The AIRPORT in 2 Countries at the SAME TIME! Bill: Having lived for many years in San Diego, I have to say that the CrossBorder Terminal is a godsend - and I never thought I would ever say that about an airport. I used to drive along the main road that runs along the border on the US side, and look across empty fields to the airport on the other side of the fence and wonder - why isn't there a way to access it from here? There are two main automobile border crossings into Tijuana, one to the east and one to the west of the airort. Neither of them provide easy access to the airport. The ability of San Diegans to fly in/out of TIjuana to other parts of Mexico and South America, saves time and money. Almost all flights departing from San Diego go north to Los Angeles and then south. And a friend can drop you off by car on the USA side, and not have to wait in line for two hours to cross back over the border from Mexico.

I live about 5 miles due west of Brown Field, and the amount of air traffic along the border is pretty crazy. US Marine Corp F-18's just flew overhead and we can generally see the flights going in & out of Tiajuana hugging the border, not to mention the occasional Navy plane flying into North Island on Coronado (directly across the bay from Lindbergh. Next time you're in San Diego & have an afternoon to kill, there are a couple of aviation monuments to check out.

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority conducted the study and initiation discussions with GAP which operates TIJ since SAN has limited capacity gate capacity to offer additional fights to Mexico. This led to the private development of the CBX which took presidential permits from both countries.

FedEx operates a daily flight each way between Tijuana and San Diego International because it's a lot faster than sending a truck through the customs line at the border. I think those are the shortest scheduled flights, at least to/from US destinations. It's a bit less than 20 miles.

Volaris is the worse airline in the world, I wouldn't get on one of their planes again if offered me a million dollars cash and free airline tickets on any airline in the world other that Volaris. If Bad was a Nickel Volaris would be worth $1 trillion and change.

Is there a reason you had to fly though Miami to Denver instead of direct from Mexico to LAX?
Industry people call those trips Priceline routes because they might be cheap but they'll send you across the country through three or four hubs with two different airlines.

I was born in Mexico City but I live in Tijuana since the year 2000 you should some time revisit and listen to the interesting history of that old 747 SP that can be read Global Peac embassadors aircraft stuck on Tijuanas airport since 2005

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road? A: To get to the other side.

Q: Why didn't Noel cross the road? A: b/c this video wouldn't have been as awesome!

I think Gibraltar is also another, but this airport lies entirely in Mexico, but it is just south of the border by like a couple of feet with a skybridge to a building in the southern part of california.

A lot of people who live here (San Diego) also will fly out of Tijuana when going to other international destinations because it's a lot cheaper as many times from SAN you have to fly out of LAX.

I have read in at least once instance a tunnel being discovered on the CA side that lead to the airport cargo area in MX, and until now I did not realize how close they were! Great video!

Im not sure what to say beyond that, but thank you for enlightening me to this little bit of arcana!

I wonder if you were to land Vaduz would you then be in Switzerland as well as Lichtenstein?
And if that were the case would the exact same apply to landing in San Marino and Italy?

Had to do something similar last September to go from Tijuana Beach to the US. It was such a dumb trip, but I got to try those Dreamliners in business class, so it wasn't the worst.

I been doing that trip for work many times, what i do is from tijuana to cabos with volaris and then alaska airlines to san diego, but hey yours looks fun too hahaha grat video.

It's better to fly out of TJ san Diego for being a region of 4million folks has a worthless tiny airport. Either for international flights you have to go to LA or TJ.
reply

if airlines need to avoid heading to american airspace then how does one fly from tijuana to chiacago does not make sense airplanes are for international airspace
reply

I live in LA, but most of the time I have to fly to Mexico I use the CBX to fly from Tijuana because flights are cheaper. This was a cool video.

California was once a part of Mexico. So he'll ya situations like these arose since western settlers forcefully captured Mexico from Mexico.
