Thank you for this video, Dr. O! I have watched your videos for a number of months now, solely for entertainment and education up until today. I recently picked up a well-loved '05 GMC Sierra half-ton; I bought it with the money light on via this exact same DTC. I knew you had done a video on this before and, sure enough, my YT history showed it a few months ago. To note, the procedure is the exact same on at least the '03-'06 model years for Chevy/GMC but, at least on mine, I was able to re-use the hoses going to the various other components. Took me about 15-20 minutes all-in with nothing more than a flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamps to remove the old part and to tighten them back on to the new part. Watching your videos has given me the confidence to do these easier DIY jobs - heck, I told my wife it was easier than changing the oil in these newer vehicles - and I thank you for doing these videos. I watch new ones almost the same day you post them! Keep up the fine work.

I feel really fortunate. My 2002 Chevy Pickup spent its first 11 years on the salted roads of Indianapolis, and then I moved out west where they barely even allow salt on french fries. I've never had a single problem with my evap system, or any electrical connection issues, etc. The only problem I ever had was that a support tube of some type that connected the two sides of the frame up front rusted through. That was a 150 piece of tube from GM. Looking back I should have used angle iron.

Hey Eric, I have an O8 Escalade in my shop with this same code, I tested the circuit as you did, initially I had power on the red wire but was not getting anything from the white wire, found the wire was broken at the front drive shaft so I repaired it, my test light illuminates but will not turn off with scanner, disconnected ecm and tested the white and red for shorts, with ecm connected on comes the light. I am suspecting driver in ecm what do you think?

Did this truck have issues with trying to fill the gas tank? Ive got an 07 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 5. 3 V8 and I am lead to believe that the problem is this exact issue with the vent solenoid. I've got a check engine light with a p0446 code that comes up and at the gas pump, it won't let me pump at full speed and will automatically kick it off (it does this mostly in the winter time when it's cold) Any input helps. Thanks.

Good video with accurate information. I would of used a volt meter however the snapon test light with bannana clips is great. Please make more videos. There are to many amateur videos with incorrect Diagnostics methods/ procedures and incorrect information on YouTube.

I spent three years in Northern Illinois in the late 70s working in my brother in laws shop and remember the rust on vehicles. Being back in California for the last 40 years you forget about how much vehicles rust from the winter conditions back east and the Midwest.

Any way to turn solenoid on/off without a scan tool? Ive replaced both solenoid and charcoal filter, but still cant fill up. Suspecting it is a broken circuit in wiring, but would have to be able to turn on/off to diagnose.

When these fail can they cause a fuel smell under the truck? Mine is doing this along with other issues that point to the solenoid going bad and was hoping its all related before I buy a new solenoid

great vid, is there a way to actuate these solenoids without the expensive scan tool? maybe with a no screen model scan tool or a laptop + odb2 adaptor w/certain software or some other method?

I have a 2006 tahoe 5. 3 with the same code p0449 but I'm smelling gas fumes, has anyone else has the gas fume smell? or could I also have a cracked hose?
