Being able to Catch and Cook Fish is an important survival skill to have. We go fly fishing to catch fresh trout and cook the fish on the woodstove at our Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin in the woods. Trout are a fantastic eating fish, and can be cooked a number of different ways. Sometimes the simplest way without any seasoning can be best. Fly Fishing is a fairly traditional method of catching fish. Knowing what fly to use in different weather conditions and situation is a key fishing skill. Being that it is Winter, we opt for large trout flies with a weighted bead at the front to help get the fly down deep in the lake water. It wasn't long before myself and my Dad were catching fish We then went inside the Log Cabin at Rockbourne to talk through the fishing gear we used including: Fly Rods, Reels, Line and most importantly the Flies that were successful on the day We did a separate video on how to fillet, gut and clean a fish for the dinner table. This you can watch here: Once we had cleaned the fish, we took some fillets and headed to our wilderness cabin in the forest. Here we got the woodstove burning and we decided to pan fry the fish and also cook some mash potato, egg and cheese to go with it. We seasoned the fish with some salt, pepper and lemon juice. It sure tasted good Tp follow this up, we warmed up some homemade pan au chocolate in the stove pipe oven on the woodstove. Learning how to live off the land and forage, hunt and gather your own food is such an important survival skill. We've done a number of catch and cook videos, including some Bushcraft style spit roast trout over the campfire. As well as more common methods such as deep fried fish, battered fish, grilled fish and even smoked fish. You can use more primitive methods to catch fish, such as a willow fish trap, but we like to go searching for the fish as it is more exciting

Rainbow Trout are my favorite to catch and cook here in the US. Those you have are huge compared to the streams I used to fish in. I would stuff them with crab meat and sautee them with butter and light olive oil. We have great blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland and Virginia, so if NO fish were caught cakes were on the menu. You guys are totally awesome, I love your energy and the closeness of your relationship. I hope your ladies appreciate you. I would be right by you in the building of your home away from home but I know everyone needs their space. PS, Jaxx is your perfect equal for a pet.

Nice drone footage at the beginning. I love raw tuna as in sashimi and sush, and I'm a big fan of fried or grilled catfish as well as any good whitefish battered and fried up with fries(chips. I've never had scrambled eggs with fish, but I love scrambled eggs and potatoes too. I'm sitting here pulling an overnighter getting ready for work with a bottle of rum and you guys are making me so hungry. I love catch and cook videos, and thank you for still posting the filleting video with a link. Great vid guys. You two have a great father/son chemistry. Keep up the great work

Another awesome video. I love rainbow trout, they are my favorite trout to catch here in Newfoundland. Odd question I know but what kind of tea do you drink? I'm only asking because we have only been part of Canada since 1949 so prior to that nearly all of our confections came from either England or Ireland and most of those traditions live on today. Most of our ancestry comes from across the pond also. The three big tea brands here are tetley, pg tips and red rose. I was just curious to what you guys liked over there. Thanks and cheers till the next one.

Hi guys, I remember you mentioning the roof is noisy when it rains. There's a chap on youtube he uses pond reeds to build a yurt like debris shelter, it's all interwoven or intertwined, comes out like solid bamboo type of fort. Perhaps you can weave some pond reeds to cover your roof, it should insulate it as well I think. It's very economical like free & fun to make. Personally I'd love to see how pond reeds, or wood rushes can be used to build; since we don't have bamboo in my country. it's an idea, the chap's name is Fowler

No No No Do NOT show that fish being gutted on YouTubeI just don't get it. If I don't want to see something like that I wouldn't watch your videos but I do and I enjoy them and I give them all a thumbs up. I don't understand how they get away with the videos that are so vulgar with every other word being the F word and kids climbing cranes and radio towers and things that one mistake and its permanent but by golly don't you dare clean a fish on YouTubeThanks for your videos guys, they're real. So I'm gonna be on private property And so im just wondering what I can hunt or snare. Like anything I don't need a hunting liscense? Or what i do need a hunting liscense with? Im planning on fishing on a stream on the property but ill obviously need a bit more food source haha. Just trying to find out whats allowed. :)

Hi Guys, This Countries gone mad. No filming of gutting fish? Where the hell do these people think our youngsters are going to learn stuff and given it's about life's basics ie eating, for once i am lost for words. Love the truck Mike. Some Garlic Bread would be amazing in that oven. All my best as always to the 2 greatest Fishing You Tubers to be found anywhere on our shores. Roll on the warmer months eh Steve.

Brook Eel is wonderful. Catch them in minor water/sea outlets around 5 feet long. have lots of newspaper to hand as they are slimy as hell. Once caught make a fire and while the embers are burning down, score the skin around the back of the eels head, grip with pliers and peal skin back to tip. cut into 2 segment and fry in butter until flesh is cooked, a little bread roll and a can of cider. Perfect
