guy in the volvo wagon with the leaf spring rear suspension missed their opportunity for same as in a Corvette. Shame.

reply

rubbish this M5 is! a fat tank forced by political decitions to be part electric. But who cares England has not become absurdistan by accident. The New World Order is no conspiracy!
reply

You can see the M5 is a long term loaner because who in his right mind would PAY 5k to have a car painted in the Color of an 80y/o's west. or a bandaid. or very light baby puke.

loving these 'it's very economical' comments - my old 2014 Insignia 2. 0d VXLine managed 80mpg on a run and averaged 66mpg on A roads and town driving. World is going backwards
reply

Id always take an estate over an suv honestly cannot stand the suv culture. A 2014 titanium x sport 2. 2 tdci mondeo is a way better car than any of the kugas that replaced it.
reply

I dont usually comment on videos, but i couldn't help myself in saying that the shiny black plastic trim on the exterior of the new 5series makes it look like a cheap toy
reply

surely the sunroof being closed will make the interior get less sun damaged and in summer it could probably cause the car to heat up much less than with the sunroof open
reply

When I had a golf mark 7. 5 I used my OBD2 Bluetooth reader to change the auto hold to release earlier and it made it far smoother yet never rolled back on a hill.
