9 hours of 3D sound in the city of Chicago. Crowd noises and street sounds while taking a walk around Chicago's busy night life Downtown Cedar: my father had an apartment in chicago when i was younger
when i stayed at his apartment for the weekend, i couldnt sleep. the l trains, the sirens, the cars, all of it. ive lived in a small village my whole life, and this city was big and new and scary.
but when i got back home, i couldnt sleep. it was too quiet. too lonely. in chicago i was surrounded by people. above me, below me, to the sides of me, they were everywhere.
it was comforting. i didnt know the people near me, but i wasnt alone. it was nice knowing that there is someone out there looking over this beautiful city as well.

As a former homeless guy, when I moved into an apartment i found I couldn't sleep. The house was far far too quiet after i had spent 3 years sleeping on street corners. This video is what got me through the first 3 months before i got used to sleeping in a bedroom. It feels real, like im right on the corner tucked into a doorway. Even now, if I cant sleep I put this on and instantly nod off.

I was homeless for a few months in SF. I can relate even over 20 years later, I LIKE city sounds. I hated the cold though. You get very connected in a short period of time. Seeing sunrises and sunsets. Hearing people's conversations and birds/squirrels are the best. The longer you are homeless the more the quiet is unsettling. They should make a podcast of this kind of audio.

This is an extremely accurate video. The swearing, sirens and cold sound of cars on concrete reminded me of what I hated most about being homeless. It is a good incentive to get off the street and find work. So represents both good and bad. My heart goes out to the homeless. I wish them luck health and peace.

All the wheres the gun shots comments. We know youve never been here, but do you actually think theres gun fights where this is recorded? Clearly downtown, probably Mag Mile thats worth billions of dollars. Gangs dont hang there even if they wanted to.

wheres the gunshots mans said that he recorded this on michigan avenue, which has the magnificent mile. this is a super safe and wealthy area, youre not gonna hear gunshots, maybe sirens if youre lucky. listen closely and youll hear tourists.

This is good, you can hear distinct footsteps, distinct conversations, ebb and flow of traffic, honking, different vehicles.
Its AMBIENCE, not computer made noises looped to simulate an enviroment, its the sounds of life in motion.

Thank you for creating this resource! I am a teacher of the blind and visually impaired and need to teach one of my students right now how to recognize different sounds on the street. I believe your recording may help with this!

I'm going to cry because of how much I miss the city
And its kinda weird to thing about that the people are just the as guests and we will never hear the same people talk about the same things and at the same place

Hello. If you want to protect your ears from acoustic impact, I recommend that you use a piece of cotton. Put it in such a way that you have your hearing protected, but at the same time, that it lets you hear. Thank you.

After being under lockdown for almost two years and being too depressed and anxious to leave the house for anything other than for work, its nice hearing the sounds from my city again.

This is what I hear when me and my family travel from South Bend to Chicago to meet up with relatives. This feels like peace to me: the cars, the footsteps, everything.

i fell asleep to this last night. it was entertaining and comforting. had to lower the volume a lot due to some loud cars, but otherwise this is perfect
