Toyota Tundra: Crank, No Start John: 3rd and last comment / question re: Tundra Fuel Pump Control Connector; Let's see. 120 per hour for Diag Time. 20 minutes to vacuum 2 per minute = 40 for a good Vacuum!
NOW What! Seems to me instead of moving / tightening loose contacts. much better and quicker to just install a new pigtail. PLUS. how does one Warrant a connector with a poorly seating housing and pins with questionable contact tensions / lives?
Confession: Yep. as a DIYer only responsible to my own little coddled self. easy to play Monday-morning-quarterback. so allow me to close by saying again: THANK YOU, ERIC!

Eric, I'm so sorry you have to put up with pedantic gits. When you call that device a relay you're using the generic term which will allow the broadest section of the audience to understand the function of the control device. To be a bit more specific it could be called a SSR (Solid State Relay) and that's still a relay. Nobody, not even this electronics guy (except maybe out of curiosity) cares if there's a thyristor, silicon control rectifier (SCR, or MOSFET doin' the controlin'. It's a relay. Everybody understands that. So you just go right ahead and keep calling it a relay. This ain't no 'lectronics class.
I think I'm more comfortable with what our friend Ivan (PHAD) sprays into the connectors, DeOxite D5 Which is pretty benign to the rubber parts and is a very good contact cleaner. Yeah you get away with it this time cause the connector housing was cracked. Thank you for you excellent tutorials. Don't let the turkeys get you down.

When the ECM's hit the heavy duty trucks mid 1990's, I bought a OTC terminal test lead set. Soon learned how to do tension pull test. I am just a road service learning on the job. There were times when the truck just came out of Detroit engine shop with an unfixed issue. Terrified me. But soon learned the first thing to do was unplug connector and tension test. It was amazing that the big boys would over look doing that check. It is something I checked at sensors.
Up until 2004 I was a guru, now I got to go get the kids to hold my hand on this after treatment stuff.

Don t worry about the vernacular: as an electrical engineer, at the end of the day our goal is to figure out what the thing is supposed to do. The function can usually be distilled simply: a pin either goes to ground or to a higher voltage from ground. If it s an NPN BJT, it turns on and pulls the circuit to ground when the middle pin voltage increases and we can distill the problem to power, ground, control, or component fault. Complexity is the root of all evil, make things simple: )

I despair for the appalling state of the repair techs that claim to be pros and yet you seem to using the most elementary elimination processes to achieve the repair at a third of the cost and in less than half the time. For shame. I'm surprised there aren't more lawsuits being brought against these numbskulls in the industry. Americans deserve better - much better. Rant over. Thank God for you and the few like you, Mr O. You are a credit to your craft and your community.

I've run across that plenty of times. Especially on a Clutch Switch by the accumulators on Chevy Trucks. People take them off and start jamming a paper clip in them trying to figure out why the compressor is not working. Except in the newer trucks that doesn't even work because it's not wired directly to the clutch any more it goes the the HVAC control module which still won't turn on the compressor unless other conditions are met.

Eric, I feel with you. I had to get glasses in my early 40's and I bloody hate them. Sometimes it is really difficult to see fine detail close up (I have multifocals) and they smudge all the time while working on cars. It realls pisses me off, but there is no easy laser cure for age related macro degeneration unfortunately. In my case I am probably too old anyway. But it still really craps me off having dirty glasses. Nice diagnostic though.

YOU are CERTAINLY more courageous that this would-be DIYer. 1st thing I would do is don a 3M mask, goggles and Nitrile gloves. and clean out that engine compartment. Into a sealable trash bag. then the trash barrel. Whew!
Perhaps even open all the vehicle windows. Whew! again.
NOW I can go watch your courageous undertakings.
P. S. Greatly appreciate your fine work. and your EXTRA DENTAL COURAGE, TOO!

I really enjoy watching you work - always very thorough! I have always wondered how folks receive information on what's currently wrong with their vehicle is likely something caused my someone else, or perhaps their lack of attention to detail (messing up a connector with their technique, etc) - though in a case like this, everyone's probably happy with a no-parts-required repair - just an hour or two of labor!

OK: 1 suggestion / critic; instead of blowing all that debris into the air or your shop. and possible molecules of questionable origin that could end up in your lungs or in the Office / Kitchen. set up a large Wet/Dry VACUUM that VENTS to the outside world and vacuum EVERYTHING BEFORE beginning work. And add 20 minutes or so to your DIAG time!

I doubt all the people that talk crap haven't fixed the amount of Vehicles that you have Eric. They have a problem with there tounge tripping over there bottom lip. I ve been watching your videos for years. I'm always amazed at how you find the problems. Plus filming the video at the same time. Take care and keep up the great videos.

your patient and thorough diagnostics come through for the customer yet again. I'm teaching my grandson to diagnose and this is the lesson I focus on, start from the beginning, no matter who has worked on it before. Check everything as you go. So many electrical issues boil down to the smallest unforeseen issue. Great job man

Very good work, Kind Sir. I'm certain you are correct about someone jamming incorrect wires into that connector. Don't sweat the glasses- I've worn them since1953. May I suggest you get glasses with a plain top and a close up bottom segment and wear them all day? Best wishes from Ohio where we don't have snow today.

Speaking of getting older and your eyesight, I'm 69 and been wearing glasses since I turned 15. What is bad is with something's I have to have my glasses to see, while other things I can't see with my glasses on and yet other things I can't see with or without my glasses! Yep! Ain't getting old fun!
