I rechecked the updates on the data you provided and it is updated every 3 months, going back over the last few years the data points have been bouncing up and down like a yoyo. And yes Honda engine reliability has been overstated for some time now, they did win ADAC in 1993 and their cars from the early 90's were good, but looking at the data that you provided me with the cars with the least reliable engines came from Rover (guess who uses Honda k series engines) with a 1 in 13 failure rate.

I now own the very same B6 featured in this video. I did a lot of research as I was looking for a relatively understated and comfortable road car with individuality, class and serious performance. The B6 was the best fit I could find by a mile and is a dream to drive. I will never drive it on a track but on the road having tested loads of similarly priced cars, this one is stunning. It's my first alpina and will not be my last. I cannot recommend enough and it even has space for the kids!

I understand that Rover and Honda both made their own k series engines and Rover most used the D series Honda engines in their cars, but remember Rover and Honda were joined at the Hip for decades swapping engines and other components (ie the diesel accord used a purely rover engine. This was so much so that just before Rover was sold to Nanjing in 2005 for stripping Honda had to take legal action to get Rover to return the Honda tooling and blueprints that they were still using.

Man, are you seriously stating that Honda has less reliable engines than Mercedes? :D And where is that website with those references? You dont need to check sites and references for that, since even the kids know that Honda builds one of the most (if not the most) reliable and top notch engines in the world! Honda is equal to reliability and durability, and that didnt came from the air, but being experienced threw the years by millions of people: )

Uhm, both really awesome cars, but I don't really see the point of this comparison. A big fast luxurious GT car vs. a high performance sports car. The B6 is a -lovely thing to drive- vs. the -busy and more industrial- GT-R. I'd take the BMW/Alpina any day since I'm not trying to brake any records while driving around town.

There are a lot of differences between these cars. While 4 people can ride very comfortably in the B6, the GTR has decent seats for only two people, and the GTR is still less comfortable. The B6 is also more refined and luxurious, it is not made for track. Actually the time of the B6 is not bad.

If you look on the website that the article references and check the actual data it is very different to the results that the article claims for this year, it states Honda was first when it is actually 13th for engine reliability and that Mercedes benz actually has the most reliable engines: D

you ought to try driving the GTR in comfort mode i have no issues & i use mine around London. where the roads are just terrible! & 2 totally different cars you wouldn't go to a gun fight with a knife so why compare the BMW to a gtr! 1 is a hooligans car & the other a gentleman's chariot

The thing is, customers looking at the Alpina wouldn't even consider the GTR, and customers looking at the GTR probably can't afford the Alpina nor would want it just because you can compare the 2 cars in some respects, doesn't mean you should.
