The Pallet Wood Cabin build series is back. This time we head to the woods and use more free pallet wood to build an outhouse for the off grid cabin site. As per previous cabin episodes, we construct the framework for the outhouse at my Dad's place, where we have access to better tools that get the build done faster. The outhouse should have been one of the first diy pallet wood projects to make, but we just never got round to doing it. It's great to finally have the outhouse built, and it ticks off another pallet wood project that we wanted to do at the cabin. We have plans for a few more smaller structures and another small shelter

Well done Maybe finding an abandoned potty with a good seat you can repurpose? And now that you have a place to park your a to find the relief you crave, beside the sawdust, you might find that putting your stove ash down the hole a good thing too. As to your heat and drought, it is full on here in the states too. Out in california, my daughter with her hubby and two kids had to evacuate and move down to her mom's place. My oldest daughter with her hubby and kid are next to evac. Here, in missouri, we have gone from moderate drought to severe and our crops are not doing well either. Corn and soybeans are greatly stunted and the kernels are not bound to be anywhere near high quality once the harvests are in. We had no spring, a late running winter and then straight into summer with high heat and very little rain. So, we have empathy for your situation as it is much like ours and most of the rest of our poor earth. Be safe and hope your run of heat ends soon.

Loved the vid Mike and that privy is awesome. I do agree with one of the other posts that the roof should be tilted toward the rear of the outhouse for the reasons he explained. You def need a toilet seat and you should be able to pick one up online or locally pretty cheap. I can picture someone sending you one through the post and having to pay the customs fees for a toilet seat, lol. I also think you need more than just sawdust to cover the. uh. you know. I was thinking some lime which you can pick up pretty easily and inexpensive. By the way, you need to name the privy, ha Once again, an awesome vid by a great father and son team. Cheers to ya mate and keep up the awesome work.

at a camp i build an outhouse once but we did something extra we smoked the insidesmoking the inside of your outhouse has a bonus the smoky smell stays for years and it overpowers the poopy smell then the outhouse never smells filthy it just smells smoky another thing after a no2 throw in some ash and sawdust or wood shavings this makes it smell less and when the pit is full move the whole outhouse over a couple of meters and fill in the pit and dig a new on in the outhouse lets say you do just that four times by the time pit nr 4 is full you can go back to pit nr 1 and you'll get some rich compost from that for the garden

Your timing is impeccable. Due to strong peer pressure from folks like yourself, Survival Lilly and Coal Cracker Bushcraft, I decided to start a bush craft camp on the far back edge of our property. A place to unwind, attempt primitive skills, and use as a hunting outpost. My best friend and his kids came over just this past Sunday to help clear the brush and small trees from the site (which created a nice pile of poles. An outhouse will be the very first structure we build. I hope to have his children become a large part of this project, and a bathroom is KEY My lovely wife would also appreciate it; )

Nice Definitely a nice thing to have now that you have the Tiki Bar We have an outhouse at our house. a 2 seater My daughters, when they were young, lived in our pond all day long. Since they were always wet, they weren't allowed to go into the house. Therefore, the double-seater out house was used a LOT They would swim to the end of the pond, get out and run into the woods to go to the bathroom, and would hold hands as they sat on the seats LOL One thing we have on our outhouse is a trap door in the back about halfway up the wall. Nice for easier spreading of the ash we threw in regularly.

You should make a compost bin, to place leaves and such in. so can start on making good compost for the garden. also Make sure you save your wood ash from fires. Put it in a bucket for when you use the outhouse. sprinkle some of the wood ash after you done your business. it will help control the smell and help a bit with insects. Also should try to find like a cheap or free solar light. that could put in and outside the outhouse for Night time use. Inside you could have a battery powered light. Like a button touch light.

A bucket of kitty litter below the seat works well as an outhouse waste management system. obviously more the better. I am partial to making a large pan under the seat, and having it accessible from outside the outhouse to make raking it out easier. use the facility, then sprinkle a couple scoops. I am also fond of making use of a solar vent fan to help air out an outhouse (yes it is an expense, and the idea of the series is to do it cheap or free. it is a luxury to be able to vent out an outhouse)

Here in the Rural Southeastern U. S. I have used these Outhouses many many times. An oval hole in the seat works much Better Also You might want to cover it with wood ashes from the fire. This would provide some Activated Charcoal to help absorb odors and other filth. You often see pictures of these with a 1/4 moon opening cut in the door. The moon was used to designate the WOMEN'S toilet. The outhouse for the men had a 5-pointed Star window in the door.

Love wat you guys do. just an after thought on the hole put u a plastic barrel in the hole with both ends cut out cut two hand holes at top to remove it when full that way u can move it around. to the next hole and drop it it in also if u leave it up a nit it'll be a retainer to keep urine inside it nit on your legs lol. also if u use used motor oil on the outside it'll preserve the wood better so it don't rot as quick and it'll look good just rub it in

Good on ya mate, i know the pain of taking apart pallet here in the states. i dont konw if they use straight nails over the pond but here we have twisted nails and once they are in its hella hard pulling them out without a pallet tool. Yes we have had many fires in the usa. california, New mexico. colorado and even yellowstone national park have caught ablaze. its been a crazy hot year for everyone. hope you guys are safe up there over yonder pond.
