Building a WW2 Foxhole: One Day Build with 1965 Entrenching Tool

Inspired by my recent ww2 bunker renovation build I wanted to build a ww2 foxhole bushcraft shelter in the woods and camp in it overnight. I used simple building tools for this project, a 1965 entrenching tool, a small folding saw, a bushcraft knife and a small axe. I have always been fascinated by world war two, and I wanted to experience what it might have been like to build an emergency defensive fighting position with just minimal tools in one day

Looks grand, personally I don't think I would have enough patience to carry out a build like this. Perhaps if I had more time away from my studies I'd be able to do more outdoor camping. I always enjoy watching your videos, just reminds me of what I don't do and frankly should do more of.

Good effort Mike, I was in the infantry for 7 years so dug holes in the ground for a living mostly in Germany where most of the training areas were sandy, shell crapes are what we dug as emergency cover, we were mostly mechanized. thou.

Great job! An idea for authentic dress and equipment, contact your local reenactment groups, they are usually very particular of how authentic time era pieces are, they may even lend you some goods and wear for your shoot.

At a glance it appears your entrenching tool is of West German make. They are basically the same as the ones that the Wehrmact used during the war. They were better than the American issued e-tools of the same period.

I should put you in touch with my British Para buddies who do WW2 re-enactment. They have amazing gear and recreations from the WW2 era, including vehicles. Message me if you want their contact info.

Speaking of WWII, your dad mentioned something about you moving back to the area where he lives. Did you sell the place with the ww2 bunker? It s really none of my business, I was just curious.

Back during the WW2 war, each fox hole was dug out in teams of two's and fours. Your building alone and so far looking good you deserve a rest! Thanks for sharing

YES, YOU WILL NEED A CROSS TIE TO SUPPORT THAT ROOF, WHEN THE BAGS OF SAND ARE LOADED WITH RAIN WATER. Very cool build. I look forward to the finished shelter.
