Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 2019 review - new -50k mega hatch packs 415bhp monster engine

Mercedes-AMG has combined the savagery of a true performance car with the civility of a small family hatchback in the new A 45 S. Delivering this level of performance without compromising vital areas such as usability is a remarkable achievement. There-s no doubt the car is astonishingly fast and totally composed, but is it any more engaging than the current hot hatch benchmark, the Honda Civic Type R? Perhaps not. And then there-s the small matter of the -50, 000 price tag

I've had a VW GTI for the past few years and the whole hot-hatch concept is so incredibly functional. 55 cubic feet in that vehicle, very close to SUV territory. If this AMG is anywhere close to that then you're paying for 1) performance 2) Mercedes engineering and 3) versatile layout and cargo area. Likely worth the money. And by not seeing so many around you on the road also has its own benefits.

Great review! No frills and to the point. Comparing it to the dynamic abilities of the type-r. interesting.
The way I see it, no huge difference. Disregarding of course the exterior appearance.
The extra price tag. for the 4 wheel drive, the interior quality and materials, for the infotainment and the badge.
Does it deserve it? Not exactly the same target group.

Unfortunately, the looks are very ordinary, especially in profile. a hint of earlier marks of Astra dare I say. Certainly needs the, probably very expensive, body kit. And still lacks the character of a straight 6 or a 5 pot RS. It's not about pure numbers!

Great car but expensive and as much as I can admire the engineering, I dislike that Mercedes have very -tinselly- dashboards and interiors (and often odd controls) - too much bling. Some dodgy crossed-arms steering there too!

-the current benchmark is the Civic Type R- - Is that why it's 5 seconds per lap slower than the Megane RS Trophy on Spa-Francorchamps? There's only one FWD hot hatch to beat, and it's the Megane Trophy R.

I bet they have used same bolts and nuts that they've used on other engines.
It looks very tame but I quite like the Q-car look
BMW M2 has the same power and doesn't 'require' AWD?

Honestly a bit boring review. Sure checks the basic list of what to say in a review. but where is the creative, new and fun part of the review

It-s not the most powerful 4 cylinder ever made, Mitsubishi brought out the evo fq 440 years ago which had 440hp from a 2 litre 4 cylinder

They replaced the engine because of the -needed- performance or because the old one likes to break itself down quite often? Mmh.

-these guys knows what they are doing- - talking about Mercedes. Oh really? The last century confirmed already my friend
