Absolute madness! Ive watched a slug of your videos and when the dealers have to cry uncle and bring them to you theres the problem lady. Your skill is awesome but this video tells me that finding someone with your knowledge and equipment to tackle the huge wad of spaghetti and sensors crammed - shoehorned into the vehicles we pay many thousands of dollars for to me qualifies as Insanity. Someone like me who grew up working on 40s, 50s - 70s cars where you could change a plug without partially dismantling the engine leaves me shaking my head. Working on what I own now with what I know and the tools I have has put me/ us in many an untenable situation. And I see it getting worse and more and more expensive. The move to electric with equivalent or greater range and turn around in charging cant come soon enough. Death to the internal combustion engine. Hurry up graphene batteries. I dont have that many hairs left to pull out.

My moms old Malibu died due to it starting off with the safety, security system in her car. Wouldnt let her start her car until after 15 mins because the car thought she was stealing it. I own a 2004 Dodge Intrepid, I havent noticed anything with the security system I dont know if mine even has one, it has no light on the dash for Armed/Disarmed. Starter has been acting up here and there. Gotta wait for it to fully start acting up to take it to the shop. Im not in love with the way dodge built the intrepid. Horrible for repairs, such a tight area.

I doubt very little that you do Eric, and may have missed something, but I have a question. If we probed (poked) the comm wire NEAR the ECU, and disconnect the BCM indeed we see the loss of comm from the ECU. However, did we not check the pin right at the ECU? Is it possible there was a pad pin connection right at the ECU (so ie, would need to frontprobe its connector, or something along those lines. Unlikely scenario, but did we make an ABSOLUTE diagnosis here? My thought is a bad pin at the ECU connector could have also been the cause.

I wish I was close to your shop. I need somebody trustworthy enough to redo some modules in my 2002 Durango. The pcm failed and was replaced with one from the junkyard. I also had to replace the body module a month before. Now it runs great, but the climate and abs modules were not happy. From what I understand, it involves reprogramming the body module with the correct options for the vehicle, then running a calibration command to the climate control and setting the pinion ratio for the abs

IT guy here that also does his own wrenching. I have been binge watching your videos. I am impressed with your troubleshooting ability with regards to the computer systems and related modules on these vehicles. It takes time but as you say gotta go slow to be fast. Truer words have never been spoken. I regularly train a team of help desk and project engineers and will definitely be using that phrase in the future.

Eric, kudos to you for being the master of vehicle IT. You are more than a mechanic. In fact a program analyst. Your videos involve so much centralized data, not many mainstream mechanics could handle. I am always impressed by your ability. And a bit ashamed to admit you have more knowledge then my mechanic, who is always good. Long time viewer and always learning. Thanks.

A 1 wire com line open will have no signal. Voltage cannot flow through an open wire therefore com signals cannot be transmitted ( in the case of unplugging modules to see which sides transmitting what) as soon as i saw the diagram and the module bus ping it was pretty easy to conclude that the transmission portion of the ecm module to module wasnt functioning.

Other than looking at DATA STREAMS from the pcm and the body module, can we use any other tool, volt meter, test light, because I don't have anything that would show the actual data s steam like your scope? My scan tool probably wouldn't have shown the module list and that the pcm data was missing either. Any ideas? Thanks. Mr. O.

Learned something Eric. I like the headlight bulb to check wire continuity. That's a really good idea and quicker. Are the connectors paralleled so if you unplug a comms connector you only lose what that connector was plugged into? In other words, the ring doesn't lose continuity and the other modules can still communicate.

Hey Eric O enjoy your videos, a quick question for you, I notice you have many different scan tools, my questyis this is there an affordable scan tool that a DIY mechanic can get. I am retired but like to keep my hands on cars and trucks, lawn tractors, etc. so cannot afford a snapon.
